The Philharmonia Orchestra is one of the leading orchestras in Great Britain, based in London. Since 1995, it has been based in the Royal Festival Hall. In Britain it is also the resident orchestra at De Montfort Hall, Leicester and the Corn Exchange, Bedford, as well as The Anvil, Basingstoke. In addition to its concerts in the UK, the Philharmonia undertakes substantial touring activity worldwide.
Esa-Pekka Salonen is the orchestra's principal conductor and artistic advisor.
The orchestra was founded in 1945 by Walter Legge. Jayachamaraja Wodeyar Bahadur Maharaja of Mysore was the founder president. As Legge was a recording producer for EMI it was widely believed that the orchestra was primarily formed for recording purposes, but that was not Legge's intention. He had been Sir Thomas Beecham's assistant at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, before World War II, and, assuming that he and Beecham would be in charge there again after the war, Legge planned to establish a first-class orchestra for opera, concerts and recordings. After the war, opera resumed at Covent Garden under a different management, but Legge went ahead with his plans for a new orchestra. His contacts in the musical world during the war enabled him to secure the services of a large number of talented young musicians still serving in the armed forces in 1945. At the Philharmonia's first concert on 25 October 1945, more than sixty per cent of the players were still officially in the services. Beecham conducted the concert (for the fee of one cigar) but as he refused to be Legge's employee and Legge refused to cede control of the orchestra, Beecham instead went on to found the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Meet members of the orchestra, and experience their passion for the music they play and the special instruments they use to travel back in time.
1. Music in Motion: Always Changing (6:10)
Music is an expression of the time and place in which it was first created. What gives music from the baroque period in Europe (1600-1750 CE) its distinctive sound? Why is it still worth listening to today? Musicians from the orchestra talk about why they find it so moving.
2. "Period" Instruments: The Original Sound (13:30)
Musicians in Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra play on period instruments - instruments that were made during the periods in which the music was composed, or their replicas. Learn how these instruments create a sound like the one a person living in that time would have heard.
3. Working Together: Rehearsals (9:20)
Making this sound come alive requires preparation and collaboration. Hear how the musicians work with the conductor in the rehearsal process to create a concert performance and make the music come alive.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra or Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) is a London Symphony Orchestra sometimes called "Britain's National Orchestra." Founded in 1946 by the conductor Thomas Beecham, the first concert was held in Croydon September 15, 1946. Beecham becomes principal conductor until his death in 1961. He was replaced by his assistant Rudolf Kempe which will then appointed head for life in 1970. Big names like Antal Doráti, André Previn and Vladimir Ashkenazy has provided musical direction for the orchestra before Daniele Gatti resumes the position since 1996. Presto The "Linz" Symphony, which opens the series of Mozart's five great final symphonies, certainly shows no signs of haste. It is especially concisely worked out. The first Vienna performance was in spring of 1783 and the work was probably performed once more in Mozart's lifetime, in 1787 in Prague. Carlos Kleiber's reputation as a great conductor is undeniably confirmed in this performance even as we consider the size of the non-period orchestra. He has full control, timing and tempo without over modulating his whole persona in front of the orchestra...a truly great conductor! -

Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful performance(s). And stop complaining about the FPS (mostly COD)'s soundtrack. It's the music, not the game. The music is awesome.

The "Linz" Symphony, which opens the series of Mozart's five great final symphonies, certainly shows no signs of haste. It is especially concisely worked out. The first Vienna performance was in spring of 1783 and the work was probably performed once more in Mozart's lifetime, in 1787 in Prague.
Carlos Kleiber's reputation as a great conductor is undeniably confirmed in this performance even as we consider the size of the non-period orchestra. He has full control, timing and tempo without over modulating his whole persona in front of the orchestra...a truly great conductor!
