Lake Huron (French: Lac Huron) is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. Hydrologically, it comprises the larger portion of Lake Michigan–Huron. It is bounded on the east by the Canadian province of Ontario and on the west by the state of Michigan in the United States. The name of the lake is derived from early French explorers who named it for the Huron people inhabiting the region.
Lake Huron is the second-largest of the Great Lakes, with a surface area of 23,000 square miles (59,600 km2) making it the third-largest fresh-water lake on Earth (and the fourth-largest lake, if the Caspian Sea is counted as a lake). When measured at the Low Water Datum, the lake contains a volume of 850 cubic miles (3,540 km3) and a shoreline length (including islands) of 3,827 miles (6,157 km).
The surface of Lake Huron is 577 feet (176 m) above sea level. The lake's average depth is 195 feet (59 m), while the maximum depth is 750 feet (229 m). It has a length of 206 miles (332 km) and a greatest breadth of 183 miles (295 km).

While there are no native steelhead to Lake Huron, there's an abundance of wild populations that thrive in this clear, clean Great Lake. There's an endless number of tributaries that pour into Lake Huron and most have steelhead. We ventured into Canada in the winter and met up with local expert Josh Choronzey to film Pautzke Outdoors and fish a few tributaries on the Bruce Peninsula out of Owen Sound, Ontario, and found willing biters even in the frigid temperatures. We used Pautzke BorX O Fire cured steelhead eggs exclusively on the trip, Choronzey's favorite steelhead bait on the Great Lakes. -

Here we get another bitter cold night with a low of -16 degrees again. Traverse City had -28. As the prior videos have depicted, the ice is pretty thick. Today I thought I may walk out further toward the frozen ice formations. When I got to Tawas Point State Park there was open water maybe a quarter of a mile off shore. Go figure. Open water was to the south and northeast before. You can't here it on the audio very well because of the wind, but the ice was really making noise today. I find it interesting how I could see the sand on the beach below 18 inches of pretty clear ice. Another beautiful day on Lake Huron. *** The thumbnail is of the

While there are no native steelhead to Lake Huron, there's an abundance of wild populations that thrive in this clear, clean Great Lake. There's an endless number of tributaries that pour into Lake Huron and most have steelhead.
We ventured into Canada in the winter and met up with local expert Josh Choronzey to film Pautzke Outdoors and fish a few tributaries on the Bruce Peninsula out of Owen Sound, Ontario, and found willing biters even in the frigid temperatures. We used Pautzke BorX O Fire cured steelhead eggs exclusively on the trip, Choronzey's favorite steelhead bait on the Great Lakes.

Here we get another bitter cold night with a low of -16 degrees again. Traverse City had -28. As the prior videos have depicted, the ice is pretty thick. Today I thought I may walk out further toward the frozen ice formations. When I got to Tawas Point State Park there was open water maybe a quarter of a mile off shore. Go figure. Open water was to the south and northeast before. You can't here it on the audio very well because of the wind, but the ice was really making noise today. I find it interesting how I could see the sand on the beach below 18 inches of pretty clear ice. Another beautiful day on Lake Huron.
