Varusmies - Conscript is an educational film for Finnish nationals, who are about to carry out their military service. More information: http://bit.ly/FDF_conscript Military service includes conscript service, refresher training, extra service and service during mobilisation as well as participation in call-ups and the examination of fitness for service. Call-ups form the first concrete step into military service. The civic duty of military service is defined in the second chapter of the law on conscription (called Conscription Act). This duty affects all Finnish men and begins when a man turns 18. It continues till he reaches the age of 60. This means a man is liable for military service and that he is either in service, in the reserve or in the auxiliary reserve.

Click here to subscribe for more: http://bit.ly/PR9OuJ Guitarist: Garrett Peters Tuning: D Standard This is a solo I wrote about 5 years ago for my friends punk metal band Sayaka. Unfortunately, the album was never finished. But I was very happy with what I had come up with, so I decided to mix it myself with the help of my drummer Eric Seal, who created the midi drum track for me. If you liked this video, please consider subscribing! Also, Congratulations to Azhi Ragnaroksama (if that is your name) for guessing my band's shirt correctly on Facebook! Send me a message and we'll send out your free signed Mysidia CD! For all the guitars, I'm using Chapman Guitars ML-2, an Engl Invader 100, and a Rocktron Utopia G300 for effects! For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/?lid=64450 Two decades on from the cold war, European military forces are still coming to terms with reduced peacetime roles. As EU nations abandon military conscription, they face a tough new challenge: recruitment. "We are analysing our target groups, trying to understand what attracts them and get that into our commercials". Sweden suspended conscription in 2010. Since then, as in many other European countries, their military has had to fight for recruits. In Denmark continued conscription is justified by its "leadership training" and "very good salary". The British army argues it offers the same, on a voluntary basis. Yet for those with no previous training, life after service can be very tough. Veteran Gerry explains, "I couldn't find a job because of my damaged legs - so I turned to crime". ORF

Here's another new song i'm working on. Currently in production at the studio but thought i'd do a live version. I think it sounds Dylanesque but with a dash of Pop. Got two mics and two cameras now, Yeay! My favourite bit of this recording is at 0:38 when Rufus shouts in the background! Big thanks to Will Hoey for his help with the video. Philadelphia Daily News 2015-04-17Conscription is the compulsory enlistment of people in some sort of national service, most often military service. Conscription dates back to antiquity and continues in some countries to the present day under various names. The modern system of near-universal national conscription for young men dates to the French Revolution in the 1790s, where it became the basis of a very large and powerful military. Most European nations later copied the system in peacetime, so that men at a certain age would serve 1–3 years on active duty, then transfer to the reserve force.
In China, the State of Qin instituted universal military service following the registration of every household. This allowed huge armies to be levied, and was instrumental in the creation of the Qin Empire that conquered the whole of China in 221BC.
Conscription is controversial, because of conscientious objection to service, or political objection to service for a disliked government, or an unpopular war, and because it violates individual rights. Those conscripted may evade service, sometimes by leaving the country. Some selection systems accommodate these attitudes by providing alternative service outside combat-operations roles or even outside the military, such as Zivildienst in Austria and Switzerland.
Peter "Pete" Seeger (born May 3, 1919) is an American folk singer and an iconic figure in the mid-20th-century American folk music revival. A fixture on nationwide radio in the 1940s, he also had a string of hit records during the early 1950s as a member of The Weavers, most notably their recording of Lead Belly's "Goodnight, Irene", which topped the charts for 13 weeks in 1950. Members of The Weavers were blacklisted during the McCarthy Era. In the 1960s, he re-emerged on the public scene as a prominent singer of protest music in support of international disarmament, civil rights, and environmental causes.
As a song writer, he is best known as the author or co-author of "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "If I Had a Hammer (The Hammer Song)", (composed with Lee Hays of The Weavers), and "Turn, Turn, Turn!", which have been recorded by many artists both in and outside the folk revival movement and are still sung throughout the world. "Flowers" was a hit recording for The Kingston Trio (1962); Marlene Dietrich, who recorded it in English, German and French (1962); and Johnny Rivers (1965). "If I Had a Hammer" was a hit for Peter, Paul & Mary (1962) and Trini Lopez (1963), while The Byrds popularized "Turn, Turn, Turn!" in the mid-1960s, as did Judy Collins in 1964, and The Seekers in 1966. Seeger was one of the folksingers most responsible for popularizing the spiritual "We Shall Overcome" (also recorded by Joan Baez and many other singer-activists) that became the acknowledged anthem of the 1960s American Civil Rights Movement, soon after folk singer and activist Guy Carawan introduced it at the founding meeting of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in 1960. In the PBS "American Masters" episode Pete Seeger: The Power of Song, Seeger states it was he who changed the lyric from the traditional "We will overcome" to the more singable "We shall overcome".
