Siberia (/saɪˈbɪəriə/; Russian: Сиби́рь, tr. Sibir', IPA: [sʲɪˈbʲirʲ] ( listen)) is an extensive geographical region constituting almost all of North Asia. The region has been part of Russia since 17th century. The territory of Siberia extends eastward from the Ural Mountains to the watershed between the Pacific and Arctic drainage basins. Siberia stretches southward from the Arctic Ocean to the hills of north-central Kazakhstan, then to the national borders of Mongolia and China.[1] Siberia makes up about 77% of Russia's territory (13.1 million square kilometres), but is home to only 28% (40 million people) of Russia's population.
With an area of 13.1 million km² (5.1 million square miles), Siberia takes up roughly 77% of Russia's total territory. Major geographical zones include the West Siberian Plain and the Central Siberian Plateau. Siberia covers almost 10% of Earth's land surface (148,940,000 km²).
Eastern and central Sakha comprise numerous North-South mountain ranges of various ages. These mountains extend up to almost three thousand meters in elevation, but above a few hundred meters they are almost completely devoid of vegetation. The Verkhoyansk Range was extensively glaciated in the Pleistocene, but the climate was too dry for glaciation to extend to low elevations. At these low elevations are numerous valleys, many of them deep, and covered with larch forest, except in the extreme North, where the tundra dominates. Soils are mainly turbels. The active layer tends to be less than one meter deep, except near rivers.
The highest point in Siberia is the active volcano Klyuchevskaya Sopka, on the Kamchatka Peninsula. Its peak is at 4,649 meters (15,253 ft).
The West Siberian Plain consists mostly of Cenozoic alluvial deposits and is somewhat flat. Many deposits on this plain result from ice dams. The flow of the Ob and Yenisei Rivers was reversed, so they were redirected into the Caspian Sea (perhaps the Aral as well). The area is very swampy and soils are mostly peaty Histosols and, in the treeless northern part, Histels. In the south of the plain, where permafrost is largely absent, rich grasslands that are an extension of the Kazakh Steppe formed the original vegetation - most of it is not visible anymore Insurance Loans Mortgage Attorney Credit Lawyer Donate Degree Hosting Claim.
The Central Siberian Plateau is an extremely ancient craton (sometimes named Angaraland) that formed an independent continent before the Permian (see Siberia (continent)). It is exceptionally rich in minerals, containing large deposits of gold, diamonds, and ores of manganese, lead, zinc, nickel, cobalt and molybdenum. Much of the area includes the Siberian Traps which is a large igneous province. The massive eruptive period was approximately coincident with the Permian--Triassic extinction event. The volcanic event is said to be the largest known volcanic eruption in Earth's history. Only the extreme northwest was glaciated during the Quaternary, but almost all is under exceptionally deep permafrost and the only tree that can thrive, despite the warm summers, is the deciduous Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica) with its very shallow roots. Outside the extreme northwest, the taiga is dominant; in fact, taiga covers a significant fraction of the entirety of Siberia.[20] Soils here are mainly Turbels, giving way to Spodosols where the active layer becomes thicker and the ice content lower.

Wild Russia is a landmark High Definition series charting a journey across this vast land that stretches from Europe to the Pacific Ocean.
Covering 11 time zones, this huge country contains a wealth of unspoilt natural wildernesses - beyond the huge cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, a primal world with rough mountain summits, wild rivers and an unmatched flora and fauna reveals itself.
Through unprecedented access we showcase the wild spectacle that is the Russian continent. Across six dramatic episodes we explore this diverse and even exotic country.
Russia is a place of superlatives proving that size does matter. Few countries are home to such extraordinary mammals: the Amur Tiger is the world’s largest cat; the Polar Bear is the world’s largest land predator; massive brown bears scour the rivers in search of salmon.
The Russian skies are home to the world’s largest owl and majestic sea eagles. In the freezing northern waters, walruses and Beluga whales hunt for fish.
It also provides a refuge for some for some incredibly rare species – including the beautiful and elusive Amur Leopard.

To this day, the Siberian wilderness is still one of the most isolated places in the world. Known as the Siberian taiga (meaning “forest” in Russian), its harsh, cold climate greatly discourages human habitation. Its steep hills and difficult terrain makes it nearly impossible to travel through it, much less live there. It’s filled with pine and birch trees, nearly undisturbed by humans for centuries. Bears and red foxes wander through the forest during the day, while wolves hunt at night. It’s freezing cold with the average mean yearly temperature at negative five degrees Celsius. Stretching east to west, from the Atlantic Ocean across the continent to the Mediterranean, and extending up north to the Mongolian Arctic border, the Siberian taiga is the largest of Earth’s nearly uninhabited wilderness. Nearly five million square miles of barren land sparsely populated by a few towns containing only a few thousand people.

The region-champion has everything best: its territory of more than 2 000 square kilometers can be compared to 10 Great Britains or 4.5 Frances. But the vast place from Laptev and Kara Seas to Uryanhaisky district is occupied by the famous region of Russia - Krasnoyarsk region, which is dearly loved by its people and by the guests.
There is the northernmost point of the Asian continent, the northernmost archipelago of Asia and the northernmost Russian theatre situated on the territory of the region. They are Cheluskin cape on Taimyr, Northern Land in Arctic Ocean and Norilsk Mayakovsky polar theatre. The northern part of the region includes Taimyrsky and Evenkiysky municipal districts, Turuhansky, Yeniseisky and Severo-Yeniseisky districts. They are inhabited by Turk dolgans, samodiysky nents, ents, nganasans, selkups, kamasints, motors, evenks, kets, kots and asans who carefully preserve and revive the unique culture of Krasnoyarsk region's aborigines.
Krasnoyarsk region holds the first place according to coal, nickel, nepheline, magnesite and graphite resources. Almost all platinoids are mined in the region. Besides 75% of cobalt, 80% of nickel, 70 % of copper, 24% of lead, 16% of coal of all Russian volume is mined in Krasnoyarsk region. The region is also among the first in the country according to gold mining and the first in the country according to hydro energetic potential: the turbines and generators of Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station are the most powerful in Russia (6400 watt).
Low and Podkamennaya Tunguska, Angara, Kan, Biryusa, Mana, Tuba and other rivers (more than 20 000) join their waters with one of the biggest rivers of Russia - the powerful Yenisei. The region also has the biggest waterfall of Russia (400 meters) and the most beautiful and complicated rapid on Yenisei - Kazachinsky.
Krasnoyarsk region can amaze everybody: a unique exposition of a Siberian village under open sky "An ethnographic museum-reserve "Shushenskoe", the state nature-reserve "Stolby", the first world level ski resort in Russia The fun park "Bobrovy log" and picturesque slopes of the nature park "Ergaki". The ancient city-museum Yeniseisk and the Memorial complex in Ovsyanka village devoted to our famous countryman Viktor Astafyev are natural and unique.
Krasnoyarsk region is a Mecca for ecotourists. There is the biggest in Russia nature reserve Bolshoy Arktichesky (Big Arctic, 5149 hectares) and one of the largest zoo in Siberia "Roev ruchey" where a family of giraffes happily lives in a warm cage.
The state nature reserves Putoranskiy, Sayano-Shushensky, Taimyrskiy, Central-Siberian and a national park "Shushensky bor" attract many tourists from all over the world every year.
Krasnoyarsk citizens have their own Krasnoyarsk Sea and a southern resort Tagarskoe lake.
In XVIII century the first meteorite "Pallas Iron" fell on the territory of Krasnoyarsk region, after that a unique Tungussky nature reserve which helps to reveal the mystery of Tunguska event was founded here.
Krasnoyarsk region is situated in the very center of Russia and of course in the hearts of all Siberian people.

In the southwest of Siberia, is one of the most beautiful places in all of Russia: The Altai Mountains. This mountainous land, where the great Siberian rivers start flowing, is called Siberian Switzerland for good reason! Altai is second to none in the beauty of its landscapes, and in the diversity of its attractions.
What is Altai? A flowery fragrance of Alpine meadows; the medicinal plants and grasses along the icy mountain streams; the famous Altai honey; the nomadic stone idols and Rerich's trails; the settlements of the "old believers", the Siberian shamans...
From the ancient times the Altai was called "Golden mountain" (the name of the Altai comes from a Mongolian word "altan" - "gold"). Located at an equal distance away from four oceans, right in the center of the Eurasian continent, it lies on the crossroads of Mongolian and Turkish worlds, and keeps all the traces of the centuries-old history: overgrown enclosures and burial-mounds, pictures and characters on the weathered rocks, ancient stone statues...
The Altai has escaped urbanization, remaining unchanged in the diversity of its landscape - limpid rivers, dense taiga, high-mountain meadows, sparkling glaciers, - all features of a gorgeous, majestic, and imposing land!
Isn't it curious that the Altai has the landscapes of almost all the geographical zones of the world? In one trip to the Altai it is possible to see deserted Mongolian steppe, dense Siberian taiga, and the high-mountain glaciers, where during the summer snowfall is higher than during the winter. You can gather a basket of ripe cedar-cones amidst the lofty forests, and half an hour later meet pastured camels on the valley floor!
The climate of the Golden Mountains is an ideal mean between the Asian heat and the Siberian cold. July is the most enjoyable month of the summer, when the clear weather becomes settled in the high mountains. The taiga in the Altai is unique, because it's completely (!) void of mosquitoes! The majority of tourists come to the Altai during the summer time. However, the Altai is also good in autumn, especially in September when one can experience golden larch taiga, dazzling white snow on high black rocks, and clear azure skies! Winter freezes even the fastest rivers - at the bottom of dark gorges water turns into cascades of pale green ice. People who are fond of ski adventures prefer March and April, when the Siberian cold is already gone. The springtime in the Altai Mountains is very sunny.
алтай алтай
The highest peak of Siberia (4506 m) is located in the Altai, and bears the name of "Belukha". The three-headed peak of Belukha is a symbol of the peaceful coexistence of three world religions: Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. The Altaian believed this mountain to be sacred and called it Uch-Semer.
The Belokuruha and Teletskoye Lake resorts are famous for their relaxing and inspiring atmosphere: the beautiful mountain landscapes, luxuriant vegetation, an aroma of pine-trees, the bird-cherry trees, the lilac, and the sounds of a mountain river...The main attraction of Belokuriha is its unique, underground sources of nitric-radon water. Enriched with a unique salt and with the temperature of water between 27 and 42 C, it is a wonderful remedy for many diseases.
The Altai is one of the few places where all levels of different types of active tourism are available.
Mountain-climbing? The first known attempts at climbing the Belukha were made at the end of the eighteenth century. Nobody knows how many undiscovered routes are still to be found!
White-water rafting? The river Catun' is not called "the cradle of water tourism" for nothing. Once, at a time when wooden rafts were used, the river was considered to be difficult and defined the required skills of a true rafter. Nowadays, due to the new means of rafting, there is no need to be a professional to overcome a storm of the Catun' rapids.
Many horseback riding routes cross the Altai Mountains, where you can find mountain bikers, skiers, and speleologists. Siberia is the terra incognita of Russia. The Altai Mountains, the heart of Siberia, are waiting for you!

With the very intitiation of NAWAPA in North America, politically and economically, the land connection of the continents of America and Eurasia is placed on the agenda. The connection via the Bering Strait, a project that was first proposed in the middle of the 19th century, would lead highways and rail track through a tunnel underneath the icy ocean waters, and would include a gas pipeline, as well as power transmission and communications lines.
Construction of the Bering Strait Tunnel is an active agenda of many of the most important nations in that region.
One of the international specialists on planning and constructing infrastructure projects of this scale and kind, is Dr. Hal Cooper. Dr. Cooper has inspired and performed extensive feasibility studies on the rail and tunnel project for the Bering Strait, the rail connections within Alaska and Canada, as well as numerous other projects.
Dr. Sergei Cherkasov is a further international specialist for such projects. Cherkasov works at the State Geological Vernadsky Museum in Moscow, which is part of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is a leading expert on questions of raw materials in the scientific tradition of Vladimir Vernadsky and Dmitri Mendeleyev, and is active in several international working groups on surveying undiscovered mineral deposits.

They are eruptions so vast, so Earth-shattering, they have changed the history of our planet. Climate collapse. Toxic turmoil. Mass extinction. Worse than a killer asteroid, or nuclear war, they are Earth's most destructive Supervolcanoes.
North America, the time was six hundred and forty thousand years ago, long before humans arrived on the continent. Amid one of nature's great mountain building projects, the Rockies, vast columns of smoke began to rise high into the atmosphere. And soon a smokey haze wrapped the globe.
A thick blanket of ashe spread over the western United States. Geologists have traced this event to a depression in the land known as a caldera, in the heart of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Today, we venture to Yellowstone to admire its spectacles of steam and boiling mud.
Visitors to Yellowstone may never suspect they are atop one of the world's largest active volcanoes.
The last time it blew, it sent an estimated 1000 cubic kilometers of dirt, rocks, ashe, dust, and soot into the atmosphere. But that's small compared to Earth's largest super volcanoes. Find out what made Toba, Siberian Traps, Deccan Traps and other super eruptions so powerful.

http://sincedutch.wordpress.com/2012/02/26/2262012-6-8-magnitude-earthquake-in-siberia-russia-new-north-pole-has-an-earthquake/
The movement continues to increase --- swarms of 5.0M+ earthquake, plus swarms occurring in Hawaii, Vanuatu, and Puerto Rico.
South Americas coast is literally cluttered with 4.0 and 5.0M earthquakes spanning the entire continent (in the past 24 hours)... also the west pacific ... new zealand north to vanuatu.. west through indonesia.. north through the philippines ... terminating in tawian with the 5.9M just a few hours ago (2/25/2012).
Be aware of the threat to the west coast USA --- last weeks 6.0 and 5.6M.. also the 4.0M+ earthquakes along the edge of the north american craton (new madrid seismic zone) and northeast in Quebec / Ontario canada.
The whole earth is in a obvious state of "unrest" , earthquake prone areas should be on alert.. and NON earthquake prone areas should be aware of the potential threat.

In 2007, Bhavik became the first Asian to single-handedly row across the Atlantic Ocean, spending 106 days alone at sea in a 23-feet rowing boat.
Bhavik is one of the rising sporting personalities in Endurance Sports. His other achievements in endurance include: Cycling solo for 3000 km across Europe, and a 9000-km trek across Eurasia braving through Siberia and Mongolia during winter to Hong Kong.
He is one of the few athletes in the world who have crossed an ocean and a continent only with raw human power and was voted amongst the top 5 sports personalities of the Year 2007 by Outside Magazine.
With his background as a serial technology entrepreneur, Bhavik works with numerous startups in Technology, Telecoms and New Media.
His philosophy of ongoing personal growth will inspire his audiences to aspire, achieve and advance towards their goals both individually and collectively.
TEDxMälaren (June 15, 2010) was organized by a bunch of quirky students from Singapore while on exchange in Sweden.
The name Mälaren comes from Lake Mälaren, the third largest lake in Sweden. Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea on its eastern end to form 14 major islands, thus shaping Stockholm.
Just like Lake Mälaren that connects towns across Sweden, TEDxMälaren will connect topics in featuring a holistic perspective of inter-linked global issues through the audience, the organizers and speakers of diverse backgrounds, with different forms of media.
TEDxMälaren aims to reach beyond the Scandinavian seas and explore the influence of cultural, political and socio-economic diversity on the way we think, and ought to think for a better future.
About TEDx, x = independently organised event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organised.

A baby black-footed penguin was fed in a Siberian zoo on Tuesday. The chick had been born at the Krasnoyarsk Zoo on October 21, where its egg had been held in an incubator before hatching.
The black-footed penguin is also referred to as the African penguin because it is the only penguin species to inhabit the continent. With wild populations dwindling, the endangered species is protected by the government of South Africa. Unlike its Antarctic counterparts, the African penguin is suited to warm climates.

In 2010 I spent nearly 3 months travelling by the cheapest means possible to all the interesting places between Beijing and Magadan. This video focuses on the section where I hitchhiked 2000km along the Road of Bones, exploring abandoned cities and narrowly escaping death myself. At 17 minutes, it's lengthy for a youtube video, but it's a lot shorter than the 17 DAYS it took to travel that section. Along the way I met the most incredible people, couchsurfed with people who had joined the website years before (or a day after!) but hadn't met any travelers or foreigners before they met me. When I set out, I had little more than a Russian dictionary and boundless optimism. When I returned, I was not the same as I was before.
I'm always happy to provide what information I can about the area, and wrote most of the wikitravel articles addressing the North-East corner of the Asian continent.

The oldest modern human genome to be mapped by scientists is that of a four year old Siberian boy who died around 24 thousand years ago. Researchers at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark who analyzed a bone sample from the remains of the Siberian boy found that there are genetic similarities between European populations, and Native American populations.
Eske Willerslev, the lead researcher of the study from the University of Copenhagen said: "When we sequenced this genome, something strange appeared. Parts of the genome you find today in western Eurasians, other parts of the genome you find today in Native Americans - and are unique today to Native Americans."
Results of the analysis imply that around a third of Native American genetic ancestry was derived from people related to ancient Europeans, based on the comparison of the Siberian boy's genome with those of other modern human populations.
The boy shared very little genetic similarities with modern East Asian populations, so the study raises more questions about the migration of ancient human beings from the Eurasian continent to North America.
What do you think about the genetic connection between America and Europe that was discovered by researchers?

Snow country (雪国 yukiguni; also, more prosaically, 豪雪地帯 gōsetsu chitai ["heavy snow area"]) refers to areas in Japan characterized by heavy, long-lasting snowfalls.
The rather poetic snow country (雪国 yukiguni?) can refer to any place with heavy or deep snows and is generally understood as a reference to the Sea of Japan side of Honshū (Japan's main island) and the area encompassed by the Japanese Alps, a series of mountain ranges that make up the island's backbone. In its broadest meaning, snow country means the belt along the Sea of Japan from Yamaguchi (in particular, Shimane) in the south to Honshū's northern tip, as well as Sado Island and Hokkaidō. More narrowly defined, it is used to indicate the area from Fukui to Akita Prefecture, but it is most closely associated with part of Fukui and all of Toyama and Niigata Prefectures.
"Heavy Snowfall Zones" refers to places where snowfall and snow cover are severe enough to be a hindrance to the livelihood of inhabitants or the development of local industry. In all, more than half of Japan's land area carries the designation—all of ten of the country's 47 prefectures and portions of fourteen others. Heavy snow areas are eligible for subsidies and other special consideration from the central government to help them cope with the snow (such as for snow removal) and otherwise bring stability to local livelihoods and economies.
The heavy snowfalls of Japan's snow country are caused by moisture-laden clouds bumping up against the mountains along the backbone of Honshū and releasing their moisture under the influence of westerly winds blowing off the continent or down from Siberia. As a result, the region includes some of the world's snowiest spots at the same latitudes, many localities are also frequently visited by avalanches.
Frequently snow is so deep in some places that buildings have a special entrance on their second story; people must remove snow from their roofs to prevent its weight from crushing their homes, and special care is taken to protect trees from the snow's weight. In some towns, people used to tunnel paths to one another's homes, and streets were lined with covered sidewalks to ensure that people could get around. Today in areas where temperatures are high enough to make it practical, many roads are equipped with sprinklers using warm ground water to keep them passable by melting the snow.
The most recent record snows were brought by the blizzards of December 2005–February 2006, when well over 3 m (4.5 m in one part of Aomori Prefecture) of snow accumulated in many rural areas, and anywhere from 46 cm (Tottori) to nearly 1.5 m (Aomori) piled up even in several major cities.

One striking feature of Japan's snow country are the snow monsters (樹氷 Juhyō?) on Mount Zaō (蔵王山 Zaō-san?). Strong wind over the nearby lake fling water droplets which freeze against the trees and their branches, until near-horizontal icicles begin to form. Falling snow settles on the ice formations, and the end result is a grotesque figure of a tree. The effect of a full forest of such trees gives visitors a ghostly impression.

Islam, in the tenth century, was the main religion, or at least, the religion of the majority of peoples in an area covering more than half of the civilized world stretching over three continents from the Pyrenees and Siberia in West and North Europe to the farthest end of Asia, up to China and New Guinea in the East; from Morocco in North Africa to the southern tip of Africa, covering two-thirds of the African continent. It is one of the most striking facts of human history that the spread of Islam over such a vast area took place within three centuries. Most striking of all, within half a century after the Hijra, Islam had already conquered the whole of North Africa from Egypt to Morocco, all the Middle Eastern lands from Yemen to Caucasia and from Egypt to the lands beyond Transoxiana. It was during the reign of the third Caliph Uthman that the Muslim envoys reached the Chinese Palace, where they were welcomed enthusiastically, an important event marking, according to the historians, the beginning of Islam's entry into this country.
Among the reasons for the rapid and peaceful spread of Islam was the simplicity of its doctrine. Islam calls for faith in only One God worthy of worship. It also repeatedly instructs man to use his powers of intelligence and observation.
Within a few years, great civilizations and universities were flourishing, for according to the Prophet ( pbuh ) , 'seeking knowledge is an obligation for every Muslim. The synthesis of Eastern and Western ideas and of new thought with old, brought about great advances in medicine, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography, architecture, art, literature, and history. Many crucial systems such as algebra, the Arabic numerals, and also the concept of the zero (vital to the advancement of mathematics), were transmitted to medieval Europe from Islam. Sophisticated instruments which were to make possible the European voyages of discovery were developed, including the astrolabe, the quadrant and good navigational maps.

A study of skulls excavated from the tip of Baja California in Mexico suggests that the first Americans may not have been the ancestors of today's Amerindians, but another people who came from Southeast Asia and the southern Pacific area.
The question of who colonized the Americas, and when, has long been hotly debated. Traditionally, Native Americans are believed to have descended from northeast Asia, arriving over a land bridge between Siberia and Alaska some 12,000 years ago and then migrating across North and South America.
But recent research, including the Baja California study, indicates that the initial settlement of the continent was instead driven by Southeast Asians who occupied Australia 60,000 years ago and then expanded into the Americas about 13,500 years ago, prior to Mongoloid people arriving from northeast Asia.
The skulls from Baja California, which may date back only a few hundred years, have slender-looking faces that are different from the broad-cheeked craniums of modern Amerindians, the descendants of the Mongoloid people.
"Our results change the traditional idea that all modern Amerindians present morphological affinities with East Asians as a result of a single migration," said Rolando González-José of the University of Barcelona, Spain, who led the study. "The settlement of the New World is better explained by considering a continuous influx of people from Asia."
The new study is reported in this week's issue of the science journal Nature, and could further fuel the controversy surrounding the origins of the first Americans, which is a controversial issue for American Indians in particular.
Challenging Clovis
Conventional wisdom says that Native Americans descended from prehistoric hunters who walked from northeast Asia across a land bridge, formed at the end of the Ice Age, to Alaska some 12,000 years ago. American Indians resemble the people of Mongolia, China and Siberia.
In the 1930s, archeologists found stone spear points among the bones of mammoths near Clovis, New Mexico. Radio carbon dating in the 1950s showed that the oldest site was 11,400 years old. The sites were assumed, for years, to be the first evidence of human occupation in the Americas.
But more recent discoveries challenge the Clovis story. In 1996, archeologists in southern Chile found weapons and tools dating back 12,500 years. In Brazil, they found some of the oldest human remains in the Americas, among them a skeleton—named Luzia—that is more than 11,000 years old.
Luzia did not look like American Indians. Instead, her facial features matched most closely with the native Aborigines in Australia. These people date back to about 60,000 years and were themselves descended from the first humans who probably originated in Africa.
The researchers believe Luzia was part of a people, referred to as "Paleoamericans," who migrated into the Americas—possibly even by boat—long before the Mongoloid people. These Paleoamericans may later have been wiped out by or interbred with Mongoloids invading from the north.

Travel video about destination Russia.
Russia is a country full of adventure, culture and vast distances. A continent, a multi-ethnic country and a vast land unites both Europe and Asia. Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe in which both Tsar rule and soviet communism gave the city its present appearance. The Kremlin is located on a forty metre high hill above the Moskva River and beyond its protective walls are numerous buildings, palaces, towers, squares and churches. The city’s history began with the construction of the Kremlin which lay at the very heart of the city and was for centuries Russia’s spiritual and political centre. A fascinating cruise travels across numerous rivers, canals and lakes within the heart of the former Tsar’s realm, past monasteries and timber built churches. In Uglič the Dimitrijvskaija Church is crowned with blue, onion-shaped domes that are adorned with stars. The red colour of the church is a symbol of bloodshed and the incidents that once occurred at this place of death gave rise to a time of confusion. St. Petersburg, known also as the Venice Of The North, contains splendid buildings such as the Winter Palace and the Eremitage. Twenty four thousand tree stumps were used for the foundation of Isaaks Cathedral that can accommodate a congregation of fourteen thousand. In Port Baikal is the modern Circum-Baikal train that takes a full day to travel around Lake Baikal and is one of the most difficult sections of the Trans-Siberian Railroad that travels from Moscow to as far as Vladivostok. Russia is huge and its nature, culture, immense contrast and dramatic history have formed the fascinating and colourful Russian soul.

Ancient Aliens Debunked is a 3 hour refutation of the theories proposed on the History Channel series Ancient Aliens. It is essentially a point by point critique of the "ancient astronaut theory" which has been proposed by people like Erich von Däniken and Zecharia Sitchin as well as many others.
The film covers topics like:

Ancient Aliens Debunked is a 3 hour refutation of the theories proposed on the History Channel series Ancient Aliens. It is essentially a point by point critique of the "ancient astronaut theory" which has been proposed by people like Erich von Däniken and Zecharia Sitchin as well as many others.
The film covers topics like:
Ancient building sites: Puma Punku, The Pyramids, Baalbek, Incan sites, And Easter Island. Ancient artifacts: Pacal's rocket, the Nazca lines, the Tolima "fighter jets", the Egyptian "light bulb", Ufo's in ancient art, and the crystal skulls. Ancient text issues: Ezekiel's wheel, Ancient nuclear warfare, Vimana's, the Anunnaki, and the Nephilim.

Topic: Following Tracks Across Three Countries
The Trans-Siberian Railway is one of those mythical journeys on which many affected by travellers must embark. Those especially entranced with the prospect of boarding a train and riding it for days on end will find the notion particularly exciting. However, though the branches all fall under the umbrella term of "Trans-Siberian", there are specific rails that pass though areas not Siberia. One branch, for example, traverses the landscapes between Beijing, China, and Irkutsk, Russia, where it finally meets up with the larger -- and more famous -- Trans-Siberian. This branch is called the Trans-Mongolian and it is, in my opinion, a much more interesting path to follow through the continent of Asia.

Searching for Eurasia
After completing the 3 Months Cross Continental Research Trip
This is a report of trans-continental fieldwork by a Berlin based independent curator Shinya Watanabe.
While living in New York City for 7 years and had traveled many countries mainly in Europe and Asia as a back-packer, I have continued my research on art history. In the process, I realized that what is so called "Europe" and "Asia", or "West" and "East" is mere an imaginary division, and found that both of them shares the same roots, and had been developed by influencing each other.
To think like that, I have been influenced by German Artist Joseph Beuys and Korean artist Nam June Paik's life long collaborative art project called "Eur-Asia". Through this project, they tried to overcome the divides of ideology and the modern nation-states which could be also the cause of war, and declared the ideal of "Eur-Asia", the unity of Europe and Asia as one continental culture.
Even so, I felt a need to know how the continuity of language, religious and culture exist in Eurasia. Therefore, I decided to cross the Eurasian continent without using an airplane, from Berlin to my home country Japan, from July to October 2013.
First, I departed Berlin, and went to Crimean Peninsula of Ukraine where Joseph Beuys's bomber crashed, and did a research with local Tatars who may saved the life of Joseph Beuys. From the Christian Icon paintings in an old monastery of Georgia, I could feel the influence of mudra hand sign of Hinduism.
On the way of crossing "Silk Road" to Samarkand, I accidentally found the bird funeral site of Zoroastrianism. Then I continued northern "Steppe Road" of Siberia to Irkutsk which Nam June Paik called the "Highway of Eurasia". There I met Buryats, one of the Mongolian tribe considered to be the roots of Japanese. They believe reincarnation, and consider white swans as their ancestor.
In Mongolia, I discovered and experienced the traditional massage of using fat and felt which Joseph Beuys may be experienced. In Ulaanbaatar, I asked a local shaman to bring down the soul of late Chris Marker, the film director who claimed to be born in Ulaanbaatar.
After visiting China, I visited Nam June Paik Art Center in Seoul by ferry, and returned my home country Japan. In this opportunity, I would like to share the photos and videos which I discovered in this journey.
Isn't it a cause of war, that all of us living on the same earth do not know each other, and considering others as completely different thing, which cause any suspicion or hostility? Don't you think that we can abolish the war, if we could consider other people or cultures which you had thought completely different is actually connected to your own?
Now we are facing the end of modernity, and even experiencing the shift of civilization. I believe that the outcome of this fieldwork will be the great common assets of humankind, and will illuminate our future after the end of modernity.

An adventure into an amazing country. 4 seasons packed into 15 days
The Summer: the Gobi is not just a desert. Is a unique region comprising of mountains, sand dunes, grass lands and flat pans. Life here is though not only physically (due to the arid climate) but also mentally: before reaching the mountains and the dunes, the so-called "middle Gobi" is an immense flat pan with no landmarks for miles. It's mental as it seems to be in an infinite area that will never end.
The Spring: the Orhon valley. This is the Mongolia typical postcard. Green land and blue sky dotted with white ghers (the local typical tents) and clouds. Full of livestock, every valley in the region shows the nomadic life of Mongolians that has been going on for centuries. In the town of Karkhorin, very little ruins bring your mind to the era of Chinggis Khan when Mongolians run for more than two centuries the largest empire that ever existed in human history.
The Autumn: as we moved North to reach the Hovsgol lake, we had to pass through a range of mountains. The weather turned rainy, grey and cold as if we were on a November day in Europe. Crossing rivers started to became a concern and mud appeared on all trails. Rain never stopped for 2 days.
The Winter: on the highest pass the rain became snow. On the Zoolongyin pass, we got stuck with our cars for more than 3 hours. Trying to get the cars out of the snow and mud was though. Eventually we did manage to get over.
The Spring again: lake Hovsgol is Mongolian's largest lake and beach holiday place. Here we abandoned the green Mongolian valley to enter the Taiga, the coniferous forest. We are close to the border with Russian Siberia here

North America or North America is a continent in the Americas and considered by many the cultural and geological difference (cratons) a continent of the supercontinent of America lies in the northern hemisphere and almost totally in the western hemisphere. Bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, east to the Atlantic Ocean, on the southeast by the Caribbean Sea, south and west by the Pacific Ocean. It is connected to South America by the narrow land bridge that represents Central America. Called a "man of genius" by his close friend Thomas Jefferson, John Ledyard lived, by any standard, a remarkable life. In his thirty-eight years, he accompanied Captain Cook on his last voyage; befriended Jefferson, Lafayette, and Tom Paine in Paris; was the first American citizen to see Alaska, Hawaii, and the west coast of America; and set out to find the source of the Niger by traveling from Cairo across the Sahara. His greatest dream, concocted with Jefferson, was to travel alone around the world and cross the American continent from the Pacific Northwest to the Atlantic. Catherine the Great dashed that dream when she had him arrested in deepest Siberia and escorted back to the Polish border. Ledyard wrote the definitive account of Cook's last voyage and his death at the hands of Hawaiian islanders, and formed a company with John Paul Jones that launched the American fur trade in the Pacific Northwest. Before the Revolution, Americans by and large didn't travel great distances, rarely venturing west of the Appalachians. Ledyard, with his boundless enthusiasm and wide-ranging intellect, changed all that. In lively prose, journalist James Zug tells the riveting story of this immensely influential character -a Ben Franklin with wanderlust-a uniquely American pioneer.
