Computing is the activity of using computer hardware and software.
Computing Curricula 2005 defined "computing" as:
"In a general way, we can define computing to mean any goal-oriented activity requiring, benefiting from, or creating computers. Thus, computing includes designing and building hardware and software systems for a wide range of purposes; processing, structuring, and managing various kinds of information; doing scientific studies using computers; making computer systems behave intelligently; creating and using communications and entertainment media; finding and gathering information relevant to any particular purpose, and so on. The list is virtually endless, and the possibilities are vast."
The term "computing" has sometimes been narrowly defined, as in a 1989 ACM report on Computing as a Discipline:
The discipline of computing is the systematic study of algorithmic processes that describe and transform information: their theory, analysis, design, efficiency, implementation, and application. The fundamental question underlying all computing is "What can be (efficiently) automated?"

Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter, film director, and a director of Norwich City Football Club.
After a troubled childhood and adolescence, during which he was expelled from a number of schools and eventually spent three months in prison for credit card fraud, he was able to secure a place at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he studied English Literature.
He first came to public attention in the 1981 Cambridge Footlights Revue presentation "The Cellar Tapes", which also included Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and Tony Slattery. With Hugh Laurie, as the comedy double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry & Laurie, and took the role of Jeeves (with Laurie playing Wooster) in Jeeves and Wooster.
As an actor, Fry played the lead in the film Wilde, was Melchett in the BBC television series Blackadder, starred as the title character Peter Kingdom in the ITV series Kingdom, has a recurring guest role as Dr. Gordon Wyatt on the Fox crime series Bones and appeared as rogue TV host Gordon Deitrich in the dystopian thriller V For Vendetta. He has also written and presented several documentary series including the 2008 television series Stephen Fry in America, which saw him travelling across all 50 US states. Since 2003 he has been the host of the quiz show QI.

Introduction
Cloud Computing is a design philosophy that breaks the Operating System and Applications from the Hardware
Web Applications
Are Created in Web Programming Languages
Generally Use Databases to Store Data
Clusters
Are Generally Used for Database Servers (MySQL, Microsoft Active Directory)
Load is balanced between servers in a cluster. If one server fails the cluster responds by not sending traffic to it.
Servers maintain the same data by using replication
Terminal Services
Based off of old Mainframe and Dumb Terminal Architecture
Now You Use Terminal Services Servers and Thin Clients
Thin Clients can be Hardware Devices or Software installed on a computer
All processing happens on Terminal Services Server and the Thin Client simply gets a "Window" into the server.

Application Servers
Uses Terminal Services but instead of providing a full Environment it only delivers a specific Application.
Virtualization
Uses Desktop Clients Software or Hypervisors to allow you to install multiple Operating Systems on to one physical server.
Hypervisors
i. Hypervisor is installed on the physical hardware to support the Operating Systems, and Management Software is used to configure each Virtual Machine, or Instance.
ii. VMWare uses ESXi as the Hypervisor and vSphere for the Management Software
Hosted Instances
Examples: Amazon EC2 , Microsft Azure
You Pay for Use (Storage Amount, CPU Power, RAM, Bandwidth)
Edge Locations are used by some providers to allow for faster access to servers over the Internet. You may be charged to send data from the main servers to the Edge Servers

The workflow starts with the segmentation of the Prosthesis (without the Acetabular component), the Femur (including the Prosthesis) and the tissue of the Hip. A combination of manual and automatic segmentation tools is used to perform the segmentation tasks. These segmentation masks are then used to compute the BMD Map of the femur.
With GIMIAS, the resulting BMD Map can be visualized in different ways, the BMD values of each pixel of the map can be explored and the range of BMD values can be easily displayed.
All images and segmentation masks can be saved for later use or for sharing with other users.

The video shows a GIMIAS workflow designed to compute the BMD (Bone Mineral Density) map of a femur, out of a DXA image acquired using a fan-beam densitometer Hologic (TM) Discovery scanner. The DXA image belongs to a previously reported randomized trial of bisphosphonate therapy after total hip arthroplasty.
The input file contains 6 sub-images; each related to the attenuation of High and Low X-Ray for soft tissue, bone, and air. After loading the image, one of the sub-images is used to compute the BMD map. What can we learn by using this metaphor of chemistry in our programming? We will answer this question by looking at Artificial Chemical Computing. Building programs based on molecules and chemical reactions, we will explore new ways of thinking and opening ourselves up to innovation. We will discuss the basics of Chemical Programming and even touch on High Order Chemical Programming as well. Code examples will be in the powerful, elegant, and interactive programming language of Clojure, but you will not need to be an expert in the language to enjoy the demos. Come and join us for this adventure in looking at the programming world from a different perspective.

I’m glad most states have laws now against texting and driving. Our roadways are dangerous already. What I want to know is, why do our law enforcement officers drive around with one eye on the open laptop computers they have in the front seat?. Surely, those big screens are just as distracting as a smartphone. Maybe even more so. ....
