The exhibition In Search of 0,10 – The Last Futurist Exhibition of Painting at Fondation Beyeler celebrates the centenary of the legendary group show The Last Futurist Exhibition of Painting 0,10 (Zero-Ten) that took place in Petrograd (today St. Petersburg) in Russia. It’s the result of many years of research an reunites most of the surviving works of the legendary group show, complemented by others dating from the same period. 0,10 is considered as one of the most influential exhibitions in the history of modern art. It was here that Kasimir Malevich first presented his Black Square, an icon of abstract art. In the same exhibition, Vladimir Tatlin installed his revolutionary Corner Counter-Relief for the first time. 14 artists – seven men and seven women – participated in the show: Natan Altman, Xenia Boguslawskaja, Wassili Kamenski, Anna Kirillowa, Iwan Kljun, Kasimir Malewitsch, Michail Menkow, Vera Pestel, Ljubow Popowa, Iwan Puni, Olga Rosanowa, Wladimir Tatlin, Nadeschda Udalzowa, and Marie Vassilieff. The critical reconstruction of the historical exhibition includes loans from the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, 17 other Russian Museums, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, and MoMA in New York.
In Search of 0,10 – The Last Futurist Exhibition of Painting (Auf der Suche nach 0,10 - Die letzte futuristische Ausstellung der Malerei) at Fondation Beyeler, Riehen (Switzerland). Preview, October 3, 2015.

100 years after Kazimir Malevich painted Black Square (1915), Jacob Kirkegaard brings the square to life with sound. Untitled (Black Metal Square) is a freely hanging black metal plate whose natural vibrations are amplified and circulated back into themselves to generate resonances. Centuries of artists have tried to express the nothing through blackness. Untitled (Black Metal Square) evokes Malevich's famous quote “It is from zero, in zero, that the true movement of being begins." Robert Fludd also attempted to express this feeling in his 1617 drawing of a black square. In his work the edges are inscribed with the phrase "et sic in Infinitum" (and like this to infinity) and function like gates that frame a passage to emptiness. To enter the blackness is to experience the potency of a primordial universe before creation. Kirkegaard poses the question, "and once we enter, what do we hear?"

Anna Neimark and Andrew Atwood of First Office explore new ways of thinking about architectural production while still being “honest or forthright about ... our sources and references,” among them twentieth-century artists like Marcel Duchamp, Kazimir Malevich, and Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.
Their Authenticity installation is composed of three tabletop models: a ready-made double-door, from plans by Duchamp; a one-room house; and a film screening room in Los Angeles. Each representation doubles as a miniature of a built or under-construction First Office project and an examination of the architectural model as an art object. Of particular interest is the model as a scaled reality, with details that “are both ornamental and formal,” down to the tiny outlet covers in the one-room house. Accompanying each model is a video that shows how, “if you could touch the model, … you would move around it.”

A discussion between multiple award-winning architect Zaha Hadid and Achim Borchardt-Hume, Head of Exhibitions at Tate Modern and curator of Malevich exhibition.
Considering Hadid’s concept of architecture and its relationship to space and the city, this conversation reflects on Malevich’s Architektons, as well as other works of Suprematism, as formative inspiration for her own practice.
The volumetric compositions of Suprematism such as Architektons were utilised to create new possibilities for interior space, while Malevich experimented with these constructions as means for social transformation through radical architectural form. The novelty, purity and originality of these works fostered a new psychology of perception in both art and architecture.
The link between Zaha Hadid and Suprematism has spanned her entire career, beginning with her 1976-77 graduation thesis for the Architectural Association, Malevich’s Tecktonik, which takes a visually deconstructed influence from Malevich and uses it as the starting point for a fourteen-level London hotel concept design. Following this interest, in 1993 Zaha Hadid was asked by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York to create an exhibition design for their encyclopaedic show of the Russian Avant-Garde, The Great Utopia. Hadid continues to demonstrate her relationship to Suprematism, recently designing and curating an exhibition at Galerie Gmurzynska Zurich that juxtaposed her own work with early twentieth-century Russian art pieces.
