Plot
Stepping into the late-late slot vacated by David Letterman, Conan O'Brien stars in a show that far outdoes its competition in sheer strangeness. Along with the celebrity interviews and musical numbers typical of late-night talk shows, this program make frequent use of odd walk-on characters and frequent "visits" from celebrity guests.

From NBC Studios in New York, it's Late Night with Conan O'Brien!
Pimpbot 5000: I am a Pimpbot. It is within my program to turn out all the hos.
Triumph The Insult Comic Dog: I think Eminem should relax a little. I mean, my mom's a bitch too, but I don't sing songs about it.
Conan O'Brien: Now as I mentioned in the monologue, or as I like to call it- quiet time...
Pimpbot 5000: All the bitches think I'm pretty. Bought my face at Circuit City.
Triumph The Insult Comic Dog: I kid, Conan, I kid. You got a good show... For me to poop on.
[Hollywood Secrets]::Michael Caine: Sometimes people confuse me with Anthony Hopkins. Here is how you tell the difference: I'm the one nailing Mrs. Hopkins.
[Hollywood Secrets]::Gwyneth Paltrow: I'm superstitious. Whenever I start a new movie I kill a hobo with a hammer.
[after learning he can't jump out of a truck, and must only step out]::Conan O'Brien: When will the government get off our backs? We're truckers', dammit!::[quietly]::Conan O'Brien: I wanna live.
Conan O'Brien: Ben and J-Lo have announced that they want a small wedding. Yeah. So they decided to invite all the people who saw GIGLI.
[discussing Zoltan Hargitay, brother of Mariska Hargitay]::Conan O'Brien: Zoltan, you have greatly offended the Council of Nine.
Honey, sweet
I've got something to say to you in privacy
Something I'd like for you to hear
And only your ears alone
Secretly
I've been admiring you intensely
So much so I'd like to settle down with you
And make a home
You are my first breath
My first smile
And my morning cup of tea
Yours is the love
That I pray for
Before I go to sleep
And from the time I saw your face
I knew no other could erase
My loving you with each beat of my heart
Until the day I heard your speak
I didn't know that sound was sweet
Me hearing you with each beat of my heart
There's a time when playing ends
And the serious begins
Like the love that I felt from the start
With each beat of my heart
Honey, sweet
I soared into a heaven's galaxy
So hypnotized was I
From seeing all the magic in your eyes
So I bring
To you what's been a lifetime fantasy
Of being with the only one who can
Create my paradise
You are my first breath
My first smile
And my morning cup of tea
Yours is the love
That I pray for
Before I go to sleep
From the time I saw your face
I knew no other could erase
My loving you with each beat of my heart
Until the day I heard your speak
I didn't know that sound was sweet
Me hearing you with each beat of my heart
There's a time when playing ends
And the serious begins
Like the love that I felt from the start
With each beat of my heart
With each beat of my heart
You are my first breath
My first smile
And my morning cup of tea
Yours is the love
That I pray for
Before I go to sleep
From the time I saw your face
I knew no other could erase
My loving you with each beat of my heart
Until the day I heard your speak
I didn't know that sound was sweet
Me hearing you with each beat of my heart
There's a time when playing ends
And the serious begins
Like the love that I felt from the start
With each beat of my heart
There's a time when playing ends
And the serious begins
Yes like the love that I felt from the start
With each beat of my heart
With each beat of my heart
Oh baby now
Yes with each beat of my heart
With each beat of my heart
Oh baby now
Yes with each beat of my heart
With each beat of my heart
Oh baby now
Yes with each beat of my heart
so let's pretend that you're someone
who's worth this train wreck
i'll let my ego split in half
as she's approaching
together, we'll chant outloud
the satisfaction
lose ourselves so we're not found
you don't know me i'm permanent
you don't know me i'm permanent
you don't know me i'm permanent
and you don't know the half
from fire to fading embers
she remains fragile
under stage lights
we both aren't sure
i beg for a purpose
take my hand
we'll make it through
the satisfaction
and lose ourselves so we're not found
you don't know me i'm permanent
you don't know me i'm permanent
you don't know me i'm permanent
you don't know the haaallllfff
i like to think that i'm someone
who's wings have grown enough to lift him
and i like to think that i'm someone
who's wings have grown enough to life him
who's wings have grown enough to life him
Sometime ago two people I know
They were sittin' in a prison cell
Just talkin' of life of its joys of its strifes
Of the the good times that life held
The kid he told of the jewels and gold
To be had while he played the game
I'm worried not about the sentence I've got
You see my future it's strictly fame
Well I used to lay tricks to baffle the dicks
I would leave them a clue to find
Then I'd beat my retreat on back to easy street
All my thoughts of this jail behind
Only the Characters know what I'm sayin'
Only the Characters know what I mean
Only the Characters have any idea
Only the Characters have seen what I've seen
Well the old man listened till his dim eyes glistened
He said when the kid got through
Son you're young and you've only begun
But old men have a story too
It was late one day on a get-away
I had to shoot a young man down
It was a jewelry store and I was at the door
When the police came around
Well I made a draw and so did the law
Both our rods spit lead
When the smoke had cleared and the scene reappeared
One poor young dude lay dead
Well I was thrown in jail held without bail
Chalked up with first degree
I wasn't so game when my trial day came
Electric chair in front of me
So I tried to grin but it was useless then
My nerves were like the edge of a knife
I held my breath for that verdict of death
But they sentenced me here for my life
Only the Characters know what I'm sayin'
Only the Characters know what I mean
Only the Characters have any idea
Only the Characters have seen what I've seen
So here I sit son I got my life near done
All my hopes and joys have fled
And it won't be long before I join the throng
That's numbered with the dead
