A Grammy Award (originally called Gramophone Award) – or Grammy – is an accolade by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The annual presentation ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a widely viewed televised ceremony. It is the music equivalent to the Emmy Awards for television, the Tony Awards for stage performances, and the Academy Awards for motion pictures.
The Grammy Awards had their origin in the Hollywood Walk of Fame project in the 1950s. As the recording executives chosen for the Walk of Fame (Tabinda Walk) committee worked at compiling a list of important recording industry people who might qualify for a Walk of Fame star, they realized there were many more people who were leaders in their business who would never earn a star on Hollywood Boulevard. The music executives decided to rectify this by creating an award given by their industry similar to the Oscars and the Emmys. This was the beginning of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. After it was decided to create such an award, there was still a question of what to call it; one working title was the Eddie, to honor the inventor of the phonograph, Thomas Edison. They finally settled on using the name of Edison's invention, the gramophone, for the awards, which were first given for the year 1958.
Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012) was an American recording artist, actress, producer, and model. In 2009, the Guinness World Records cited her as the most-awarded female act of all-time. Houston was one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 170 million albums, singles and videos worldwide. She released seven studio albums and three movie soundtrack albums, all of which have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum or gold certification. Houston's crossover appeal on the popular music charts, as well as her prominence on MTV, starting with her video for "How Will I Know", influenced several African American female artists to follow in her footsteps.
Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits. She is the second artist behind Elton John and the only female artist to have two number-one Billboard 200 Album awards (formerly "Top Pop Album") on the Billboard magazine year-end charts. Houston's 1985 debut album Whitney Houston became the best-selling debut album by a female act at the time of its release. The album was named Rolling Stone's best album of 1986, and was ranked at number 254 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Her second studio album Whitney (1987) became the first album by a female artist to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Gloria Estefan and Emilio talking about their new song "America", an original recording to be featured in the score available as a free download for a limited time on http://www.Macys.com/Fireworks
On Saturday, July 4th, the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will rumble to life over New York City skies in the 39th annual celebration – Brave. Set over the East River, the nation’s largest Independence Day pyrotechnic display will extend to two locations this year. Beginning at approximately 9:20 p.m., the celebration will dazzle the shorelines of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn with an unparalleled spectacle of color, light and sound commemorating the holiday and our nation’s heroes.
“This year's Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks will be an amazing spectacle featuring more than 50,000 effects spread over two locations in the nation's largest Independence Day celebration," said Amy Kule, executive producer of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. “Setting the patriotic tone for the high flying explosions will be a magnificent score featuring the U.S. Air Force Band and renowned artists Emilio and Gloria Estefan, debuting their inspiring original song, ‘America’.”
America’s most spectacular party will take place from two locations on the East River in midtown and within the South Street Seaport district. Designed in collaboration with PyroSpectaculars by Souza, the show will be fired from four barges positioned between 23rd and 37th Streets in midtown and from one double-barge positioned below the Brooklyn Bridge.
Brave, the theme of this year’s show, will fire more than 50,000 pyrotechnic shells and effects during a 25-minute synchronized display. New shells and effects include multi-colored transformation ghosts, blue and red octopi, crescent moons, patriotic stars, double hearts, roaring dragons, screaming banshees, purple rain and spider webbed-shaped shells. The show will combine these mesmerizing effects in 22 different colors, including new neon highlighter yellow, green and pink.
The United States Air Force Band has lent their vocal and instrumental talents to create an inspiring all-American score, to which the entire show is choreographed.
Dynamic arrangements of classic patriotic tunes will include a new song by multi-Grammy Award-winning international superstar Gloria Estefan, and legendary 19-time Grammy Award-winning producer Emilio Estefan. “America,” will be performed by Gloria Estefan with children from VH1 Save The Music’s Park Place Community Middle School Choir from Brooklyn, NY.
In the original song, Gloria and Emilio Estefan convey their love for this country as they give thanks for the opportunities and freedoms we all enjoy. The sentiments expressed in this song are universal to all Americans, but are perfectly realized by the life and careers of this legendary pair, whose story will come to Broadway this fall in the new musical, “On Your Feet!”

In 2009, Billboard named her as the No. 1 Adult Contemporary artist of the 2000 decade and also as the 39th best artist.[4] From 2007 to 2012, Hill was the voice of NBC Sunday Night Football's intro song.[5]Hill was born in Ridgeland, Mississippi, north of Jackson, Mississippi. She was adopted as an infant, and named Audrey Faith Perry. She was raised in the nearby town of Star, 25 miles outside of Jackson.[6] Her adoptive parents, Edna and Ted Perry,[7] raised their two sons along with Hill in a devout Christian environment.[8]
Hill's vocal talent was apparent early, and she had her first public performance, at a 4-H luncheon, when she was seven.[9] In 1976, a few days before her 9th birthday, she attended a concert by Elvis Presley at the State Fair Coliseum, in Jackson, which impressed her deeply. By the time she was a teenager, Hill was a regular performer at area churches, even those not in her own Baptist denomination.[10] At 17, Hill formed a band that played in local rodeos. She graduated from McLaurin Attendance Center in 1986, and briefly attended college at Hinds Junior College (now Hinds Community College) in Raymond, Mississippi.[11] At times, she sang for prisoners at the Hinds County Jail, her song of choice being "Amazing Grace".[12] At age 19 she quit school to move to Nashville and pursue her dream of being a country singer. In her early days in Nashville, Hill auditioned to be a backup singer for Reba McEntire, but failed to secure the job.[8] After a stint selling T-shirts, Hill became a secretary at a music publishing firm.[9] Additionally, Hill also landed a job at a local McDonald's restaurant franchise, which she disliked intensely. "Fries, burgers, cash register – I did it all, I hated it," she has said.[13]
In 1988, she married music publishing executive Daniel Hill (not to be confused with Canadian musician Dan Hill).[14]
Two years later, she began a search for her mother, whom she eventually met in 1993 and with whom she corresponded until her mother's death.[7][15]
A co-worker heard Hill singing to herself one day, and soon the head of her music publishing company was encouraging her to become a demo singer for the firm.[9] She supplemented this work by singing backup vocals for songwriter Gary Burr, who often performed his new songs at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe.[16] During one of those performances, Bob Saporiti, an executive from Warner Bros. Records was in the audience, and, impressed with Hill's voice, began the process of signing her to a recording contract.[8]

Faith Hill (born Audrey Faith Perry; September 21, 1967) is an American country pop singer and occasional actress. She is one of the most successful country artists of all time, having sold more than 40 million records worldwide.[1] Hill is married to country singer Tim McGraw, with whom she has recorded several successful duets.
Hill's first two albums, Take Me as I Am (1993) and It Matters to Me (1995), established her as a popular country singer; they placed a combined three number ones on Billboard's country charts and were major successes in North America. She later rose to mainstream, crossover and international fame with the release of her next two albums, Faith (1998) and Breathe (1999). Faith spawned her first international hit, "This Kiss", and went multi-platinum in various countries. Breathe became her best-selling album to date and one of the best-selling country albums of all time, with the huge crossover success of her signature songs, "Breathe" and "The Way You Love Me". It had massive sales worldwide and earned Hill three Grammy Awards, including Best Country Album. In 2001, she recorded "There You'll Be" for the Pearl Harbor soundtrack and it became an international hit and her best-selling single in Europe. Hill's next two albums, Cry (2002) and Fireflies (2005), were both commercial successes and kept her mainstream popularity; the former spawned another crossover single, "Cry", which won Hill a Grammy Award, and the latter produced the hit singles "Mississippi Girl" and "Like We Never Loved at All", which earned her another Grammy Award.
Hill has won five Grammy Awards, 15 Academy of Country Music Awards, six American Music Awards and several other awards. Her Soul2Soul II Tour 2006 with McGraw became the highest-grossing country tour of all time.[2][3] In 2001, she was named one of the "30 Most Powerful Women in America" by Ladies Home Journal. In 2009, Billboard named her as the No. 1 Adult Contemporary artist of the 2000 decade and also as the 39th best artist.[4] From 2007 to 2012, Hill was the voice of NBC Sunday Night Football's intro song.[5]
