There’s not much agriculture in the Faroe Islands, an archipelago in the North Atlantic, roughly equidistant from Norway, Iceland, and Scotland. A camera captured the moment a sperm whale carcass, which washed up in the Faroe Islands, exploded. The clip, which was shown of Faroese Television, has since gone viral, racking up millions of hits on YouTube alone. The dead whale had been lying on the beach for two days, after getting stuck in the waters between two islands, when marine biologist Bjarni Mikkelsen was sent to cut it open. As he made incisions in the whale's side the carcass exploded due to a build up of methane gas from the decomposition creating a loud sound and releasing a pungent smell. It is reported that a local museum will

Eurovision 2016: The Faroe Islands to participate in the song contest? | wiwibloggs
The Faroe Islands — yes, the ones that are part of Denmark — want to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. Bjørn Kalsø, the Minister of Education, has revealed that the islands applied for membership to the EBU back in 2010, which would have paved the way for participation. They were rejected, but interest remains. Here we look at some of the artists who could represent them. Eivør, Anna Katrin Egilstrøð, Lena, Høgni Reistrup, Høgni Lisberg, HEIÐRIK, Guðrið Hansdóttir, Brandur Enni, Byrta, Linda Andrews — they have a lot of artists!

The Grind: Whaling in the Faroe Islands (Full Length)
There’s not much agriculture in the Faroe Islands, an archipelago in the North Atlantic, roughly equidistant from Norway, Iceland, and Scotland. Aside from the sheep that freely roam the fjords and a few root vegetables, the Faroese have always relied on the surrounding sea as a source of fish, seabirds, and the pilot whales they slaughter in a hunt known as the grindadráp, or grind.
"Grind,” which rhymes with wind, is Faroese for pilot whale, and can refer to the event of the whale slaughter, the whale meat, or the whales themselves. Hunting whales for food is a tradition as old as the islands have been inhabited. But in the past few decades, animal activists have taken issue with the grind, despite Faroese insistence that it is sustainable and humane.
Motherboard visited the Faroe Islands to see a grind first hand as the Faroese defend their way of life against pressure from a visiting Sea Shepherd operation. Read more here: http://motherboard.vice.com/read/the-fight-for-whale-hunting-in-the-faroe-islands-inside-the-grind

Red Waters: Faroe Islands Whale Slaughter (RT Documentary)
The Faroe Islands, in the harsh north Atlantic, between Scotland and Iceland, are part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The diverse community of around 50,000 people has traditions dating back centuries and a remarkably low crime rate. Yet the Faroese are often called the last barbarians of Europe. Recent pictures of their bloody custom, the slaughter of pilot whales, went viral on the internet and in the media. Seeing marine mammals being killed and hacked into pieces while children play in the blood-red waters shocked the global community and sparked controversy. Animal activists enlisted celebrities to support a campaign against the killing of pilot whales. Unmoved, the Faroese are determined to continue their tradition and devise ever new weapons for killing the "grinds", insisting that it's no different to killing any other animal for food.

Fat Birds Are Easy Prey: Fulmar Hunting in the Faroe Islands
In the Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic, baby fulmar hunting is an annual August activity. The Faroese depend on seasonal hunting and fishing as a major part of their diet and lifestyle.
At the end of each summer, baby fulmar birds fall from their nests in the fjords, where they bob in the water because they are too fat to fly. During the week or so before they manage to lose weight and take off, the Faroese go out in boats to scoop them from the sea and eat them.
MUNCHIES went baby fulmar hunting with local Høgni Mohr, a writer by profession and a hunter in his spare time. He caught birds for his family and friends to last throughout the coming year. He showed us, via the fulmar feast, what it means to get a local meal in the Faroe Islands.

Goals, Hungary vs Faroe Islands (2-1) EC-Qualification 8.10.2015
Enjoy our page: https://www.facebook.com/LeandroSportsVideos
The result left Hungary with everything to play for in their final match against bottom-side Greece on Sunday.
Northern Ireland are through with 20 points, and either Romania (17) or Hungary (16) will take the remaining automatic place with the third place team in contention through the playoffs.
The Faroes stunned the home crowd taking the lead against the run of play in the 11th minute when Roaldur Jacobsen finished a quick counter attack, turning his marker Roland Juhasz and cleverly shooting past Gabor Kiraly from 13 meters.
Hungary piled on the pressure and Adam Bodi should have scored just before the break but his tame effort from 10 meters was well saved by Gunnar Nielsen.
Bode then had a shot from close range, but Nielsen made a fine save but Bode did not miss his second chance, the striker nodding in from five meters after Tamas Kadar's inch-perfect left wing cross in the 63rd minute.
The one-man show had only just started though as Bode grabbed his second eight minutes later as the powerful striker fired home a rocket after beating two defenders.
The evening which started so brightly ended on a low for the visitors who had captain Atle Gregersen sent off in the last minute for arguing with the Hungarian bench.

Exploding sperm whale carcass caught on camera in the Faroe Islands
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/itnytsub
A camera captured the moment a sperm whale carcass, which washed up in the Faroe Islands, exploded. The clip, which was shown of Faroese Television, has since gone viral, racking up millions of hits on YouTube alone. The dead whale had been lying on the beach for two days, after getting stuck in the waters between two islands, when marine biologist Bjarni Mikkelsen was sent to cut it open. As he made incisions in the whale's side the carcass exploded due to a build up of methane gas from the decomposition creating a loud sound and releasing a pungent smell. It is reported that a local museum will collect the skelton and put it on display. Report by Laurie Blake.

Eivør, Anna Katrin Egilstrøð, Lena, Høgni Reistrup, Høgni Lisberg, HEIÐRIK, Guðrið Hansdóttir, Brandur Enni, Byrta, Linda Andrews — they have a lot of artists!

http://davidsbeenhere.com David’s Been Here is touring the best flavors and top historic sites of the Faroe Islands’ capital city of Torshavn. In this travel clip, David combines the best of both worlds with a visit to Aarstova. Situated in one of the oldest buildings/houses in Torshavn (dating back to the 1600’s), this unique restaurant specializes in authentic, rustic Faroese cuisine. Using local ingredients and family-style serving, Aarstova plays off the antiquated atmosphere of the house giving its guests a truly memorable dining experience. Situated in the North Atlantic Ocean only two hours by plane from mainland Europe the 18 mountainous islands of the Faroe Islands offer 1,289 kilometers of coastline and a proximity of no more than five kilometers to the ocean from any point of the islands.
The close proximity provides the visitor with a variety of experiences of nature – from dramatic landscapes meeting the wild ocean to the peacefulness of the mountains to the nightlife of the capital Tórshavn.

Aarstova - Torshavn, Faroe Islands
http://davidsbeenhere.com David’s Been Here is touring the best flavors and top historic sites of the Faroe Islands’ capital city of Torshavn. If you love shellfish, fish and/or lamb (their signature braised lamb leg dish is amazing!), then a visit to this idyllic Torshavn restaurant is a must!

Iceland & Faroe Islands Escorted Tour
This fabulous itinerary, with a full three weeks in Iceland, travels anti-clockwise around this unique and beautiful Viking wonderland, the Land of Ice and Fire – spouting geysers, soothing thermal pools, glaciers, and fertile farming valleys overshadowed by ancient volcanoes.
As if all that were not enough, a weekend stop-over in the quiet archipelago of the Faroe Islands is also included. If you want to see a remote country that is like no other on Earth, and a real pleasure to visit, or if you are a birder, botanist or geologist, this is for you.
The longest days of the year spent in the Land of the Midnight Sun.
Whales and puffins cruise, less than forty miles from the Arctic Circle.
Day excursion to the Icelandic capital, Reykjavík.
Three nights on the remote archipelago of the Faroe Islands, in the heart of the North Atlantic’s warm Gulf Stream.
Tour group get-togethers. Two or three to be arranged while on the tour, with the exact nature and dates to suit the tour group.

Visit Faroe Islands
Situated in the North Atlantic Ocean only two hours by plane from mainland Europe the 18 mountainous islands of the Faroe Islands offer 1,289 kilometers of coastline and a proximity of no more than five kilometers to the ocean from any point of the islands.
The close proximity provides the visitor with a variety of experiences of nature – from dramatic landscapes meeting the wild ocean to the peacefulness of the mountains to the nightlife of the capital Tórshavn.
