Abdication occurs when a monarch, such as a King, Queen, Emperor, or Empress renounces their office.
The word abdication derives from the Latin abdicatio. meaning to disown or renounce (from ab, away from, and dicare, to declare, to proclaim as not belonging to one). In its broadest sense abdication is the act of renouncing and resigning from any formal office, but especially from the supreme office of state. In Roman law the term was also applied to the disowning of a family member, such as the disinheriting of a son. Today the term commonly applies to monarchs, or to those who have been formally crowned. An elected or appointed official is said to resign rather than abdicate.
Among the most memorable abdications of antiquity were those of Lucius Cornelius Sulla the Dictator in 79 BC, Emperor Diocletian in AD 305, and Emperor Romulus Augustulus in AD 476.
Perhaps the most famous abdication in recent memory is that of King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom. In 1936 Edward abdicated the British throne in order to marry American divorcée Wallis Simpson, over the objections of the British establishment, the governments of the Commonwealth, the royal family and the Church of England. The event is known as the abdication crisis. It was the first time in history that the British or English crown was surrendered entirely voluntarily. Richard II of England, for example, was forced to abdicate after power was seized by his cousin, Henry Bolingbroke, while Richard was abroad.
Edward VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David; later The Duke of Windsor; 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972) was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth, and Emperor of India, from 20 January to 11 December 1936.
Before his accession to the throne, Edward was Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall and Rothesay. As a young man, he served in the British Armed Forces during the First World War and undertook several foreign tours on behalf of his father, George V. He was associated with a succession of older, married women but remained unmarried until after his abdication as king.
Edward became king when his father died in early 1936. Only months into his reign, he caused a constitutional crisis by proposing marriage to the American socialite Wallis Simpson, who had divorced her first husband and was seeking a divorce from her second. The prime ministers of the United Kingdom and the Dominions opposed the marriage, arguing that the people would never accept a divorced woman with two living ex-husbands as queen. Additionally, such a marriage would have conflicted with Edward's status as head of the Church of England, which opposed the remarriage of divorced people if their former spouses were still alive. Edward knew that the government led by British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin would resign if the marriage went ahead, which could have dragged the king into a general election and would ruin his status as a politically neutral constitutional monarch. Rather than end his relationship with Simpson, Edward abdicated. He was succeeded by his younger brother Albert, who chose the regnal name George VI. With a reign of 326 days, Edward was one of the shortest-reigning monarchs in British and Commonwealth history. He was never crowned.
Where have all the children gone?
How long must the search go on?
See them on the milk carton
Someone stole their only son
Abducted from their place of play
It seems to happen every day
Almost like it's done for pay
But who to know and who's to say?
Posted in the corner store
Two missing children, maybe more
Their age, their height, the clothes they wore
And just what the witness saw
Most of them are never found
Although a few will come around
In garbage or the river drowned
Simetimes six feet underground
Abduction (2)
Abductors must be really sick
Something in their heads went click
A message from some late night flick
Or even some backwoods red neck hick
The schools are going on patrol
'Cause now the thief is on a roll
Their adding up and taking toll
Abductor must not have a soul
Where have all the children gone?
How long must the search go on?
See them on the milk carton
Someone stole someone's son
Abducted from their place of play?
Are they sold into slavery?
Some say they just ran away
i was just runnin my business
when some aliens came down and did this
they picked me up with a laser

that's the story of my abduction.
true story y'all
Abduction
I wake in sweat you've come to steal my life away
Some strange electric glow of artifical day
The power breakers close, the grid of darkness falls
Shining gleaming black as night, burning all the light
[chorus:]
What do you want from me?
I sense your mastery...
There's something you won't ever find
So have your way with me, this prisoner is never free
Rip me up, leave me behind...
Are you the truth to sit in judgement on my sins
Evil laser gadgets come to penetrate my skin
The hanging judge is open and I'm damned before his eyes
Another genesis that failed - how many more have tried?
[chorus:]
What do you want from me?
I sense your mastery...
There's something you won't ever find
So have your way with me, this prisoner is never free
Rip me up, leave me behind...
[solo]
And so the story goes I dreamt this long ago
Highways hidden in the sand reveal the truths I know
They took my worthless heart and spat it through their eyes
Abduction means the end for me, a million years of misery
[chorus:]
What do you want from me?
I sense your mastery...
There's something you won't ever find
So have your way with me, this soldier's lost his victory
A sea of eyes beneath me.
They're watching me as I increase in altitude.
Though my future is tainted, what a beautiful view.
Scared to death, on the edge of distress.
My blood is pumping, heart is racing as I enter the nest.
Well I bid you all farewell, and I hope that you'll remember my face.
I'm leaving this world I know behind.
Goodbye to all the filth that is mankind.
It won't be long until your punishment has dawned
And everything you've ever known is gone.
Nothing left for me to love, and it buries me.
Oh please heaven help me.
The earth has left me.
I've arrived in side my tomb.
This must be a sign of my imminent doom.
There are figures surrounding me, haunting me.
They're inside my head.
This is the passion yet I never claimed to be a king
So let me down and cut this string.
This is the walk with a cross.
A crown of thorns on my head.
So swing the hammer, watch the nails embed.
I'll pay the price for all of you to live a little more free,
But I'm the only one who doesn't need a cleansing.
Praise me, for I am washing away your sins.
Abduction...
There once was a wayword rhyme
Consistency.. a chilling intent
It slithers in, out and around
As it dares to emanate sound
Whether from above or below
Insistent need we've come to know
Abduction of the way it will
There is such to fulfill
Can it be? It's killing me
Abduction of all space and time
Gone past entertaining distraught
Dimensions have all crumbled before
Consciousness, a state to regress
The here and now gone out of control
Whether from above or below
Incessant lies we've come to know
Chorus
When you find yourself all alone
Amid darkest thoughts of deepest condone
Strange instincts inside of you thrust
Right or wrong, what must unveil shall prevail.. be still
Chorus
What must unveil shall prevail
Once upon a wayward rhyme
I would make him suffer, I would make him beg
I would make him scream
But most importantly: I would make him pay!
Aaaaaah!
Oh my god!
Abduction (8X)
Abduction...
I didn't beg for my life
Because I knew, when this was all over and I was left to my own devices
I would make him pay
I would make him suffer, I would make him beg
I would make him scream
But most importantly: I would make him pay!
Abduction
Oh my god!
Abduction (8X)
