A Road To Paradise- Sea Cliff Bridge, New South Wales, Australia
A Road To Paradise- Sea Cliff Bridge, New South Wales, Australia
The Sea Cliff Bridge is a balanced cantilever bridge located in the northern Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The $52 million bridge links the coastal villages of Coalcliff and Clifton. Featuring two lanes of traffic, a cycleway and a walkway, the Sea Cliff Bridge boasts spectacular views and is a feature of the scenic Lawrence Hargrave Drive.
The Sea Cliff Bridge replaced a section of Lawrence Hargrave Drive that was permanently closed in August 2003 due to regular rock falls. A public outcry emerged over the road closure as Lawrence Hargrave Drive is the only road directly linking Coalcliff, Stanwell Park, Otford and Helensburgh to the northern suburbs of Wollongong. The bridge was officially opened by NSW Premier Morris Iemma at a 'ribbon cutting' ceremony on 11 December 2005, and has met with great public approval and increased business for the area's tourism industry.
The Sea Cliff Bridge was named by 11 Year old schoolgirl Makenzie Russell (St. Brigids)] following a naming competition opened to local primary school students.
It is a popular location for Love padlocks.
The Sea Cliff Bridge is one of only seven off-shore parallel to coast bridges in the world.
Award-winning, off-shore and parallel-to-coast Sea Cliff Bridge forms part of the Grand Pacific Drive and is located on scenic Lawrence Hargrave Drive, 60 kms south from central Sydney (or 23 kms north of Wollongong). It was opened on December 11, 2005, at a total cost of A$52 million.
The Bridge provides road, pedestrian and cycleway access it's entire length (665 metres) and spectacular views. Like the Bridge, Grand Pacific Drive never loses sight of the sea. It hugs the coast between the high battlements of the Illawarra Escarpment, looming like the great wall of a lost world, and the vastness of the Tasman Sea, an ocean view so wide you can see the curve of the Earth. Looking south, the "Coast with the Most" is scalloped with bays, and world class surf beaches all the way to Wollongong and beyond.
Why was it constructed? In August 2003, a large embankment slip indefinitely closed Lawrence Hargrave Drive between Coalcliff and Clifton, a stretch of road area notorious for rock falls and closures.
But community protest at this closure was fierce, and a permanent fix was demanded from the NSW Government. Over two years later, Sea Cliff Bridge provided that fix, and the road reopened, finally Bridging the Cliff and the Sea and Community.

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia http://bit.ly/1dQC20q
Transport in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Public transport:
Sydney's public transport system is well developed, efficient and cheap. The Transport Infoline provides route, timetable and fare information for all buses, ferries and trains.
State Transit operates Sydney's buses. Sydney Ferries runs the commuter ferry network that criss-crosses Sydney Harbour. CityRail operates the network of trains between the suburbs and the city.
Numerous money-saving passes are available, including the SydneyPass , which allows unlimited travel on public buses, harbour ferries, the Sydney Explorer bus and the Bondi Explorer bus.
The colour-coded TravelPass, valid for one week or more, allows unlimited travel on public transport within a designated area. A DayTripper pass is valid for travel on all regular buses, ferries and metropolitan area trains. A TravelTen bus pass is valid for 10 bus journeys. A FerryTen ticket is valid for 10 ferry trips.
Taxis:
Taxis run on meters, with a 20% surcharge added between 2200-0600. Tipping is not expected, although fares are generally rounded up to the nearest dollar. Operators include Taxis Combined Services and Premier Cabs
Driving:
Sydney drivers are renowned for their speed and intolerance and parking is invariably difficult and/or expensive. Also, many of Sydney's motorways are tolled and most of them are fully electronic; you will have to arrange a pass before or shortly after your trip - see www.rta.nsw.gov.au for details.
Car hire:
The minimum age for hiring a car is often 25 years. Minimum third-party insurance is required.
Bicycle hire:
Sydney's many steep hills make cycling a challenge. Manly has better paths for cycling but best of all is the popular Centennial Park.

Dan Biggar - Australia defeat won't affect Wales vs South Africa Rugby World Cup 2015 quarter-final
Wales fly-half Dan Biggar says a 15-6 defeat to Australia at Twickenham in their final Pool A match will not adversely affect squad confidence, ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2015 quarter-final clash against South Africa at Twickenham next Saturday.
Biggar praised the defence shown by both sides as Wales and Australia shared a try-less match, admitted frustration at not taking advantage of the Wallabies having 13 men for a period of time and said the Welsh squad are taking belief from having beaten the Springboks in their last two meetings.

Australia 15 Wales 6 Rugby World Cup 2015 was 'epic' and 'brutal': Analysis with Oliver Hoult
Australia defeated Wales 15-6 to top Pool A, securing a quarter-final against Scotland at Twickenham next Sunday, whilst the Welsh will face South Africa on the Saturday. Rugby writer Oliver Hoult provides analysis on a gruelling tryless Test match, with scoring only in penalties from Bernard Foley for the Wallabies and Dan Biggar for the Welsh. Particular scrutiny is given to an extrodinary passage of play where Australia somehow did not conceded despite having 13 men on the field for 8 minutes, after two yellows cards in quick succession, these being for Will Genia and Dean Mumm.

Australia weathered a Welsh storm to win World Cup Pool A with a 15-6 victory at Twickenham.
Wales paid a high price for failing to make their extra numbers count when the Wallabies were reduced to 13 men for seven minutes in the second half.
Fly-half Bernard Foley kicked all Australia's points, with Dan Bigger twice on target for Wales.
Australia now face Scotland in the quarter-final on 18 October, with Wales against South Africa the day before.
It was Wales' 11th consecutive defeat against the Australians, a run going back to 2008.
Wales coach Warren Gatland's men had their chances but were repelle

Rugby World Cup 2015 Australia 15 6 Wales
Rugby World Cup 2015 Australia 15-6 Wales
Australia weathered a Welsh storm to win World Cup Pool A with a 15-6 victory at Twickenham.
Wales paid a high price for failing to make their extra numbers count when the Wallabies were reduced to 13 men for seven minutes in the second half.
Fly-half Bernard Foley kicked all Australia's points, with Dan Bigger twice on target for Wales.
Australia now face Scotland in the quarter-final on 18 October, with Wales against South Africa the day before.
It was Wales' 11th consecutive defeat against the Australians, a run going back to 2008.
Wales coach Warren Gatland's men had their chances but were repelled by some extraordinary defence, with number eight Taulupe Faletau dropping the ball inches from the line and George North at centre held up over the line by Wallabies back-row Ben McCalman.
In the long run of narrow losses to Australia, this will rank among the most frustrating for Gatland.
There was a lack of composure in a 10-minute period around the hour mark, when Australia's battling 13 held firm.
And having seen off the barrage, the Wallabies eventually lifted the siege and were rewarded when Foley's fifth penalty gave his side a two-score cushion with eight minutes remaining.
A cagey opening
Australia stated their intentions in the opening seconds when they opted to take a scrummage from the first penalty of the game deep in their own half.
They almost paid a high price when Gareth Davies sprinted away down the narrow side.
But Biggar's fourth-minute penalty was all Wales had to show for their early pressure.
Two unyielding defences battered anything that moved, with the breakdown a genuine contest and Wales successfully countering the Wallabies' driving maul.
However, as the half wore on and Australia's pack - and scrummage in particular - got on top, the penalty count mounted against the Welsh with Foley profiting.
We have lift-off
The match was a slow burner but it burst into life at the start of the second half.
Australia drove the lineouts with more venom, but Wales took control after the Wallabies incurred the wrath of referee Craig Joubert.
Scrum-half Will Genia had a yellow card for failing to retire 10 metres as his opposite number Gareth Davies took a quick penalty and Genia was followed into the bin when second-row Dean Mumm infringed at a lineout.

Vicious throat stabbing in Lakemba
45-year-old man stabbed in the neck and bleeding heavily after vicious attack.
A second man has been arrested in relation to a fatal stabbing in Sydney's south west overnight.
News South Wales police have apprehended a 24-year-old male, who presented at a Campsie station around 3.30pm today. The Lakemba local is being questioned in relation to the death.
Earlier today, authorities arrested a 48-year-old man, who is expected to be released from custody soon.
A 45-year-old died in an apparent stabbing attack, which police have described as a callous act on a defenceless person.
At around 12.30am on Sunday emergency services were called to Garrong Rd in Lakemba to find an injured man outside a block of units.
Police said the victim's father found him injured at the apartment building where he lived and tried to administer aid, however the man died at the scene.
"What we have been able to establish is that at around 12.30am a 45-year-old male was standing outside talking to a relative. He was approached by another male, a brief discussion occurred and as a result that 45-year-old man was assaulted, receiving neck injuries," NSW Police Detective Superintendent Michael McLean said.
It's understood the attacker was in possession of a bottle, police said.
At around 9:30am this morning heavily armed police executed warrants at three premises at Lakemba in relation to the death, which police are treating as suspicious.
Detective Supt McLean told media the region enforcement squad was utilised as a result of a risk assessment of the history of the premises, which identified that it was appropriate for police to be heavily armed.
It's believed the victim's two teenage children were inside at the time of the attack.
Detective Supt McLean said there is nothing which would suggest the victim provoked the attacker.
"There was no provocation whatsoever that our investigation suggests," Detective Supt McLean said.
"The incident occurred within seconds of the first encounter."
Police described the man's death as senseless, unnecessary and the result of a malicious attack.
A neighbour told News Corp that incidents occur often at the residence where the man was found dead.
“There are always brawls in that building,” he said.
Another neighbour, in his 60s, said he hadn't seen any incidents like this in the area in over a decade.
“I’ve been here 11 years in this street. You see the police sometimes pass by but we’ve never heard anyone screaming or a bashing, we’re very happy with this street,” he said.
“These days every street you go, doesn’t matter what area you go, sometimes there’s people dealing drugs and strange people.”
Police are treating the death as suspicious.
“This is absolutely heartbreaking for the man’s family," Detective Supt McLean said.
"They have requested privacy at this time as they try to come to terms with the death of their husband."
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers

The South Wales Rail Explore (16th August 2014)
This journey takes me along the South of Wales stopping at a few station, the journey starts at my base, Newport (South Wales) when a pair of Mendip Rail Class 59s pass through running late and then I boarded the Hereford to Barry service, worked by a Arriva Trains Wales Class 150.
At Cardiff Central I got off the Class 150 and change trains onto two class 153s which were working a Cardiff Central to Swansea service as soon as I get to Swansea, I start filming at this terminus station, after roughly an hour, I boarded a First Great Western service to London Paddington worked by Class 43 HSTs and travel the South Wales Main Line including a look at Margam next to Port Talbot Parkway station.
The next stop is Bridgend and filmed some trains there for an hour including some Class 66s, an hour later I board a Class 15 with one of the Class 153s which I rode on to Swansea earlier, this was a Fishguard Harbour service so people can catch the boat to Ireland, just like they did in the Great Western Railways days.
This service avoids Swansea and takes me to Llanelli which I've filmed some Arriva Trains Wales DMUs and First Great Western Class 43 HSTs, after an hour, I traveed back to Swansea to board another Class 43 HST to Neath to film at this station, even get a passing HST set which travelling from Bristol Temple Meads to Swansea Landore.
When the hour was up, another HST ride was in order and took me to Port Talbot Parkway, earlier on there was a railway Staff who wasn't fond of Cameras there when I went pass to Bridgend but he was gone when I arrived to film and filmed some more Arriva Trains Wales units, even a Class 142 Pacer working a Swansea to Abergavenny service, more Class 43 HSTs and Class 175 and Class 158s.
After an hour filming, boarded another Class 43 HST to Bridgend but this time was to change trains onto an Arriva Trains Wales Class 158 to Pencoed to film some fast Class 43 HSTs and other Arriva Trains Wales units, this station only gets an hourly service and once the next train arrived, boarded another train to Llanharen to film more Trains speeding through like at Pencoed but this time, DB Schenker Class 66, 66097 speeds through.
An hour later was planning to do Pontyclun but a change of weather decided not to do the station and went back to Cardiff Central and change trains onboard a Class 43 HST to Newport and making use of Coach D, the entertainment Class with no TV working but once I was back at Newport, it was time to end.

The Last South Wales Outing (18th August 2014)
This is part 4 of my South Wales Holiday, we start in Newport (South Wales) first and have an hour filming at the station, then I board a First Great Western Class 150 DMU to Severn Tunnel Junction to film some speeding First Great Western and CrossCountry services with some First Great Western and Arriva Trains Wales services stopping here, freight is also seen with a DB Schenker Class 60 on 6B13 Robertson to Westerleigh and a hired in Colas Class 70, 70803 working a freightliner Intermodal.
After an hour at Severn Tunnel Junction, traveled to Cardiff Central and carried on the line clearance to do the City Line, first went to Coryton and then went to Radyr via Cardiff Central.
At Radyr it was film to film some stations in the Valleys but it was only Class 142, Class 143 and Class 150 with the odd Class 153 DMUs, after an hour at Radyr, I moved up the line to the Treforest Estate to film some speeding Pacers! with some Arriva Trains Wales DMUs stopping there, after an hour was up, I went to Cardiff Queen Street to film some more Arriva Trains Wales DMUs and also had two DB Schenker freight trains passing through.
After an hour at Cardiff Queen Street, it was time for the last stop of this trip, Grangetown to film more Arriva Trains Wales DMUs and a freight train, after the hour was up, it was time to travel to Cardiff Central to board the 1716 1W96 the Arriva Trains Wales Premier service to Holyhead which was worked by Class 67, 67002.
The WAG stopped at Newport, Cwmbran, Pontypool & New Inn, Abergavenny, Hereford and then onto Shrewsbury which I left the service, the WAG carried on to Wrexham General, Chester and then onto the North Wales to Holyhead but at Shrewsbury, the London Midland unit at the station was soon to be my 2117 to Rugeley Trent Valley but had to do Shrewsbury to Birmingham New Street first, so I boarded an Arriva Trains Wales service to Birmingham International worked by a Class 158 but got off at Birmingham New Street to get a bite to eat and then boarded the Class 170 DMU which was seen at Shrewsbury to travel back to Rugeley Town to end the show.
