The Road To Damascus by Jeff Williams
This is my sculpture depicting Saul of Tarsus (Apostle Paul) and his horse having an encounter with Jesus on his way to persecute Christians in Damascus. This event blinded Paul. His sight was later restored by Ananias which solidified Paul's conversion to Christianity. Paul was well known for persecuting, beating, and imprisoning Christians and trying to squash the word from spreading any further

*Why are there 3 different depictions of Paul's conversion story?
*Paul cannot keep his lies and stories straight
*The "Lord" (Ba'al/Satan) spoke to Paul
*The Heavenly Father of the Covenant, Yahowah (YHWH), is the antithesis of "the Lord"
*Paul was in Jerusalem training to be a Rabbi when Yahowsha (errantly called Jesus) was there, so why didn't Yahowsha choose Paul as one of his 12 disciples?
*There is no record or indication of who this Ananias of Damascus is or if he even existed
*If Paul didn't require human understanding, if he wasn't taught by men, why Ananias in the first place? Why a man?
*If Yahowsha (the Messiah) is going to do the teaching directly to Paul, what was the purpose of Ananias?
*Yahowah (YHWH) has told us His Torah, Prophets, and Psalms are sufficient and not to add to them
*Paul never quotes Yahowsha (errantly called Jesus or Yeshua) teaching him anything
*Paul's revisionist history is completely fabricated and wholly inconsistent with reason
*If you don't know what Yahowsha means, you don't really know God

And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”
11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. 12 And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”
13 Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”
15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”
17 And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus,[b] who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.
19 So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus.

This is my sculpture depicting Saul of Tarsus (Apostle Paul) and his horse having an encounter with Jesus on his way to persecute Christians in Damascus. This event blinded Paul. His sight was later restored by Ananias which solidified Paul's conversion to Christianity. Paul was well known for persecuting, beating, and imprisoning Christians and trying to squash the word from spreading any further.
I believe that this event was one of the most significant events in the New Testament and in The Bible as a whole. After his conversion, Paul went on to write about a third of the New Testament, spread the word and establish churches throughout the region, and eventually die a martyr's death. It is important in my view because, if Paul can be converted and saved, there is truly hope for anyone and everyone no matter their past. He was the worst of the worst and became the best of the best.
That's powerful.
The final bronze product will have the reins added and a nice base with the inscription from Acts 9: 3-9 NIV:
"As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied."
I am an artist in Amarillo, TX and run River Horse Art Gallery. Come visit us and see some of the other bronze sculptures we have to offer.

The village of Por (Değirmenaltı)
Between Tatvan and Bitlis in the Van district, there is the small village Degirmenalti (formerly Por). The remains of Surp Anania (named for Ananias of Damascus, a disciple of Jesus) is now a manger for sheep and goats. The barrel vault roof is from the fifteenth century, but the foundation dates from the sixth century.
In the village of Degirmenalti (Por in Armenian and Kurdish), an old monastery includes some of the most impressive medieval Khachkar stones in existence. These monumental carved stones were made by monks to show their devotion and artistry. In the past five years some have been knocked down to build houses, though there is hope that they may survive beneath the foundations, waiting to be recovered.

These monumental carved stones were made by monks to show their devotion and artistry. In the past five years some have been knocked down to build houses, though there is hope that they may survive beneath the foundations, waiting to be recovered.

The Damascus Road: Saul Converted
1Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
3As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. 4Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?”
5And he said, “Who are You, Lord?”
Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”
6So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
7And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one. 8Then Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened he saw no one. But they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. 9And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
Ananias Baptizes Saul
10Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.”
And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”
11So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. 12And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”
13Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”
15But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”
17And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.
19So when he had received food, he was strengthened. Then Saul spent some days with the disciples at Damascus.

Saul of Tarsus, persecutor of Christ-followers, was struck by a blinding light on the road to Damascus. This encounter with the Son of God changed his life forever. He became a brave hero of the faith, known by all as the great Apostle Paul, fighting to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles as well as the Jews. Paul took three missionary journeys, planting churches along the way. The letters he wrote to those churches and to individuals like Timothy still guide believers today. During Paul’s service to the Lord, he was mocked, beaten, stoned, jailed, shipwrecked, and ultimately beheaded. He never wavered in his determination to run the race, for he was “not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.”

The Students of Kennesaw State University and Dr. Scott blessed me with a copy of some of the interviews and I must say again, this man Dr. Thomas Scott is a history professor. As I left the University a scripture came to mind Acts 9 Chapter as I read a little of one or two interviews. One interview in particular being that of Vicki Trammell Cuthbert and Superior court Judge James G. Bodiford. In this scripture and before the beginning of time and birth, God knew Saul and that He had need of Saul. God has need of all of us, some will come and some will not.
Through a prophet, in a vision in Damascus, his name was Ananias who was told to go to straight street and there will be a man called Saul of Tarsus. Ananias spoke back to God in a vision saying, "but God I heard this man... he was afraid of Saul but he knew to obey God. In a similar vision after God's touched Saul and he fell to the earth after being blinded and God said to him, "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest and the story goes on. He does not tell Saul who he is going to meet but he tells the prophet where he must meet. This man called Saul who had just been blinded for three days, isn't it special to feel how God wanted to used this man from the beginning of time. Yet it is more special who God will send to be the Ananias of Today
As I read part of the history of Judge James G. Bodiford and the appointment of the first African American Judge of Cobb County Vicki Cuthbert. Not only just on these two people but a Judge Adele Grubbs, a duty Rhonda Anderson, A Col. Prince; and so many more who interviewed; My sister who if our parents were her would know we followed the foundation of our family seed with the love of community Both women being, Judge Adele Grubb the first International woman Assistant DA and to be elected to a Judicial bench in Cobb County. Judge Bridgett Campbell being the first African America appointed by Governor Roy Barnes to a State Court Judgeship. Today my emotions run high, the tears could have come especially when the Grogan family displayed the Hugh Grogan papers many records coming out of he Marietta Branch of the NAACP and seeing so many African Americans who were first enter the room To see the many volumes of history books to go into Archives, my soul rejoiced. I could have been in the back or just had a pee hole in a door it didn't matter because my calling is sure and helping to open a door does not mean one will be the spot light, when we know our gifts. Jesus had purpose and so must we.
As I read of the Judicial system of Cobb County, which came under the administration of Judge James G. Bodiford, when he was appointed to the Magistrate court, working for him I know even more now the dedication and passion this man has for right. Reading the interview from Vicki Cuthbert and him which was done at separate times, I sort of feel him as an Ananias in the 9th chapter It appears he hired the 1st black and white female to a Judicial bench in 1987 and changed the course of historyHe went further to commit to hiring any qualified person in any position, which would also promote education. There was more than one Ananias but the 9th chapter one came to mind about Judge James G. Bodiford. God has people in place to complete the "Greater work's" Jesus commanded that we do. It takes a gifted eye and an unselfish person to deny him or herself to help another and say nothing about it.
We now know he hired the first African American Judge and changed the course of the entire Judicial system in Cobb County Georgia. However also it appears we have to say not only did he appoint the first African American Judge in Cobb County who worked with him for 5 years and Vic Reynolds for 5 years from 1987 to 1997. This first African American was a black woman also. She tells what I wondered why did he do it back in those days in her interview. She also tell a new part of history.
Not only did he appoint the first African American female and African America but he hired by appointment the first female to the Judicial bench of Cobb County both black and white. As early as 1987 it appeared there was no female on the bench. "I do not know because at the time that I became the first African-American judge- Judge Bodiford also hired a white female judge and I'm not sure Christine was the first, I don't think she was the first white female, I think they had another one who had not stayed long, but we basically sort of integrated I guess the male-dominated bench at the same time." per Vicki Cuthbert. " An elected official whom word is his bond. Per Vicki Cuthbeth "My understanding is that one of his campaign promises to the African American Leadership in Cobb County was that if he had the opportunity he would employ qualified African Americans in the court in whatever position, as a judge, if anybody applied."
