The Ring of Fire a long chain of volcanoes and other tectonically active structures that surround the Pacific Ocean. More than 450 active and dormant volcanoes are located within the Ring. Many of these volcanoes were created through the tectonic process of subduction whereby dense ocean plates collide with and slide under lighter continental plates.

There is a lot of cool statistical data connected to this unusual formation of active volcanoes.
The Ring of Fire or circum-Pacific belt is a place where:
- over 90% of the world's earthquakes occur;
- most all of the biggest volcano eruptions have happened in the
last 11,7 thousand years (22 out of top 25 eruptions);
- ~452 volcanoes, including the most dangerous, are located.
If you would like to check out other scientific facts about volcanoes, please check out this interactive video presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74_E6S5AWqI
We have put together a top 10 list of best volcano facts and here is a brief review of some of them:
- what is understood by the Pele’s hair and tears?
- Etna – volcano with the most documented eruptions;
- Iceland – the incredible land of fire and ice;
- Paricutin as the fastest growing volcano;

The Depths Below: Ring of Fire
Orange and red flashes in the pitch black. Lava oozes from the cracks, and rolls across the ocean floor. Earthquakes rumble and roar as tectonic plates grate against each other.
We're at the rim of the Pacific Basin. Because it is one of the most geologically active places on Earth, scientists have nicknamed the area, "The Ring of Fire." The movement of tectonic plates has created a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches and chains of volcanoes stretching for twenty-five thousand miles.
The Ring of Fire is home to hundreds of volcanoes. But most remain hidden far below the water's surface. In fact, 75% of all volcanic activity on the Earth happens in the ocean. But the effects of all this activity aren't felt only in the Pacific Basin. Earth's ocean and geology are global, interconnected systems that can affect us all.
Tsunamis can be generated by underwater earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or landslides. And, as we have seen, their impacts can be devastating. Undersea volcanoes produce chemicals and heat that affect the ocean environment. We need to better understand these "natural" inputs as we increasingly introduce our own with manmade pollutants.
We've only recently begun to explore the hundreds of volcanoes rising from the ocean floor that make up the Ring of Fire. Over the last few decades, several expeditions to the western Pacific basin have been conducted. Using the latest mapping and robotic instruments, researchers have learned more about the geologic activity at these sites and the marine life that thrives on hydrothermal vent systems.
But learning new things often leads to more questions, which means there's still a whole lot more left for us to discover.

The 'Ring Of Fire Is Shaking Violently' - Massive Uptick In Earthquakes And Volcano Eruptions
The 'Ring Of Fire Is Shaking Violently' - Massive Uptick In Earthquakes And Volcano Eruptions - Earth 'Is Becoming Increasingly Unstable'
Massive uptick In earthquakes And volcano eruptions occurred between May 9, 2015 to May 15, 2015, surrounding the "Ring of Fire," which is where about 90%of the world's earthquakes and 81% of the world's largest earthquakes occur, according to Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_of_Fire
Not only is there tremendous earthquake activity shaking the earth in these locations, but according to The Economic Collapse Blog, using information obtained from Volcano Discovery, 40 volcanoes around the globe are erupting right now, and 34 of them are along the Ring of Fire. To give context to what this means, they explain "there were a total of 3,542 volcanic eruptions during the entire 20th century. When you divide that number by 100, that gives you an average of about 35 volcanic eruptions per year. So the number of volcanoes that are erupting right now is well above the 20th century’s average for an entire calendar year."
This escalation of activity, specifically surrounding the Ring of Fire, which has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes spanning 25,000 miles in a horseshoe shape, leads Michael Snyder from the Economic Collapse Blog to state "the Ring of Fire is shaking violently," and Earth "is becoming increasingly unstable."
