Russian political party, A Just Russia, refused on Tuesday to support former president Dmitry Medvedev's candidacy as Russia's prime minister.
His candidacy was put forward by Vladimir Putin, who was sworn in as the Russian President on Monday for the third time after serving a term as prime minister
The leader of A Just Russia, Sergei Mironov, said his party does not agree with Medvedev's views on social security and therefore cannot endorse his candidacy as prime minister.
Putin's inauguration was preceded by clashes between opposition and riot police and was followed by detentions of hundreds of opposition activists.
Scores were detained on Tuesday morning for no apparent reason as a group of people who gathered at one of Moscow's squares was dispersed by riot police.
The group of people, who gathered together by using social networks, were playing badminton, playing guitars and sunning themselves next to one of Moscow's monuments, when riot police arrived and detained dozens of people.
Gennady Gudkov, a member of parliament for the A Just Russia Party, and a former KGB officer, alleged that the actions of the police were worse than during the totalitarian Soviet age.
"On what grounds were the people detained who were sitting on a monument with guitars? Please explain to me. Who cares if there were some sort of undertones?" he asked.
Gudkov then said during the Soviet era a joke was often told that people were detained "because of smiling in an anti-Soviet manner".
"Now we are beginning to turn this joke into life, we are getting it worse than in the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) during the times of the totalitarian regime," he added.
Hundreds of activists tried to protest near Red Square and along the route Putin's motorcade took to the Kremlin, but they were turned back or detained by thousands of riot police.
Police said they made about 300 detentions on Monday, but in some cases the same people were detained and then released more than once.

How to buy a Russian SIM Card, if you're a foreigner?
You need just one document like passport, international passport or driver's license.
You no need to have an official temporary or permanent registration on a territory of Russia. It's enough just to specify the address of where you stay in Russia - an address of the hotel, or apartment you rent, or wherever you live.
By the words of the manager of Megafon, one of three top leaders of mobile operators of Russia, the most reasonable plan for foreigners is a pre-pard plan "All Inclusive S" for less than $3.00
"All Inclusive S" offer 350 minutes of outcoming calls to any phone number on a terrotory of the Republic Of Bashkortostan or the region where you stay.
100 SMS-messages to the mobile numbers of the Republic of Bashkortostan or other region of Russia where you will stay.
3GB of high-speed 3G, 4G or 4G LTE internet.
This is an ideal plan to use at least as a second sim card.
In order to use it as the main and only sim-card during your vacation you may turn on an additional option "Call To All Countries" for less than $2.00 and call way cheaper all over the World.
In every office of Megafon you can pay as by cash in Russian roubles, as by Visa/MasterCard in any currency.
In the city of Ufa, the capital of the Republic of Bashkortostan is about 44 branches of Megafon, one of top three leaders of mobile operators in Russia.

Travel video about destination Russia.
Russia is a country full of adventure, culture and vast distances. A continent, a multi-ethnic country and a vast land unites both Europe and Asia. Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe in which both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. The Kremlin is located on a forty metre high hill above the Moskva River and beyond its protective walls are numerous buildings, palaces, towers, squares and churches. The city’s history began with the construction of the Kremlin which lay at the very heart of the city and was for centuries Russia’s spiritual and political centre. A fascinating cruise travels across numerous rivers, canals and lakes within the heart of the former Tsar’s realm, past monasteries and timber built churches. In Uglič the Dimitrijvskaija Church is crowned with blue, onion-shaped domes that are adorned with stars. The red colour of the church is a symbol of bloodshed and the incidents that once occurred at this place of death gave rise to a time of confusion. St. Petersburg, known also as the Venice Of The North, contains splendid buildings such as the Winter Palace and the Eremitage. Twenty four thousand tree stumps were used for the foundation of Isaaks Cathedral that can accommodate a congregation of fourteen thousand. In Port Baikal is the modern Circum-Baikal train that takes a full day to travel around Lake Baikal and is one of the most difficult sections of the Trans-Siberian Railroad that travels from Moscow to as far as Vladivostok. Russia is huge and its nature, culture, immense contrast and dramatic history have formed the fascinating and colourful Russian soul.

St. Petersburg is often described as the most Westernized city of Russia, as well as its cultural capital. It is the northernmost city in the world to have a population of over one million. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The most important places to visit in St. Petersburg are: Church of the Savior on Blood (one of the greatest landmarks of St. Petersburg, its striking facade leaves a memorable impression on visitors that come from around the world), St. Isaac's Cathedral (one of Russia's largest churches. Constructed in the 19th century, a French-born architect created this remarkable structure), Peterhof Palace (Peter the Great built this incredibly luxurious imperial palace. Situated by the gulf of Finland, it was built in the early 18th century), Hermitage and many more.

Your trip to Moscow, Russia is bound to be a special one. From the multicolored spires of St. Basil’s Cathedral to the sturdy red walls of the Kremlin, there is much to see and do in this stunning city.
Named after the Moskva River—which flows through the city—Moscow has long been at the forefront of the creative world. Tour Moscow to follow in the footsteps of Tolstoy and Chekhov, among others, and join in the sense of pride Russia feels for its literary tradition. Moscow has named a number of its parks and open spaces after its poets and authors, so take a break at the fountain in Pushkin Square, or rest beneath the leafy trees in Gorky Park. When you’ve gotten your fill of literary splendor, head to the Memorial Museum of Cosmonauts, where you can learn about the Soviet Union’s efforts to reach the stars and the epic space race that lasted from 1955 to 1972.
Moscow is a city of creativity and innovation, but is also very much aware of its own history; as such, a haunting part of any Moscow sightseeing is a visit to the Fallen Monument Park. After the fall of the Soviet Union, countless statues and monuments were removed from their pedestals and moved to this park. Over the years, more modern artwork and sculptures have been added, turning the park into a strange, yet peaceful graveyard of former icons.

St Petersburg lies around 400 miles to the Northwest of Moscow. Nestled on the Neva River, it spreads out from its banks and across a series of islands that lie within the river delta.
With a wealth of extravagant palaces, breathtaking cathedrals and magnificent gardens, St Petersburg is truly Russia’s Imperial city.
Carved out of swampland in the early 18th century by Csar Peter the Great, St Petersberg has been gilded by generations of Russian royalty.
Over the centuries, this dynasty sought to create a city to rival the greatest cities of Europe, and, as you step onto the cobblestone streets here, you’ll discover they succeeded.
Most visitors start their adventures right in the heart of historic St Petersburg. Palace Square is dominated by the Alexander Column and is home to the Winter Palace.
This monumental palace is a legacy of Catherine the Great and was designed to reflect the might and power of Imperial Russia. Today it houses the State Hermitage Museum which is one of the world’s oldest and largest museums.
Experience some of the country’s most extravagant architecture by strolling along Nevsky Prospect, the city’s main avenue.
Visit the Church of the Saviour on the Spilled Blood, with its extraordinary mosaics,… and Kazan Cathedral, another architectural gem.
Further along the river is St Isaac’s cathedral, whose gold plated dome has been glittering under Russia’s sun for more than 100 years.
As the sun sets, take a canal cruise to discover the romance of St Petersburg at night. Pass through a network of draw-bridges on a journey that shows the true scale of Peter the Great’s vision.
Romantic, opulent and spectacular, St Petersburg is a glittering testiment to Russia’s royal history and a celebration of the power of one man’s dream.

Travel video about destination Moskva in Russia.
Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe. Both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. It has witnessed much change and has become a prosperous city and one of contrast and the superlative, of millionaires and also the very poor. Vasiliya Blazhennovo Khram, Basilius Cathedral, is one of the main landmarks of the Russian metropolis and was built at the command of Moscow sovereign, Ivan The Fourth, also known as Ivan The Terrible, Russia’s first Tsar. The cathedral is representative of Moscow’s architecture with red brick monuments and an accumulation of onion-shaped towers. The Kremlin extends beyond a red wall and various towers that date back to the fifteenth century. Since time immemorial it has been the seat of both tsars and bishops and in front of its walls is Red Square that was once used as a marketplace and also a place of execution. Here the death penalty was declared and immediately carried out. Arbatskaya is a city district west of the Kremlin. In the fifteenth century, the craftsmen and servants of the Tsar lived there and then followed artists, intellectuals and aristocrats. In 1935 the Metro was inaugurated and had thirteen stations. Today there are more than a hundred located along two hundred and sixty kilometres of rail, used by millions each and every day. The Moscow Underground is fast, cheap and quite splendid. Its stations are veritable works of art! When the Tsar’s empire vanished, the realm of the Communist rulers was torn apart. But the mega metropolis of Moscow managed to survive. A restless and powerful city of fantastic culture and truly dramatic history.

Take a tour of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
It looks more like a cluster of brightly colored hot air balloons than a cathedral.
This is St. Basil's, or the "Cathedral of the Intercession of the Virgin By the Moat".
This flamboyantly shaped and colored building is one of Russia's most important churches.
The cathedral was started in 1555 as eight chapels built around a larger ninth.
There have been several theories about the design of St. Basil's, but no certain answers.
The cathedral has had several additions, and the whole church narrowly escaped destruction under Stalin.
St. Basil's is no longer a church, it now operates as a museum.

Take a tour of Qolsharif Mosque in Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Qolsharif Mosque in Russia, though undoubtedly modern, has deep historical ties to the past.
The current building, found in Kazan Kremlin, was started in 1996 and inaugurated in 2005.
However, the mosque was rebuilt after an ancient mosque of the same name from the 1500s.
This mosque was supposedly the biggest in Russia at the time of its construction.
Its appearance is uncertain because it was destroyed in 1552 by Ivan the Terrible.
The new Qolsharif Mosque attempts to mirror the old, and, in doing so, has created a beautiful building.

Take a tour of Omsk Dormition Cathedral in Omsk, Russia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
A striking feature of the city of Omsk, in southern Russia, is the grand and colorful Dormition Cathedral.
This structure boasts a gleaming white exterior and shiny blue and gold domes, typical of Russian architecture.
These features add to the majesty of the cathedral as both a place of worship and historical monument.
The original Dormition Cathedral was built in the late nineteenth century, designed in the Russian Revival Style.
However, when the Soviets came to power, they destroyed this and many other Russian churches as part of their Communist agenda.
Fortunately, the Omsk Dormition Cathedral was recently rebuilt, to forever regain its beauty and history.

Located on the Solovetsky Islands, a small archipelago in Solovki, Russia, is the Solovetsky Monastery.
The site was founded by two monks in the 1400s and after a generous land donation the monastery was substantially expanded.
The secluded location of the islands was a perfect stronghold throughout the Livonian, Crimian and Russian Civil Wars.
The surrounding walls are four to six meters in thickness and encompass the village where the monastery is located.
A source of great pride for the monks inhabiting the monastery were the expansive manicured grounds and gardens.
Solovetsky Monastery and village now cover all the Solovetsky Islands and are open for visitors and pilgrims.

Munk Debates - The West vs. Russia
How should the West deal with Putin’s Russia? For the U.S. and some European powers the answer is obvious: isolate Russia with punishing economic sanctions, remove it from global institutions such as the G8, and arm the nations directly threatened by Putin. In short, return to the Cold War doctrine that froze Soviet aggression in Europe and helped bring about the collapse of communist Russia. Othe

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dempsey, reveals in a candid interview how the scope of the Military has changed, and how the United States plans to handle several challenging issues over the next year as troops are set to dwindle by 2016. Included in this interview from July, 2014 (Aspen Security Conference):
1. ISIS / ISIL
2. Iraq
3. Iran
4. Syria
5. Russia: Putin "started a fire he may lose control of"
6. Troop Overall Readiness
7. Is the US Military a "deterrent" any longer?
8. China / Pacific Region
9. POSSIBLE DRAFT REINSTATEMENT!
This is another must-see video, however, I have some concerns regarding the candidness of the responses; most should be easily verifiable via recent Congressional hearings.

A very one sided documentary, but nevertheless an interesting watch...
"Russia is the largest country on earth and home to nearly 150 million people. Vladimir Putin is well into his third term as president and, with the West imposing tough sanctions, relations are now the frostiest since the Cold War.
Reggie Yates gets up close and personal with three very different communities in contemporary Russia. By living with them for a week, he explores what it's like for young people living here, 24 years after the fall of the Soviet Union.
In the first of three programmes revealing the extreme side of Russia, Reggie travels to Moscow to meet some of the country's most dangerous people - the nationalists. With Putin flexing his muscles and squaring up to the West, Reggie arrives in the Russian capital only days before a march in which thousands of ultra-nationalists take to the streets in a show of strength and unity. Reggie immerses himself into a world where patriotism and loving your country is becoming the norm, one with very dangerous consequences.
He trains with knife-wielding far-right nationalists, talks to the young artists who idolise Putin, and confronts teenage neo-Nazis who believe that if you're not white then you have no place in Russia. Reggie also meets the non-Russians who live in fear of persecution and hears horrific stories of those who have survived vicious racist attacks.
And with the rise of the far right not just in Russia but across many other Western countries, including the UK, Reggie asks if this is what can happen when you love your country too much."

For the past four and a half years, the Syrian people have experienced violence and some of the most horrific war crimes of our times in a conflict that began with anti-government protests before spiralling into a multi-front war.
Almost a quarter of a million people have been killed in Syria's conflict since it broke out in March 2011, and millions of Syrians are leaving the country to escape the ongoing fighting.
Last week, Russia started bombing various armed groups threatening Syrian government forces, and by doing so it may have bought the regime some valuable time.
But no matter how difficult it is to imagine a future in Syria, various opposition groups are working and fighting for a post-Assad era. One of them is the Syrian National Coalition, which represents a broad spectrum of people, it says, both on and off the battleground.
Khaled Khoja, the president of the Syrian National Coalition, talks to Al Jazeera about the Russian involvement in Syria which he says came just as the Syrian government was about to collapse.

BBC - Putin, Russia and the West (2012) - Documentary Films
Vladimir Putin, after eight years as president of Russia and four more as prime minister, is stubbornly holding onto power. He has announced his intention to return as president and declared his party the winner in parliamentary elections that are widely seen as fraudulent. In Moscow 100,000 protesters have taken to the streets in the largest demonstrations since Putin took office.
Putin began his career as a KGB spy but when he became president, he made himself a valued ally of the West. How did he do it? And what made Washington and London turn against him?
This four-part series is made by Norma Percy and the team at Brook Lapping with a track record for getting behind closed doors with multi-award-winning series like The Death of Yugoslavia, The Second Russian Revolution, and Iran and the West. For the first time Putin's top colleagues - and the Western statesmen who eventually clashed with him - tell the inside story of one of the world's most powerful men.
Part 3: War
The third episode tells how, in August 2008, Russia went to war with America's ally, Georgia. Russia's president Dmitry Medvedev and Georgia's president Mikheil Saakashvili reveal why each decided it was necessary to make war on the other.
Former American secretary of state Condoleezza Rice and former secretary of defense Robert Gates describe what happened inside the National Security Council as President Bush considered whether to send in ground troops to save Georgia's capital. They reveal just how near to war the conflict brought the two nuclear super-powers.

Stunning Revelations and a Major Game Changer!
The world’s largest submarine, the Dmitri Donskoy (TK-208), Nato-coded Typhoon, has set sail for the Mediterranean and is destined for the Syrian coast. Aboard the sub are 20 Bulava (NATO-code SS-N-30) intercontinental ballistic missiles with an estimated up to 200 nuclear warheads. Each missile, with a reported range of 10,000km, carries 6-10 MIRV nuclear warheads.
Moscow report that the dispatch of a nuclear sub to Syrian waters is taken as a strong message that the Kremlin will not let the US impede its military intervention in the Syrian conflict and will go to extreme lengths to keep the way open for the flow of Russian troops to the war-torn country.

Russia has added a volatile new dimension to Syria's four-year civil war after unleashing a wave of air strikes across the country.
Moscow has sent hundreds of troops, fighter jets, helicopter gunships, tanks, heavy artillery and other equipment, in response to a "request" by President Bashar al-Assad.
Assad's regime has been teetering on the brink after a string of heavy losses to rebels and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), and the arrival of Russian troops is an attempt to stem the tide.
President Vladimir Putin has allocated $60bn from a secret fund to accelerate the military buildup despite the country's struggling economy.
Sanctions imposed by the West on Russia since March 2014, over its alleged support of pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine, have cost the country some $40bn.
Since then, its currency, the rouble, has slumped, oil prices have tumbled and billions of dollars worth of assets have left the country.
So how is Russia able to finance its war in Syria?
Igor Sutyagin, a Senior Research Fellow at RUSI, the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies, joins Counting the Cost to discuss the money trail.
Denmark slashes benefits for asylum seekers
Denmark's rightwing government has slashed benefits for asylum seekers as it seeks to bring down the number of refugees entering the country.
Under a new set of rules, asylum seekers without children will receive less than $900 a month in benefits, almost half the $1700 they previously received.
This comes just weeks after Denmark placed advertisements in four Lebanese newspapers announcing tighter regulations and cuts by up to 50 percent for newly arriving refugees.
So far, more than 350,000 Syrians have lodged asylum claims in Europe, and Denmark expects around 20,000 to arrive at its doors this year.
The prospect of a better life in Europe has driven many to make the treacherous journey to Europe amid a conflict which has killed around 250,000 people.
Marcus Knuth, Denmark's spokesman on Integration and Immigration for the ruling Liberal Party, joins the programme to explain why his government has taken such a tough measure.

Others argue that such a policy is a dead-end. Putin’s Russia has legitimate grievances against Western and NATO powers meddling in its sphere of influence. Instead of further antagonizing Putin and risking a dangerous escalation of the current conflict, the U.S. and Europe should seek common cause with Russia to address shared threats, from the Middle East to Asia to combatting terrorism.

Russia, China, the US, and the seeds of World War III are explored--from oil and energy, to economic sanctions and the hidden threat of Monsanto crops. Putin’s role as a foil to the West, the failures of neocons, consequences of the Iraq war and US intervention in Libya and Syria, plus the western backing of ISIS, is detailed with William Engdahl. How is China emerging in the struggle for resources of Africa and the Middle East? Are international conflicts proxy wars of the larger struggle between the US and Russia? Explore the geopolitical and expanded military landscape that extends from oil fields to agricultural ones in this uncensored Buzzsaw interview, hosted by Sean Stone.
