The Treaty of Sèvres (10 August 1920) was one of a series of that the nations that constituted the Central Powers were made to sign subsequent to their defeat that marked the end of World War I. It was signed on 10 August 1920, which marked the beginning of the partition of, and the ultimate annihilation of, the Ottoman Empire. The harsh terms it stipulated, motivated mainly by the Gallipoli Campaign defeat of the Allied powers at the hands of the Turks, included the renunciation of all non-Turkish land that was part of the Ottoman Empire, as well as parts of Turkish land, to the Allied powers. Notably, Eastern Mediterranean land was to be divided, yielding, amongst others, the British Mandate of Palestine and the French Mandate of Syria. The terms of the treaty brewed hostility and nationalistic feeling amongst Turks. The signatories of the treaty, themselves representatives of the Ottoman Empire, were stripped of their citizenship by the Grand National Assembly led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and the treaty ultimately led to the Turkish War of Independence, when a new treaty, the Treaty of Lausanne was accepted by Atatürk and Turkish nationalists, and which effectively brought into being the modern day republic of Turkey.
The Treaty of Versailles was signed with the German Empire before this treaty to annul German concessions including economic rights and enterprises in the Ottoman sphere. Also, France, Great Britain and Italy signed a secret "Tripartite Agreement" at the same date. The Tripartite Agreement confirmed Britain's oil and commercial concessions and turned the former German enterprises in the Ottoman Empire over to a Tripartite corporation. The terms of the Treaty of Sèvres were far more severe than those imposed on the German Empire in the Treaty of Versailles. The open negotiations covered a period of more than fifteen months, beginning at the Paris Peace Conference. The negotiations continued at the Conference of London, and took definite shape only after the premiers' meeting at the San Remo conference in April 1920. France, Italy, and Great Britain, however, had secretly begun the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire as early as 1915. The delay occurred because the powers could not come to an agreement which, in turn, hinged on the outcome of the Turkish national movement. The Treaty of Sèvres was annulled in the course of the Turkish War of Independence and the parties signed and ratified the superseding Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 and 1924.
The representatives signed the treaty in an exhibition room at the famous porcelain factory in Sèvres, France.
The treaty had four signatories for the Ottoman Empire: Rıza Tevfik, the grand vizier Damat Ferid Pasha, ambassador Hadi Pasha, and the minister of education Reşid Halis, who were endorsed by Sultan Mehmed VI.
Of the Principal Allied powers it excluded the United States. Russia was also excluded because it had negotiated the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with the Ottoman Empire in 1918. In that treaty, at the insistence of the Grand Vizier Talat Pasha, the Ottoman Empire regained the lands Russia had captured in the Russo-Turkish War (1877–1878), specifically Ardahan, Kars, and Batumi. Sir George Dixon Grahame signed for Great Britain, Alexandre Millerand for France, and Count Lelio Bonin Longare for Italy.
Among the other Allied powers, Greece did not accept the borders as drawn and never ratified it. Avetis Aharonian, the President of the Delegation of the First Republic of Armenia, which also signed the Treaty of Batum on 4 June 1918, was a signatory of this treaty.
The leaders of France, Britain, and the United States had stated their differing objectives with respect to the Ottoman Empire during the Paris Peace Conference, 1919. The common theme was the sick man of Europe had come to his own end. However, it was a shock to the world when the treaty said the Allies were in agreement keeping the Ottoman Government of Istanbul, which remained the capital of the Ottoman Empire, though with the reservations of the conditions of the treaty. The treaty called for the expulsion of the Ottoman Empire from Europe. The treaty imposed terms so severe that British policy seemed to have succeeded in strangling the sick man of Europe in his sick-bed in Asia Minor.

Create-A-(Virtual)-Plate in Sèvres, France!
The first Sunday of every month, a "heritage day" in France, I like to go somewhere which normally charges admission and which may or may not really interest me. The temporary exhibition floor was closed today but I stayed for about three hours on two enormous floors of the permanent exhibits, and here I enjoyed a second stab at an interactive "create" learning display.

The first Sunday of every month, a "heritage day" in France, I like to go somewhere which normally charges admission and which may or may not really interest me. Although I learned some ceramics basics while studying fine art, I did not pursue that. Like many women, however, and some men, too, I do like things made of glass, porcelain, pottery and so on. The temporary exhibition floor was closed today but I stayed for about three hours on two enormous floors of the permanent exhibits, and here I enjoyed a second stab at an interactive "create" learning display.
This is adjacent to working ateliers which still advertise regularly to hire serious young artisans to carry on the ceramics tradition in Sèvres, France, which is just across the River Seine from Paris (sort of). You can take the tramway two (T2) all the way to this museum.
I made many clips here today, which will be posted on either of my two YouTube channels and Dailymotion before I head to a city often associated with Vincent van Gogh, Arles, and a place called Dauphin (I think) for more exploration into Provence, France.
You can learn here, as there are ateliers. Whether you are "serious" in studies or just want to have some creative fun, if you can commit some time, you can be trained here. Start by trying www.sevresciteceramique.fr.
They encourage groups and families with children to attend the collections AND the workshops. They do have documentation here in other languages and are most welcoming. visite@sevresciteceramique.fr for your e-mail inquiries.
Videos and photos are permitted here.
You can see the workers during the week here of course and just observe.

Going to a movie in an IMAX theater is a special treat, what with the giant picture and great sound. Now, audio systems developer Dolby is looking to take on IMAX in the big screen game.
Their angle: improved picture quality, and they call it Dolby Vision. If you’re familiar with the “HDR” – or high dynamic range – setting on your cell phone camera, that’s basically what Dolby is looking to do with movies. HDR greatly improves image contrast, brightness and detail, and Dolby is opening a single theater in the Netherlands that will feature their improved imaging system. From there, they hope to expand and take on IMAX, of course, and put HDR in TVs as well.
The IMAX folks aren’t standing idly by, however, and are reportedly working on their own system to improve image quality.

wn.com/Ultimate Barn Find, Dolby For Your Eyes, Athlete Gift Guide Dt Daily (Dec 10)
Roger Baillon loved cars. He had money, he had space, and he had a dream of building a museum for his favorites. But sadly, the last element of his vision never came true in his lifetime.
Instead, Roger’s many cars, which included Ferraris, Buggattis, Maseratis and many more exotics, sat is dank garages and hap-hazard sheds on his vast property in France, slowly rotting away for the last 50-odd years. The massive stash, truly the barn find to end all barn finds, is now in the process or recovery, but sadly, many of the once grand machines are so decrepit they are beyond salvation.
The salvageable cars will go to auction, and one, a 1961 Ferrari – it’s under all those stacks of magazines on the left – is expected to fetch more than $15 million alone.
