Colombo (Sinhala: කොළඹ, pronounced [ˈkoləmbə]; Tamil: கொழும்பு) is the largest city of Sri Lanka. It is located on the west coast of the island and adjacent to Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, the capital of Sri Lanka. Colombo is often referred to as the capital of the country, since Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte is a satellite city of Colombo. Colombo is a busy and vibrant city with a mixture of modern life and colonial buildings and ruins and a population of 647,100. The Colombo Metropolitan Region, defined by the districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara, has an estimated population of 5,648,000, and covers an area of 3,694.20 km². As per the Provincial Gross Domestic Product-2010, The Western Province, which includes the cities of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara recorded GDP per capita of USD 3,808, the highest recorded GDP per capita for any region in South Asia. It was formerly the political capital of Sri Lanka, before Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte.
Due to its large harbour and its strategic position along the East-West sea trade routes, Colombo was known to ancient traders 2,000 years ago. It was made the capital of the island when Sri Lanka was ceded to the British Empire in 1815, and its status as capital was retained when the nation became independent in 1948. In 1978, when administrative functions were moved to Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte, Colombo was designated as the commercial capital of Sri Lanka.

Victor-Marie Hugo (French pronunciation: [viktɔʁ maʁi yɡo]) (26 February 1802 – 22 May 1885) was a French poet, playwright, novelist, essayist, visual artist, statesman, human rights activist[citation needed] and exponent of the Romantic movement in France.
In France, Hugo's literary fame comes first from his poetry but also rests upon his novels and his dramatic achievements. Among many volumes of poetry, Les Contemplations and La Légende des siècles stand particularly high in critical esteem, and Hugo is sometimes identified as the greatest French poet. Outside France, his best-known works are the novels Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris (also known in English as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame).
Though a committed royalist when he was young, Hugo's views changed as the decades passed; he became a passionate supporter of republicanism[citation needed], and his work touches upon most of the political and social issues and artistic trends of his time. He is buried in the Panthéon.
Hugo was the third, illegitimate, son of Joseph Léopold Sigisbert Hugo (1774–1828) and Sophie Trébuchet (1772–1821); his brothers were Abel Joseph Hugo (1798–1855) and Eugène Hugo (1800–1837). He was born in 1802 in Besançon (in the region of Franche-Comté) and lived in France for the majority of his life. However, he decided to live in exile as a result of Napoleon III's Coup d'état at the end of 1851.

Lupron manufacturer Abbott/TAP admitted "enlarged thyroid" and "severe bone density loss" warnings in prior Lupron 3.75 mg label. Abbott/TAP maliciously removed these warnings from the 2005 Lupron 3.75 mg label that Karin Klein received. This failure to warn lead to permanent disability, chronic autoimmune thyroid disorder and severe bone density loss for Karin at age 17 in 2005. Karin Klein was deprived of her constitutional rights and human rights, violation of 7th amendment (bill of rights), right to impartial jury trial denied, due process denied. The judge's rulings directly conflict with the U.S. Constitution and prior U.S. Supreme Court Precedence, federal law and other case law. The judge excluded all powerful evidence; it was withheld during trial from the jury and the judge even: objected and argued for Abbott/TAP in front of the jury. The judge tried to discredit Klein's attorneys and experts in front of the jury, and even hindered Klein's attorneys to rebut defense experts false and misleading allegations. The jury was deceived/mislead due to severe obstruction of justice. Klein lost (judgment against victim) due to most outrageous injustice, which needs to be reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court for the sake of patients' rights in America.
The court ordered Karin (disabled victim and daughter of U.S. Army Veteran) to pay evil greedy pharma Abbott/TAP, thousands of dollars extortion money to prevent case dismissal (protection racket mob style). If justice is denied Karin again at the U.S. Supreme Court, she would even owe the perpetrators Abbott/TAP Pharma a nightmare judgment (artificial debts created) after they destroyed her health, future and rights, eliminating all American patients' rights, the worst possible horror scenario for Karin, patients and all Lupron Victims nationwide. 1) Violation of U.S. Constitution; 2) Conflicting With U.S. Supreme Court Precedence and Other Case Law; 3) Failed to Cite Case Law, Omitting the Law; 4) Created False Allegations. Lupron manufacturer Abbott/TAP admitted "enlarged thyroid" and "severe bone density loss" warnings in prior Lupron 3.75 mg label. Abbott/TAP maliciously removed these warnings from the 2005 Lupron 3.75 mg label that Karin Klein received. This failure to warn lead to permanent disability, chronic autoimmune thyroid disorder and severe bone density loss for Karin at age 17 in 2005. Karin Klein was deprived of her constitutional rights and human rights, violation of 7th amendment (bill of rights), right to impartial jury trial denied, due process denied. The judge's rulings directly conflict with the U.S. Constitution and prior U.S. Supreme Court Precedence, federal law and other case law. The judge excluded all powerful evidence; it was withheld during trial from the jury and the judge even: objected and argued for Abbott/TAP in front of the jury. The judge tried to discredit Klein's attorneys and experts in front of the jury, and even hindered Klein's attorneys to rebut defense experts false and misleading allegations. The jury was deceived/mislead due to severe obstruction of justice. Klein lost (judgment against victim) due to most outrageous injustice, which needs to be reversed by the U.S. Supreme Court for the sake of patients' rights in America.
The court ordered Karin (disabled victim and daughter of U.S. Army Veteran) to pay evil greedy pharma Abbott/TAP, thousands of dollars extortion money to prevent case dismissal (protection racket mob style). If justice is denied Karin again at the U.S. Supreme Court, she would even owe the perpetrators Abbott/TAP Pharma a nightmare judgment (artificial debts created) after they destroyed her health, future and rights, eliminating all American patients' rights, the worst possible horror scenario for Karin, patients and all Lupron Victims nationwide. Surrounded by the deep blue of the Indian Ocean lies a beautiful, fairytale-like island south east of the coast of India. In recent decades this island has developed into a popular tourist destination that attracts people from all over the world. Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka, has a splendid mixture of both western and eastern influences and, along with its many old and modern buildings, never fails to surprise. Modern skyscrapers highlight the city’s flourishing new economy and with approximately five hundred thousand inhabitants Colombo is the largest city in Sri Lanka. As with the country itself Colombo is influenced by a multicultural society that is dominated by its Singhalese population. Along the road from Colombo to Kandy is an elephants’ orphanage that currently tends to the needs of around eighty animals. Most of the parents of the young elephants were shot and killed by ruthless poachers while others were ignored by their mother and left to fend for themselves in Sri Lanka’s forests. The regime of an elephant school usually consists of teaching the elephants to march in line and in pairs as well as teaching them how to move, carry and stack timber. Sri Lanka is one of the world’s main producers of tea. The reason for its success lies in the exceptional quality of its tea. Ceylon tea is a fine, dark tea that has today become a popular ingredient in many different blends. Some areas on Sri Lanka’s eastern coast were devastated by the horrific Tsunami tragedy of December 2004. It will take a considerable amount of time for the people there to recover from the effects of the TSUNAMI disaster and for their villages to return to a semblance of normality. A massive reconstruction programme is now underway. The openness and hospitality of the people allied with the country’s natural splendour and impressive cultural diversity make Sri Lanka one of the most amazing island paradises on Earth!

We’ve arrived in Sri Lanka, and after spending a few crazy days in Colombo, we’re now down in the beautiful beach town of Hikkaduwa where we’ve spent the last few days surfing, relaxing and enjoying the amazing lifestyle here. The beaches are beautiful, the nature’s amazing. You could really spend months just hanging around here. However, we’ve only got three weeks to see the whole country, so tomorrow we’re heading off to Galle, one of the best examples of fortified cities built by Europeans in South and Southeast Asia. Walking around Galle, you can really see the influence Europeans had on the city. There’s Dutch, Portuguese, and British architecture everywhere. You can also find cute little tea houses, art galleries mixed with traditional Asian culture. We’re up nice and early and took a tuk tuk ride from Galle to Unawatuna, which is one of the most famous and beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka. We’re going to have a look around and then have some breakfast by the beach.
We’ve arrived in Ella, a cute little town up in the Sri Lankan Hill Country. It’s really beautiful here. It’s green, it’s lush, it’s absolutely amazing. We’re right in the middle of a tea plantation, and the best thing to go do here is to go trekking and enjoy these amazing views that you see behind me. We’re in Nuwara Eliya, an area in the Hill Country of Sri Lanka also known as Little Britain because of its typical British climate and British architecture. It’s a very popular place for Sri Lankans to visit during the holidays to get away from the heat. And one of the most popular things to do here is to walk among the tea plantations and, of course, drink some tea. We’ve arrived at Summit of Adam’s Peak. I’m absolutely freezing. We started 2 o’clock this morning, and it was pretty hard work to get to the top here. But it’s really, really beautiful up here now. We just missed the sunrise because it was cloudy, but the clouds are clearing now and you can get a really nice view down to the valley. It’s pretty amazing how high up we are. It’s also pretty incredible how many people are coming up here in the morning. It was absolutely packed, about a thousand of us walking really slow up these really, really steep stairs. It was pretty amazing, but it’s also pretty cold, so we’re going to head back down and head to Kandy next.
Well we survived Adam’s Peak, and after a few days rest, we arrived in Kandy which is the spiritual and cultural capital of Sri Lanka. It was the last place to be conquered by the British, and because of that, they preserved a lot of their traditions and culture. So we’re going to have a look around town, explore the streets, the markets and the beautiful nature, which is right in the middle of town. So we’re finishing up our trip in Negombo, a fishing village by the airport. We had a really amazing trip in Sri Lanka. The nature’s been absolutely beautiful, the beach has been incredible, and the people are really, really friendly and really welcoming. So many things to see, so many things to do. We’re definitely going to have to come back here again. But tomorrow, we’re off to Malaysia.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is an orphanage, nursery and captive breeding ground for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village, 13 km (8.1 mi) northwest of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala is notable for having the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2011, there were 88 elephants, including 37 males and 51 females from 3 generations, living in Pinnawala.
The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to many of the orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC).
Elephant care

The orphanage was established to feed, nurse and house young elephants found abandoned by their mothers. Young elephants sometimes fall into pits and ravines in their quest for water during drought period. Other orphans have been displaced from their wild habitat by development projects or have been found abandoned before weaning, diseased or wounded.
There are 48 mahouts (handlers) who take care of the elephants. The female and young elephants in Pinnawala range freely as a herd during the day in an area of a few acres. They are herded about .5 km (0.31 mi) twice a day to drink and be bathed in the river. At night, the females are individually chained in stalls. Adult males are do some light work such as transporting feed. They are chained and managed individually. Calves born in Pinnawala are not bottle fed, but a few from ETH are kept at Pinnawala and bottle fed as a tourist attraction.
The elephants are fed in their stalls. There is very little food they can gather from the premises of the orphanage except some grass. Large quantities of jackfruit, coconut, kitul (sugar palm), tamarind and grass, brought in daily, form the bulk of the elephants food.[5] Each adult animal is given around 250 kilograms (550 lb) of this green matter per day and around 2 kg (4.4 lb) from a food bag containing rice bran and maize.

The glory of medieval Sri Lanka is seen at Polonnaruwa, the mediaeval capital of the Island. An ancient and compact city, Polonnaruwa features 12th-century stone sculptures and the Gal Vihara – comprising three enormous Buddha figures, one reclining (it’s 13 m long), one standing and one sitting. The statues, located in a cluster along a dirt road, are revered as being amongst the most sacred monuments in Sri Lanka. There are also palace ruins, great bas-reliefs and friezes.
Kandy
The Hill Capital of Kandy was the last bastion of the Sinhala kings and is a charming city offering a living record of a magnificent past and is set around an attractive man-made lake in scenic hill country. It is also the site of Sri Lanka’s greatest annual spectacle, the Esala Perahera festival in August, also known as the Festival of the Moon when thousands of people from all parts of the country and from foreign countries throng to the Hill Capital to witness the magnificent spectacle.
Sigiriya
Located atop a rock plateau overlooking verdant jungle and a vast plain is Sigiriya, the mysterious remains of the 5th-century fortress of King Kasyapa. These ruins of Sigiriya are the most unique of the ancient sites in Sri Lanka. Be sure to brave the rickety-looking spiral staircase to see the awesome 1500-year old painted frescoes located beneath an overhang about 90m up the rock. This archaeological site, unparalleled in South Asia, is a place of pilgrimage for Sri Lankans and has been declared a World Heritage Site.
Nuwara Eliya
Sri Lanka’s cool hill country offers a welcome antidote to the heat of the coast and low-lying plains. Situated amongst verdant tea plantations and at an elevation of 1990 m, Nuwara Eliya is one of the highest and most attractive towns in Sri Lanka’s hill region. Built by English tea growers, it remained their favourite hill station during colonial times. Nuwara Eliya boasts the best golf course in Sri Lanka and is home to the impressive Hakgala Botanical Gardens.

The glory of medieval Sri Lanka is seen at Polonnaruwa, the mediaeval capital of the Island. An ancient and compact city, Polonnaruwa features 12th-century stone sculptures and the Gal Vihara – comprising three enormous Buddha figures, one reclining (it’s 13 m long), one standing and one sitting. The statues, located in a cluster along a dirt road, are revered as being amongst the most sacred monuments in Sri Lanka. There are also palace ruins, great bas-reliefs and friezes.
Kandy
The Hill Capital of Kandy was the last bastion of the Sinhala kings and is a charming city offering a living record of a magnificent past and is set around an attractive man-made lake in scenic hill country. It is also the site of Sri Lanka’s greatest annual spectacle, the Esala Perahera festival in August, also known as the Festival of the Moon when thousands of people from all parts of the country and from foreign countries throng to the Hill Capital to witness the magnificent spectacle.
Sigiriya
Located atop a rock plateau overlooking verdant jungle and a vast plain is Sigiriya, the mysterious remains of the 5th-century fortress of King Kasyapa. These ruins of Sigiriya are the most unique of the ancient sites in Sri Lanka. Be sure to brave the rickety-looking spiral staircase to see the awesome 1500-year old painted frescoes located beneath an overhang about 90m up the rock. This archaeological site, unparalleled in South Asia, is a place of pilgrimage for Sri Lankans and has been declared a World Heritage Site.
Nuwara Eliya
Sri Lanka’s cool hill country offers a welcome antidote to the heat of the coast and low-lying plains. Situated amongst verdant tea plantations and at an elevation of 1990 m, Nuwara Eliya is one of the highest and most attractive towns in Sri Lanka’s hill region. Built by English tea growers, it remained their favourite hill station during colonial times. Nuwara Eliya boasts the best golf course in Sri Lanka and is home to the impressive Hakgala Botanical Gardens.

While traveling the country for more than 2 weeks I discovered a new side of the island almost every day. I have been in Sri Lanka for a video production and got to see and experience a lot in a comparably short amount of time.
Accompanied by local guides and wildlife experts I visited several places all over the country: from Colombo through the center where I saw the lion rock Sigiriya, the Kaudulla National Park and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. Then I headed to Trincomalee & Pigeon Island in the north-east, afterwards I flew back and went to the south coast and continued to the Yala National Park as well as the highlands in Kandy.
This way I came to see the best of Sri Lanka!

Day 1: Bandaranaike Airport to Kandy
Day 2-4: We stayed in Kandy and visited the Temple of the Tooth, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and Sygiria (this was a day trip).
Day 5: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and did White Water Rafting at Kitulgala (AM) vistited the Blue Field Tea Factory (PM) enroute.
Day 6: Nuwara Eliya to Ella. We woke up early to walk on the Horton Plains and see World's End before continuing our journey by train in the Observation Car to Ella (I highly recommend this trip!).
Day 7: Ella to Yala National Park with a safari in the afternoon.
Day 8: Yala to Tangalla
Day 8-10: Beach in Tangalla
Day 11: Tangalla to Mirissa
Day 12: Mirissa to Unawatuna
Day 13-14: Unawatuna
Day 15: Unawatuna to Galle

Tourism guide publisher Lonely Planet has named Chennai as one of the top ten cities in the world to visit in 2015. Chennai is ranked as a beta-level city in the Global Cities Index, behind Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore, and ahead of Kolkata, Hyderabad and Colombo.

Quale « vision » adottare nei confronti dei New Media per comunicare meglio il nostro carisma missionario e le nostre esperienze di evangelizzazione?

නමුත් වරාය නගරයේ ගිවිසුම් කාලය මාස 06 කින් දිර්ඝ කිරීමට වරාය අමාත්යවරයා ගෙන ආ යෝජනාවට රනිල් වික්රමසිංහ අගමැති ධුරය දරන කැටිනට් මණ්ඩලයේ අවසරය ලැබී තිබේ.
ඒ අනුව වරාය නගරයේ ඉතිරි ඉදිකිරීම් සිදුකිරිමට පෙර පෝර්ට් සිටි ව්යාපෘතියට අදාලව මහජන අදහස් ලබා ගැනිම සදහා අලුතින් පරිසර බලපෑම් ඇගයීම් වාර්තාවක් සකස් කෙරුණු අතර එම වාර්තාවේ ද දුර්වලතා පවතින බවටයි පරිසරවේදි හු චෝදනා නගන්නේ.

ව්යාපෘතීයට වැලි ලබා ගැනිමට සහ ගොඩ කිරිමට යෝජිත ප්රෙද්ශ මත්ස්ය විශේෂ වල බෝව්ම් කලාප බව ඔහු පවසන අතර ඒ සම්බන්ෙධයෙන් මීට ඉහත දි ගගන ද කරුණු අනාවරණය කළේය.

"Nihal heads to Sri Lanka's capital Colombo to ask the question: how does a music scene, set against a backdrop of war and conflict, develop and flourish?
His journey takes him through the thriving Colombo music scene to see what is being produced 18 months after the end of the war. From the beach raves in the south to the well-established hip-hop scene, young Sri Lankans have found ways to create music relevant to them. This music not only represents daily lives and challenges but also mirrors experiences unique to those who live in an environment where the threat of violence is never far away.
Nihal meets artists, producers, DJs, club owners and movers and shakers to hear how the music reflects a way of life. Among the colourful characters he meets are Tamil rapper, Krishan, who has set up his own studio and label and recently played huge gigs to hundreds of thousands of people in the north of the country (unheard of a year ago).
Nihal also tracks down Iraj, king of Sri Lanka's music industry; club owner Gehan Fernando; and the editor of an underground gay magazine in a society that hasn't yet accepted homosexuality. He also hears how hard it is for girls to party without their parents finding out.
