Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II vs the Hittite Emperor Muwatalli II at the Battle of Kadesh
This show focuses on the clash between Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II and the Hittite Emperor Muwatalli II at the Battle of Kadesh.
The Battle of Kadesh (also Qadesh) took place between the forces of the Egyptian Empire under Ramesses II and the Hittite Empire under Muwatalli II at the city of Kadesh on the Orontes River, in what is now the Syrian Arab Republic.
The battle is generally dated to 1274 BC, and is the earliest battle in recorded history for which details of tactics and formations are known. It was probably the largest chariot battle ever fought, involving perhaps 5,000--6,000 chariots.
After expelling the Hyksos 15th dynasty, the native Egyptian New Kingdom rulers became more aggressive in reclaiming control of their state's borders. Thutmose I, Thutmose III and his son and coregent Amenhotep II fought battles from Megiddo north to the Orontes River, including conflict with Kadesh.[citation needed]
Many of the Egyptian campaign accounts between c. 1400 and 1300 BC reflect the general destabilization of the region of the Djahi. The reigns of Thutmose IV and Amenhotep III were undistinguished, except that Egypt continued to lose territory to Mitanni in northern Syria.[citation needed]
During the late Egyptian 18th dynasty, the Amarna Letters tell the story of the decline of Egyptian influence in the region. The Egyptians showed flagging interest here until almost the end of the dynasty. Horemheb, the last ruler of this dynasty, campaigned in this region, finally beginning to turn Egyptian interest back to this region.[citation needed]
This process continued in the 19th Dynasty. Like his father Ramesses I, Seti I was a military commander and set out to restore Egypt's empire to the days of the Tuthmosis kings almost a century before. Inscriptions on Karnak temple walls record the details of his campaigns into Canaan and Syria. He took 20,000 men and reoccupied abandoned Egyptian posts and garrisoned cities. He made an informal peace with the Hittites, took control of coastal areas along the Mediterranean, and continued to campaign in Canaan. A second campaign led him to capture Kadesh (where a stela commemorated his victory) and Amurru. His son and heir Ramesses II campaigned with him. Historical records exist which record a large weapons order by Ramesses II the year prior to the expedition he led to Kadesh in his fifth regnal year.[citation needed]
However, at some point, both regions may have lapsed back into Hittite control. What exactly happened to Amurru is disputed. The Hittitologist Trevor Bryce suggests that, although it may have fallen once again under Hittite control, it is more likely Amurru remained a Hittite vassal state.
The immediate antecedents to the Battle of Kadesh were the early campaigns of Ramesses II into Canaan. In the fourth year of his reign, he marched north into Syria, either to recapture Amurru or, as a probing effort, to confirm his vassals' loyalty and explore the terrain of possible battles. The recovery of Amurru was Muwatalli's stated motivation for marching south to confront the Egyptians. Ramesses marched north in the fifth year of his reign and encountered the Hittites at Kadesh.

Insane or Just Evil? A Psychiatrist Takes a New Look at Hitler
By ERICA GOODE
Published: November 17, 1998
Adolf Hitler is often referred to as a madman, in part because most people are loath to accept such enormity of evil as anything other than the byproduct of psychosis. Yet just how ''mad'' Hitler was, and how much of the evil he perpetrated can be attributed to illness, either physical or mental, has been a subject of disagreement among historians.

The Battle of Kadesh (also Qadesh) took place between the forces of the Egyptian Empire under Ramesses II and the Hittite Empire under Muwatalli II at the city of Kadesh on the Orontes River, just upstream of Lake Homs near the modern Syrian-Lebanese border[10]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kadesh
Ramesses II (variously transliterated as "Rameses" or "Ramses" born c. 1303 BC; died July or August 1213 BC; reigned 1279–1213 BC), also known as Ramesses the Great, was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt. He is often regarded as the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the Egyptian Empire.[7] His successors and later Egyptians called him the "Great Ancestor". Ramesses II led several military expeditions into the Levant, reasserting Egyptian control over Canaan. He also led expeditions to the south, into Nubia, commemorated in inscriptions at Beit el-Wali and Gerf Hussein.
As the pharaoh of the Exodus
Ramesses II is one of the more popular candidates for the Pharaoh of the Exodus
In film, Ramesses was played by Yul Brynner in Cecil B. DeMille's classic The Ten Commandments (1956). Here Ramesses was portrayed as a vengeful tyrant as well as the main antagonist of the film, ever scornful of his father's preference for Moses over "the son of [his] body".
The animated film The Prince of Egypt (1998), also featured a depiction of Ramesses (voiced by Ralph Fiennes), portrayed as Moses' adoptive brother, and ultimately as the film's villain. More recently, Joel Edgerton played Ramesses in the 2014 film Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Atenism, or the Amarna heresy, refers to the religious changes associated with the eighteenth dynasty Pharaoh Amenhotep IV, better known under his adopted name, Akhenaten.

Because of the possible monotheistic character of Atenism, a link to Judaism (and subsequently the monotheistic religions springing from it) has been suggested by various writers. For example, psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud assumed Akhenaten to be the pioneer of monotheistic religion and Moses as Akhenaten's follower in his book Moses and Monotheism (see also Osarseph). The Egyptian author Ahmed Osman went as far as to claim that Moses and Akhenaten were the same person.

And they took samples from the mummy of Merneptah. The illegal thing that happened was that the professor who did the study took the hair samples and put it at his home and this is how his son began to sell this hair to the public. STORY LINE
Locks of 3,200-year-old hair from the pharaoh Ramses II were unveiled at the Egyptian Museum on Tuesday, returned to Egypt after being stolen 30 years ago in France, and put up for sale on the Internet.
The hair samples were displayed alongside pieces of linen bandages and 11 pieces of resin used in the mummification of Ramses and his son Merneptah.
Photographers crowded round the display case as Egypt's culture minister and antiquities chief showed off the returned items.
The unveiling of the recovered materials was attended by Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny and Zahi Hawass, Head of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities.
The theft of the items was discovered when the pieces of hair were put up for sale on a Web site last November, allegedly by a French postman, Jean-Michel Diebolt, who gave the hair a price tag of 2000 euros (2,600 US dollars).
Diebolt is the son of a French researcher who examined the 3,200-year-old mummy when it was brought to France in 1976 for treatment to stop the spread of a rare fungus. Diebolt is being investigated in France for allegedly possessing stolen goods.
Hawass told reporters that while the samples were legally taken from Egypt, Diebolt's father kept the samples at his home, which is how they came to be in his son's possession.
"The illegal thing that happened was that the professor who did the study took the hair samples and put it at his home and this is how his son began to sell this hair to the public," he said.
Egyptian antiquities officials travelled to Paris early last week to retrieve the stolen items.
Hawass thanked the French government for its co-operation said the retrieval of the items was made possible by the strong diplomatic relations between Egypt and France.
Hawass, has pressed several countries for the return of Egyptian antiquities and has sought, without success, the return of such finds as the Rosetta Stone at the British Museum, the bust of Nefertiti at Berlin's Egyptian Museum and a pharaonic mask at the St. Louis Art Museum.

10/10/2015 Putin says ground operation of Russian Space Forces in Assyria is 'out of the question'
STAR WARS 2.0 -- Ramses II v. Russian (Private) Space Forces (Russian: Космические войска России) Established on August 10, 1992 as a Franco-Soviet Joint Venture between Vlad Putin and the House of Bernadotte | Russia: Putin says Russian ground operation in Syria is 'out of the question' -- Ruptly TV 11 October 2015 -- Russian President Vladimir Putin ruled out the possibility of a Russian ground operation in Syria during an interview with Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov in Sochi, Sunday. SOT, Vladimir Solovyov, journalist (Russian): "The Syrian Army launched an offensive. How likely is it to be successful?"
SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "First of all, this depends on the Syrian Army and the Syrian government. We can't make excessive commitments for ourselves and we have never made them. From the very beginning I said that the active phase of our work on Syrian territory will be limited by the deadline of the offensive operation of the Syrian Army. And our goal is, I want to get back to the question you asked, is in the stabilisation of the lawful authorities and to create conditions for the search of political compromise."
SOT, Vladimir Solovyov, journalist (Russian): "Do you mean to stabilise in a military way?"
SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "In a military way. When there are units of international terrorists from ISIS and others near the capital then I think there is no desire to agree with the Syrian authorities, who are almost under siege in their own capital. And the other way round. If the Syrian Army demonstrates its vitality and, what is more important, the readiness to fight against terrorism, and it shows that the authorities can do that, then the possibilities to reach a political compromises will be higher."
SOT, Vladimir Solovyov, journalist (Russian): "Does it mean that you consider the possibility of using Russia's Armed Forces for a ground operation in Syria?"
SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "No. This is out of the question."
SOT, Vladimir Solovyov, journalist (Russian): "Whatever happens?"
SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "No, we don't have intentions to do this and our Syrian friends know this."

5. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ahmad Hussein, chief engineer of Arab Contractors, the company moving the statue
"Today (Thursday 24 August 2006) we are trying to get familiar with the load. The drivers should know it. We made all the checks we had to do and we are preparing the thing to take off on the road on the fixed time 1 o'clock after midnight. And we hope we'll be successful."
6. Close of trailer tyres, pull back to show statue
7. Various of statue being moved very slowly
8. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ahmad Hussein, chief engineer of Arab Contractors, the company moving the statue:
"We found out that the best is to transport it in the vertical position as it stands stable and without any fear on it. It was suffering from some vibrations from the underground and the heavy traffic around, so we found during the rehearsal that the vibrations on the mock statue have been less because of the damping effect of the tyres."
9. Pan left to 6th of October bridge next to the square where the statue is located
10. Tilt down from statue to the contractors involved in the move

STORYLINE
A giant statue of Pharaoh Ramses II will be moved early on Friday morning from a congested square in the centre of Cairo to a more serene home near the Great Pyramids.
Egypt's antiquities chief Zahi Hawass said it was to save it from corrosive pollution.
Exhaust fumes from trains, cars and buses, as well as vibrations from underground trains, have been damaging the more than 3,200-year-old granite statue at Ramses Square, its home since the early 1950s, when it was taken from a temple at the site of the ancient Egyptian capital of Memphis.
The 125-ton statue, a popular feature on postcards and guide books, will become part of a new museum about a mile from the pyramids.
Officials have discussed moving the statue for more than a decade as experts bickered over where it should go. The location at the Grand Museum of Egypt was recently agreed upon and engineers began researching how to move it.
A steel cage has been constructed around the statue and connected to steel beams.
Two flatbed trucks will carry it through the city overnight to avoid traffic. The eight-mile trip will take several hours.
"We found out that the best is to transport it is in the vertical position as it stands stable," Ahmad Hussein, chief engineer of Arab Contractors, the company moving the statue, said.
"It was suffering from some vibrations from the underground and the heavy traffic around, so we found during the rehearsal that the vibrations on the mock statue have been less because of the damping effect of the tyres."
The statue will be renovated as its new home is built. The museum, which also will house King Tutankhamun's mummy and other treasures, is not expected to open for at least five years.
Ramses II was a warrior king who is credited with bringing Egypt unprecedented power and splendour during his 67-year reign. He died in 1225 B.C.
