Several television anchors from Media-Most's flagship T-V channel N-T-V demonstrated in front of Media-Most headquarters in Moscow on Friday.
They are protesting about what they consider to be unjustified pressure by the Russian General Prosecutor's office.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, has been accused by journalists of being at the heart of a media war brewing in Moscow between the embattled television station, its new owner and its staff.
Russian journalists were told on Thursday that Russia's natural gas giant Gazprom had become the controlling shareholder of N-T-V, the central T-V channel of media tycoon Vladimir Gusinsky's Media-Most empire.
General Director of Gazprom Media, Alfred Kokh, said he would immediately demand a shareholders meeting to determine N-T-V's new board of directors.
Gusinsky, Media-Most's chief, who has been charged with fraud, is under house arrest in southern Spain, and Russia has requested his extradition.
Head of N-T-V television Yevgeny Kiselyov claimed the channel's journalists do not accept Gazprom-Media's claim of control over his company.
The General Prosecutor's Office summoned Tatyana Mitkova, anchor for N-T-V's nightly news program, "Segodnya" (Today in Russian), for questioning on Friday morning.
Several on-camera journalists from Media-Most, Russia's largest private media company, have already been summoned in connection with the Prosecutor's case against the media holding company.
Creditors and prosecutors accuse Media-Most of overstating it's assets while securing loan guarantees from Gazprom.

"I think that the summons is a direct threat to the group of NTV journalists and an attempt to discredit me."

An American anchor working for state-owned television station Russia Today quit on air on Wednesday. Wahl said she faces several 'ethical and moral challenges' as a reporter for the Russian-funded TV network. 'I'm proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why, after this newscast, I'm resigning," she said. Liz Wahl, who was a Washington, D.C. correspondent for the state-owned television station, quit live on-air Wednesday because she does not agree with the network's backing of Russian President Vladimir Putin's military intervention in Ukraine's Crimea region. The self-described "Filipina-Hungarian-American" said she faces several "ethical and moral challenges" as a reporter for the network.
Wahl described herself as the daughter of a veteran who grew up in the United States. Her partner, she said, is a military-base physician "where he sees every day first hand accounts of the ultimate prices people pay for this country."
"And that is why personally, I cannot be part of a network funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of Putin," she said as she went off-script on live TV. "I'm proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why, after this newscast, I'm resigning."
During her minute-long statement, Wahl also mentioned the "international headlines" that Abby Martin, a host of the show, made Tuesday night when she said "Russian intervention in the Crimea is wrong."
Wahl tweeted about "my girl" Abby Martin for going "spectacularly off-message in Ukraine broadcast."
She also wrote about her grandparents who fled Hungary during revolution of 1956.
RT released a statement later Wednesday, writing that Wahl made "a big show of a personal decision" as part of "a self-promotional stunt."
"We wish Liz the best of luck on her chosen path," the network wrote.
Wahl described the TV stations inner workings during a segment with Anderson Cooper on CNN later Wednesday.
"RT is not about the truth," Wahl said. "It's about promoting a Putinist agenda. It's also about bashing America."

Russia is a country full of adventure, culture and vast distances. A continent, a multi-ethnic country and a vast land unites both Europe and Asia. Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe in which both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. The Kremlin is located on a forty metre high hill above the Moskva River and beyond its protective walls are numerous buildings, palaces, towers, squares and churches. The city’s history began with the construction of the Kremlin which lay at the very heart of the city and was for centuries Russia’s spiritual and political centre. A fascinating cruise travels across numerous rivers, canals and lakes within the heart of the former Tsar’s realm, past monasteries and timber built churches. In Uglič the Dimitrijvskaija Church is crowned with blue, onion-shaped domes that are adorned with stars. The red colour of the church is a symbol of bloodshed and the incidents that once occurred at this place of death gave rise to a time of confusion. St. Petersburg, known also as the Venice Of The North, contains splendid buildings such as the Winter Palace and the Eremitage. Twenty four thousand tree stumps were used for the foundation of Isaaks Cathedral that can accommodate a congregation of fourteen thousand. In Port Baikal is the modern Circum-Baikal train that takes a full day to travel around Lake Baikal and is one of the most difficult sections of the Trans-Siberian Railroad that travels from Moscow to as far as Vladivostok. Russia is huge and its nature, culture, immense contrast and dramatic history have formed the fascinating and colourful Russian soul.

Your trip to Moscow, Russia is bound to be a special one. From the multicolored spires of St. Basil’s Cathedral to the sturdy red walls of the Kremlin, there is much to see and do in this stunning city.
Named after the Moskva River—which flows through the city—Moscow has long been at the forefront of the creative world. Tour Moscow to follow in the footsteps of Tolstoy and Chekhov, among others, and join in the sense of pride Russia feels for its literary tradition. Moscow has named a number of its parks and open spaces after its poets and authors, so take a break at the fountain in Pushkin Square, or rest beneath the leafy trees in Gorky Park. When you’ve gotten your fill of literary splendor, head to the Memorial Museum of Cosmonauts, where you can learn about the Soviet Union’s efforts to reach the stars and the epic space race that lasted from 1955 to 1972.
Moscow is a city of creativity and innovation, but is also very much aware of its own history; as such, a haunting part of any Moscow sightseeing is a visit to the Fallen Monument Park. After the fall of the Soviet Union, countless statues and monuments were removed from their pedestals and moved to this park. Over the years, more modern artwork and sculptures have been added, turning the park into a strange, yet peaceful graveyard of former icons.

Take a tour of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
It looks more like a cluster of brightly colored hot air balloons than a cathedral.
This is St. Basil's, or the "Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin By the Moat".
This flamboyantly shaped and colored building is one of Russia's most important churches.
The cathedral was started in 1555 as eight chapels built around a larger ninth.
There have been several theories about the design of St. Basil's, but no certain answers.
The cathedral has had several additions, and the whole church narrowly escaped destruction under Stalin.
St. Basil's is no longer a church, it now operates as a museum.

Take a tour of Omsk Dormition Cathedral in Omsk, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
A striking feature of the city of Omsk, in southern Russia, is the grand and colorful Dormition Cathedral.
This structure boasts a gleaming white exterior and shiny blue and gold domes, typical of Russian architecture.
These features add to the majesty of the cathedral as both a place of worship and historical monument.
The original Dormition Cathedral was built in the late nineteenth century, designed in the Russian Revival Style.
However, when the Soviets came to power, they destroyed this and many other Russian churches as part of their Communist agenda.
Fortunately, the Omsk Dormition Cathedral was recently rebuilt, to forever regain its beauty and history.

Travel video about destination Moskva in Russia.
Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe. Both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. It has witnessed much change and has become a prosperous city and one of contrast and the superlative, of millionaires and also the very poor. Vasiliya Blazhennovo Khram, Basilius Cathedral, is one of the main landmarks of the Russian metropolis and was built at the command of Moscow sovereign, Ivan The Fourth, also known as Ivan The Terrible, Russia’s first Tsar. The cathedral is representative of Moscow’s architecture with red brick monuments and an accumulation of onion-shaped towers. The Kremlin extends beyond a red wall and various towers that date back to the fifteenth century. Since time immemorial it has been the seat of both tsars and bishops and in front of its walls is Red Square that was once used as a marketplace and also a place of execution. Here the death penalty was declared and immediately carried out. Arbatskaya is a city district west of the Kremlin. In the fifteenth century, the craftsmen and servants of the Tsar lived there and then followed artists, intellectuals and aristocrats. In 1935 the Metro was inaugurated and had thirteen stations. Today there are more than a hundred located along two hundred and sixty kilometres of rail, used by millions each and every day. The Moscow Underground is fast, cheap and quite splendid. Its stations are veritable works of art! When the Tsar’s empire vanished, the realm of the Communist rulers was torn apart. But the mega metropolis of Moscow managed to survive. A restless and powerful city of fantastic culture and truly dramatic history.

Audio Newspaper
On Monday night, Italian television channel Rete 4, property of Berlusconi's Mediaset group, broadcast in Italian language the documentary on Vladimir Putin by the title "The President", that was originally produced in 2014 by Russian television "TV Rossija1".
According to Russian news agency Tass, the show was followed by 639,000 Italian viewers with a percentage of approximately 8.85% on a national scale.
It is plausible to believe that the decision to broadcast "The President" was a consequence of the increasing sympathy and support of the Italian people towards Russia and president Putin because of his strong and active role in fighting Isis and other Islamic extremist groups linked to Wahhabi ideology and to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Italy is right in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, it is a "bridge" between Europe and north-Africa and it is right next to the Balkan area, which is a new hot spot for Wahhabi extremism. In addition, the presence of jihadists in Libya can only bring more concern for Rome.
So far NATO and US policies have only damaged the Italian economy, initially with the military intervention against Libya, which was one of Italy's best economic partners; an intervention which did not bring the so-called "democracy" in the north African country, but a civil war.
The forced sanctions on Russia did the rest, damaging an economy that was already at stake because of the recession. In fact, Italy and Russia had very strong commercial and touristic ties; sanctions brought a conspicuous loss of commissions for many industries in central and northern Italy.
As for the media reactions to the show on Vladimir Putin, while most mainstream ones were impartial, some were extremely critical and it is quite easy to figure out which ones and the reasons: all that needs to be done is search information about the owners and the financiers behind them. We will leave this task to those who are willing to conduct some investigations.
Newspaper "Il Fatto Quotidiano" published an article written by Leonardo Coen by the title "Russia, Mediaset bows to the Zar: Rete 4 boradcasts Putin's apotheosis. No journalism, only idolatry".
The Italian version of "Vice" went even further with an ironic article which basically accused Rete 4 of being a "branch of Kremlin's propaganda" and compared it to the north Korean television.
Now, we all know what runs behind Vice and we can recall an episode broadcast by Vice in March 2015 on jihad in Daghestan, where imprecise if not distorted informations were provided on the north-Caucasian country and on the Tsarnaev brothers. Italian online newspaper Intellettuale Dissidente uncovered such fact with an article published on March 28th 2015.
Russia and the "Block"
Italy, just like other European countries such as France, Slovakia and Greece, have many interests in common with Russia; interests linked to economic relations, tourism, security that naturally push towards a common vision for Middle East policies. Italian public opinion's consent for Moscow has increased in the last 12 months while views on the US administration's policies are at the lowest; these are all facts that the EU should carefully ponder on.
On December 9th Italy delayed an EU decision to extend economic sanctions against Russia, demanding a further discussion within the block. The surprising move came at a meeting of EU envoys in Brussels on Wednesday.
"We have asked for a discussion on the matter," said Tiziana d'Angelo, a spokeswoman for the Italian mission to the EU, Reuters reports.

Anti Russia rally outside television station, US ambassador comments on Obama meeting

Protesters opposed to a referendum on whether Ukraine's Crimean peninsula should split off and seek to become part of Russia, gathered on Monday outside the headquarters of Crimean Tatar television channel TV ATR.
ATR is considered one of the last standing pro-Ukraine channels on air in Crimea, where Russian forces have taken effective control, other channels having been blocked by Russian and Crimean authorities.
Monday's demonstration came as Russia's foreign ministry made a statement denouncing alleged lawlessness by far-right activists in eastern Ukraine and claiming that Ukraine is blocking Russian citizens from entering the country.
Ayder Muradosilov, Creative Producer with TV ATR, said the channel was still trying to report the latest events, but stressed the helplessness of journalists when confronted with "armed men".
The protest became heated as pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian demonstrators chanted slogans at each other.
One protester said that Ukrainians in the region were living in fear.
"When armed people have no insignia on their uniforms you can consider them terrorists. And the authorities are gangsters," said Victoria Stasiv.
Meanwhile in Kiev, US ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt stressed the view that there could be no military solution to the ongoing crisis in Crimea.
"This is a crisis that needs to be solved diplomatically," he told a news conference at the Ukraine Hotel, which has become the Ukraine Crisis Media Centre.
He said that the US would not recognise any outcome of what he called the "so-called referendum" due to take place on Sunday.
"We are committed to Crimea's status as a part of Ukraine," he added.
He said Wednesday's scheduled meeting between US President Barack Obama and the new Ukrainian Prime Minister, announced by the White House earlier in the day, would be an opportunity "for the US government to reaffirm our strong support to Ukraine, and to the Ukrainian people."
Obama's White House meeting with Arseniy Yatsenyuk will focus on options to peacefully resolve Russia's military intervention in the Ukrainian region of Crimea, the White House said, adding that the resolution must respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

STORYLINE:
On October 22nd 2013 the investigation into a suicide bombing on a bus in the Russian city of Volgograd continued.
The Investigative Committee of Russia began combing the scene in search of clues into Monday's attack, carried out - officials said - by a female suicide bomber who blew herself up on a city bus killing six people and injuring another 30.
Residents also came to pay their respects and lay flowers in memory of those who died.
"It is very frightening. It is frightening for kids and for ourselves. It is very troublesome, terrible," said Volograd resident Tatyana Tuntsyeva.
The Investigative Committee said the suspected bomber was from Dagestan, one of the predominately Muslim republics in the North Caucasus. It identified the suspect as 30-year-old Naida Asiyalova.
A local official said the suspected attacker was married to an Islamic militant.
The attack in Volgograd added to security fears ahead of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Volgograd lies 650 kilometres (400 miles) to the northeast of the North Caucasus, while Sochi sits to the west along the Black Sea.
***
At least 14 people were killed on December 29th and scores were wounded by a female suicide bomber at a railway station in southern Russia, officials said.
A spokesman for the nation's top investigative agency said the suicide bomber detonated her explosives in front of a metal detector at Volgograd station.
Images caught by a security camera facing the station showed the moment of explosion: a bright orange flash inside the station behind the main gate followed by plumes of smoke.
The spokesman put the death toll at 14, while Volgograd's regional governor said 15 died.
The Interior Ministry said that at least one police officer died in the attack and three others were wounded.
Russia's Health Ministry said about 50 people were injured.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack in Volgograd, but it came several months after Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov called for new hits on civilian targets in Russia, including the February Olympics in Sochi.
Volgograd, 900 kilometres (550 miles) south of Moscow, lies about 650 kilometres (403 miles) northeast of Sochi, a Black Sea resort flanked by the North Caucasus Mountains.
Suicide bombings and other attacks linked to Islamic rebels roaming the North Caucasus have rocked Russia for years.
In October, a female suicide bomber blew herself up on a city bus in Volgograd, killing six people and injuring about 30.

Russian/Nat
Firefighters put out the blaze at Moscow's giant television tower on Monday, after more than a day of battling thick smoke and intense heat hundreds of metres (feet) above ground.
The fire that gutted the landmark tower was brought under control at 1340 GMT, 26 hours after it broke out, Russians news agencies cited Moscow fire department chief Leonid Korotchik as saying.
The bodies of a high-ranking firefighter and an elevator operator were found in an elevator shaft, said Viktor Beltsov, a spokesman for the Moscow Emergency Situations Ministry.
Itar-Tass said the bodies were Vladimir Artyukov, deputy head of the fire department of Moscow's Northeastern district, and Svetlana Loseva, TV tower lift operator.
They were two of at least three people believed to have been trapped in an elevator that became stuck high up in the tower in the fire's early phase.
The fire knocked out most television services in Europe's largest city and concern was rising that some parts of the tower could fall, particularly the upper reaches of its thin spire.
Bundles of steel support cables running up the middle of the tower were damaged in the blaze.
On Monday, at a news conference, Media Minister Mikhail Lesin said the fire had caused huge economic damage.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
"It is a great damage not only for advertisement and mass media markets, but also for the whole market of means of connection and for the private companies that deal with paging and phone services. I think that for the advertisement market the damage is close to the one from the 1998 default, even though it is hard to compare these two events."
SUPER CAPTION: Mikhail Lesin, Media Minister
Furthermore, he said that he was worried that the independent N-T-V channel was taking control of all broadcasting, since it was the only company that was able to have its news on air.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
"Of course, it worries me that NTV is now at an advantage because nobody knows how it will be used. Today, I have watched a lot of NTV news and they are not being objective. I think that NTV news are now using the situation to their advantage and causing panic."
SUPER CAPTION: Mikhail Lesin, Media Minister
Muscovites are in shock, since their favourite information source is not working.
The majority of people in Moscow rely on the television to find out what is going on in the country and worldwide.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
"We find out a lot of information from TV. We also get information through newspapers, but we prefer TV. We are very used to TV. Yesterday, when broadcast went off the air, we felt like we were homeless. It is very bad to be without TV."
SUPER CAPTION: Zinaida Mironova, Muscovite
President Vladimir Putin said the fire in the giant structure highlighted the sad state of the Russian economy.

All major television stations in the Russian capital were knocked off the air Sunday by a fire at the massive Ostankino broadcasting tower.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The blaze forced the evacuation of visitors to the observation platform and restaurant that perch about two-thirds the way up the 1,771-foot tower, the world's second-tallest freestanding structure.
The fire broke out about 3.30pm local time about 320 feet above the restaurant and platform, and Russian news agencies reported that the evacuation was completed about 90 minutes later.
However, the fire was still burning some five hours after it started and had spread down toward the observation level as well as higher up the spire.
The fire initially knocked off three television channels, including the main independent station NTV.
But the tower's fire-extinguishing system was unable to put out the fire and it spread, knocking out both state-run RTR and the ORT channel, in which the state owns a majority share.
Heads of all TV stations gather for a meeting to discuss the future of broadcasting for Moscow and Moscow region.
It will take at least three weeks to repair the tower and to restore transmission of all the channels.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
"As of now, the damage is great, 30 meters of cables are burnt. It looks like it will take three weeks to repair. It is hard to say what will happen, since the fire is still taking place. I just have to hope for the best."

In this special edition of The Newshour with Russia Today, TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, Peter Lavelle, Host at Russia Today, and other panelists -- Rockey Anderson, American Politician & Attorney; Peter Kuznick, Director, Nuclear Studies Insitute at American University; Vadim Kozyulin, Senior Researcher, PIR Center; Roman Kosarev, Presenter, RT TV; -- give a perspective on the issue of the Islamic State (ISIS), of how Russia President Vladimir Putin is looking at the Islamic State, and of the long term consequences of Russia's greater involvement in the Middle East.
The conflict in the Middle East over the IS is getting more and more global attention. But so far, most of the conversation has been from the western perspective - what America thinks on what is happening in Syria.

Mega Disasters - Russia's Nuclear Sub Nightmare Kursk
Seconds from Disaster is an American documentary television series that first began broadcasting in 2004 on the National Geographic Channel. The program investigates historically relevant man-made and natural disasters. Each episode aims to explain a single incident[1] by analyzing the causes and circumstances that ultimately affected the disaster. The series uses re-enactments, interviews, testimonies, and CGI to analyze the sequence of events second-by-second for the audience.
Seconds from Disaster was broadcast on the National Geographic Channel and originally consisted of 45 episodes over three seasons. Following its original conclusion in 2007, the series was put in hiatus and was replaced with Critical Situation. In 2011, National Geographic revived the series, announcing it would air a new season from September 5, 2011. It began with an episode about the September 11 attacks.

Russia says revelations by a Turkish lawmaker about the transfer of deadly sarin gas to terrorists in Syria must be probed.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, the joint investigation currently underway by the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons should not ignore the latest disclosure. Earlier this month, Eren Erdem, who is a member of Turkey’s opposition Republican People's Party, claimed that the ISIL terrorists received all the necessary materials to produce sarin gas via Turkey. He also talked about a possible cover-up in the case. Erdem was later accused of treason by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Sarin, classified by the UN as a weapon of mass destruction, has been used in a number of attacks in Syria. A video released in 2012 showed the terrorists testing a chemical substance on lab rabbits and threatening to kill pro-government Syrians with it.

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has hit northern Afghanistan and Pakistan. There are no reports of casualties or damage, but communication can be slow in the mountainous region where the quake was centred.
Strong shockes were felt in the Afghan capital Kabul just after 11pm local time and in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, where authorities declared a red alert.
Obama Criticizes Cable News's ISIS Fixation
Recently President Obama criticized the networks for covering terrorism too much. This is partly true. They do cover Islamic terrorists wall-to-wall. Cenk Uygur, host of the The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"In an interview with NPR this week, President Obama complained that the media is oversaturated with coverage of terrorism. “If you’ve been watching television for the last month, all you have been seeing, all you have been hearing about is these guys with masks or black flags who are potentially coming to get you,” Obama said...
For example, a search of CNN coverage between November 21 and December 21 of this year yielded 427 hits (instances where an individual show mentioned the word at least once) for the search phrase “terrorism” and 404 hits for “ISIS”; the same search for “poverty” yielded only 34 hits. Here are the terrorism search strings compared to the other topics in chart form (note that the anti-privacy CISA legislation, directly related to terrorism, was not mentioned at all
Actually, the hippies still hold a special place in this U.S. "bogeyman" equation. During the red scare of the 50's and 60's when all that commie baiting nonsense was going on, the hippies also ended up being effectively marginalized and despised by the same propaganda agents who were out there branding people with communist leanings as necessarily godless, dangerous fruitcakes. Similar propaganda efforts have also likely helped shape the mainstream public's attitudes towards hippies and counterculture folks more generally. For example, we are all probably aware of the very common implicit association between 'lazy bums' and hippies. It is interesting to see how people can take the hate they hold towards one or more different race or ethnic group only to transfer it onto people within their own in-group whom they happen to disagree with on certain lifestyle choices and/or behaviors. If you dig deep enough below the American racist psyche you might find that people tend to associate certain behaviors and attitudes with the race they despise. The reality is though, that we would be better off as a nation now if more kids decided to adopt hippy values and standards. That sure beats the garbage they're hearing from our toxic pop culture. Ok, rant over

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1990, the US became the world's superpower. The US, then tried to contain its future rivals, that is Russia and China. With this aim, the US proposed the project of "the greater middle-east". The US occupation of Afghanistan, Iraq and its presence in the middle-east was not for fighting terrorism or establishing democracy but for controlling the the region as the main source of energy. This way, the US wanted to control the world and its rivals in particular. In recent decades, Russia and China have become more and more powerful in the international arena politically, economically and militarily. Now they veto the US just to show that the country is no longer the superpower. And the US knows well that with China and Russia, it will not be able to execute its plan to control the world as easily as it could three decades ago.

He was Canadian minister of Defense in 1960s, ruling over the country's armed forces during the time of the Cold War -- and when he retired he publicly stated that we are not alone in the universe, and some guests from outer space actually live here, on planet Earth. Is this fantasy? Is someone actually watching us? Today we ask the man who says UFOs are a serious business -- Paul Hellyer.
