The initial trials were held from November 20, 1945 to October 1, 1946. The second set of trials of lesser war criminals was conducted under Control Council Law No. 10 at the US Nuremberg Military Tribunals (NMT); among them included the Doctors' Trial and the Judges' Trial. This article primarily deals with the IMT; see the Subsequent Nuremberg Trials for details on those trials.
Rudolf Walter Richard Hess, also spelled Heß (26 April 1894 – 17 August 1987), was a prominent Nazi politician who was Adolf Hitler's deputy in the Nazi Party during the 1930s and early 1940s. On the eve of war with the Soviet Union, he flew solo to Scotland in an attempt to negotiate peace with the United Kingdom, where he was arrested and became a prisoner of war. Hess was tried at Nuremberg and sentenced to life imprisonment, which he served at Spandau Prison, Berlin, where he died in 1987. After World War II Winston Churchill wrote of Hess, "He was a medical and not a criminal case, and should be so regarded."
On 27–28 September 2007, British news services published descriptions of disagreement between his Western and Soviet captors over his treatment and how the Soviet captors were steadfast in denying his release. In July 2011, the remains of Hess were exhumed from a grave in Bavaria after it became a focus of a pilgrimage for neo-Nazis.
Hess, the eldest of four children, was born in Alexandria, Egypt, to Fritz H. Hess, a prosperous German Lutheran importer/exporter from Bavaria, and Clara Hess (née Münch). The family lived in luxury on the Egyptian coast near Alexandria, and visited Germany often during the summers, allowing the Hess children to learn the German language and to absorb German culture. The family moved back to Germany in 1908, where Hess enrolled as a boarder at the Protestant School in Bad Godesberg. Hess showed aptitude in science and mathematics, and expressed interest in becoming an astronomer. However, his father wished him to continue the family business, Hess & Co., and in 1911 convinced Hess to study business for a year in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce.

The Nuremberg trials were a series of military tribunals, held by the Allied forces after World War II, most notable for the prosecution of prominent members of the political, military, and economic leadership of Nazi Germany. The trials were held in the city of Nuremberg, Germany. The first, and best known of these trials, described as "the greatest trial in history" by Norman Birkett, one of the British judges who presided over it,[1] was the trial of the major war criminals before the International Military Tribunal (IMT). Held between 20 November 1945 and 1 October 1946,[2] the Tribunal was given the task of trying 23 of the most important political and military leaders of the Third Reich, though one of the defendants, Martin Bormann, was tried in absentia, while another, Robert Ley, committed suicide within a week of the trial's commencement. Not included were Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, and Joseph Goebbels, all of whom had committed suicide several months before the indictment was signed.[3] The second set of trials of lesser war criminals was conducted under Control Council Law No. 10 at the U.S. Nuremberg Military Tribunals (NMT); among these included the Doctors' Trial and the Judges' Trial. This article primarily deals with the IMT; see Subsequent Nuremberg Trials for details on those trials.

The accusers were successful in unveiling the background of developments that had led to the outbreak of World War II, which cost at least 40 million lives in Europe alone, as well as the extent of the atrocities committed in the name of the Hitler regime. Twelve of the accused were sentenced to death, seven received prison sentences, and three were acquitted.
The death sentences were carried out 16 October 1946 by hanging using the standard drop method instead of long drop. The U.S. army denied claims that the drop length was too short which caused the condemned to die slowly from strangulation instead of quickly from a broken neck. But evidence remains that some of the condemned men died agonizingly slowly taking from between 14 minutes to choke to death to as longs as struggling for 28 minutes. The executioner was John C. Hidden deep in one of the Old Town's medieval sandstone beer cellars, Nuremberg's most important art treasures were saved from the bombs of the Second World War: one of the few good decisions made by the Nazis.
Already in 1938 the Nazis began developing a concept for protecting priceless art treasures. A shelter that is unique in Germany was built beneath the Imperial Castle in the deepest of Nuremberg's medieval subterranean beer cellars. Its purpose was to save priceless works of art from destruction and looting, and thus preserve them for future generations.
Shortly before the outbreak of WW 2, the Nazis developed a concept for protectin

A person's high regard for the Nuremberg Trial tends to be taken down a peg or two upon learning that the American prosecution team offered a shrunken head into evidence, blaming the Nazis for what obviously came from a South American rain forest tribe many years prior.
Toward the end or World War II, U.S. armed forces entered the German wartime concentration camp at Buchenwald. The first
Americans to become active there were officers of the Psychological Warfare Division. They had a plan: to plant "evidence" in the camp that suggests t

A Day Trip to Nuremberg in December 2014
A Day Trip to Nuremberg in December 2014
I took a day trip by train to Nuremberg from Frankfurt in Dec 2014. On a normal regional DB Train, the journey took 3 hrs. Why Nuremberg? During WW2, it was the intellectual capital of the Nazi Party. I visited the incompleted complex of the Nazi Rally Grounds, where at The Documentation Centre, is the exhibits of the Nazi Propaganda that shaped World History during the WW2. Towards the evening, I visited the building where the Nurmber Trials were held to prosecute the War Criminals. The exhibits in the building described the trial proceedings. I arrived back in Frankfurt at 9.30pm.
Nuremberg is definitely a city of history. Some may think of Nuremberg as a Renaissance city of European standing where artists and men of learning such as Albrecht Dürer and Willibald Pirckheimer worked, where Martin Behaim devised the first world globe, and where Peter Henlein made a fob watch tick for the first time. All those images make up the many-faceted mosaic of Nuremberg. Others may remember the Nuremberg Trials and the city abused by the Nazis as the City of the Nazi Party Rallies. With its rich historical heritage and cultural scene, Nuremberg is a destination well worth a visit.

Nuremberg is a city in the German state of Bavaria, in the administrative region of Middle Franconia. Situated on the Pegnitz river and the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal, it is located about 170 kilometres (110 mi) north of Munich. It is the second-largest city in Bavaria (after Munich), and is the largest in Franconia. The population as of December 2011, is 510,602, which makes it Germany's fourteenth largest city. The "European Metropolitan Area Nuremberg" has 3.5 million inhabitants.
Nuremberg held great significance during the Nazi Germany era. Because of the city's relevance to the Holy Roman Empire and its position in the centre of Germany, the Nazi Party chose the city to be the site of huge Nazi Party conventions – the Nuremberg rallies. The rallies were held 1927, 1929 and annually 1933-1938 in Nuremberg. After Adolf Hitler's rise to power in 1933 the Nuremberg rallies became huge Nazi propaganda events, a centre of Nazi ideals. The 1934 rally was filmed by Leni Riefenstahl, and made into a propaganda film called Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will). At the 1935 rally, Hitler specifically ordered the Reichstag to convene at Nuremberg to pass the anti-Semitic Nuremberg Laws which revoked German citizenship for all Jews and other non-Aryans. A number of premises were constructed solely for these assemblies, some of which were not finished. Today many examples of Nazi architecture can still be seen in the city. The city was also the home of the Nazi propagandist Julius Streicher, the publisher of Der Stürmer.
During World War II, Nuremberg was the headquarters of Wehrkreis (military district) XIII, and an important site for military production, including aircraft, submarines, and tank engines. A subcamp of Flossenbürg concentration camp was located here. Extensive use was made of slave labour. The city was severely damaged in Allied strategic bombing from 1943–45. On 2 January 1945, the medieval city centre was systematically bombed by the Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Forces and about ninety percent of it was destroyed in only one hour, with 1,800 residents killed and roughly 100,000 displaced. In February 1945, additional attacks followed. In total, about 6,000 Nuremberg residents are estimated to have been killed in air raids.
Nuremberg was a heavily fortified city that was captured in a fierce battle lasting from 17 to 21 April 1945 by the US 3rd Infantry Division, 42nd Infantry Division, and 45th Infantry Division, which fought house-to-house and block-by-block against determined German resistance, causing further urban devastation to the already bombed and shelled buildings. Despite this intense degree of destruction, the city was rebuilt after the war and was to some extent, restored to its pre-war appearance including the reconstruction of some of its medieval buildings. However, the biggest part of the historic structural condition of the old Imperial Free City was lost forever.
Between 1945 and 1946, German officials involved in war crimes and crimes against humanity were brought before an international tribunal in the Nuremberg Trials. The Soviet Union had wanted these trials to take place in Berlin. However, Nuremberg was chosen as the site for the trials for specific reasons:
• The city had been the location of the Nazi Party's Nuremberg rallies and the laws stripping Jews of their citizenship were passed there. There was symbolic value in making it the place of Nazi demise.
• The Palace of Justice was spacious and largely undamaged (one of the few that had remained largely intact despite extensive Allied bombing of Germany). The already large courtroom was reasonably easily expanded by the removal of the wall at the end opposite the bench, thereby incorporating the adjoining room. A large prison was also part of the complex.
• As a compromise, it was agreed that Berlin would become the permanent seat of the International Military Tribunal and that the first trial (several were planned) would take place in Nuremberg. Due to the Cold War, subsequent trials never took place.
The same courtroom in Nuremberg was the venue of the Nuremberg Military Tribunals, organised by the United States as occupying power in the area.

Shortly before the outbreak of WW 2, the Nazis developed a concept for protecting numerous valuable artworks. In 1939 climatized cells were installed in the old former beer cellar near the castle known as the Blacksmith Cellar. This was the beginning of the transformation of this medieval beer cellar into what is known today as Nuremberg's Historic Art Bunker.

Nazi Shrunken Heads - 'Complete 5 Episodes' (full)
1. Nuremberg
2. Congressman Tom Lantos
3. Senator Chris Dodd
4. Group Evolutionary Strategy
5. Idi Amin
They had a plan: to plant "evidence" in the camp that suggests the German SS had committed atrocious war crimes against the Buchenwald inmates: shrunken prisoner heads, lampshades made of the skin of murdered inmates, etc. Much of this "evidence" was later used during the Nuremberg trials and other similar legal mockeries as evidence against German defendants. From there this atrocity propaganda entered the history books of the world, and the world believed it, and it still does.
The video maker advocates kindness and good vibes towards all Jewish people. And the video maker does not have the intention
of reviving Hitler or Nazism. Hitler was a militarist and this video is anti-militarist. Having said that, the maker of this video also believes that the holocaust is a giant myth. A myth that reverberates today into the promotion of war. This video is about how the media and politicians manipulate the gullible American public and much of the rest of the world for pro-war purposes then and now.
One less frequently exposed example for this warmongering: The notion that Uganda's Idi Amin was likely portrayed as a
psycho-killer due to his anti-Israeli views and Arab alignment. Idi Amin was probably not someone who thought he was
"the last king of Scotland," as the movie about him was titled.

This article primarily deals with the IMT; see Subsequent Nuremberg Trials for details on those trials.

he Nuremberg Trials were a series of military tribunals, held by the Allied forces of World War II, most notable for the prosecution of prominent members of the political, military, and economic leadership of the Nazi Germany. The trials were held in the city of Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany, in 1945--46, at the Palace of Justice.
The first and best known of these trials, described as "[t]he greatest trial in history" by Norman Birkett, one of the British judges who presided over it, was the Trial of the Major War Criminals before the International Military Tribunal (IMT). Held between 20 November 1945 and 1 October 1946, the Tribunal was given the task of trying 23 of the most important political and military leaders of the Third Reich, though one of the defendants, Martin Bormann, was tried in absentia, while another, Robert Ley, committed suicide within a week of the trial's commencement. Absent from the 23 were Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, and Joseph Goebbels, all of whom had committed suicide several months before the indictment was signed.
The second set of trials of lesser war criminals was conducted under Control Council Law No. 10 at the US Nuremberg Military Tribunals (NMT); among them included the Doctors' Trial and the Judges' Trial. The International Military Tribunal was opened on October 20, 1945, in the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg...
Woods. The executions took place in the gymnasium of the court building (demolished in 1983)...

Cannibalism, murder and rape are just a part of everyday life in certain regions of Liberia. Despite the United Nation's eventual intervention, most of this country's young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. In 2009, we went to Liberia to rummage through the messy remains of a country ravaged by 14 years of civil war.
UPDATE: Charles G. Taylor, former President of Liberia and warlord, has been convicted by an international tribunal of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including rape, murder, and the use of child soldiers. He is the first head of state to be found guilty by an international court since the Nuremberg trials.
