Rock (geology)

In geology, rock or stone is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids. For example, the common rock granite is a combination of the quartz, feldspar and biotite minerals. The Earth's outer solid layer, the lithosphere, is made of rock.

Rocks have been used by mankind throughout history. From the Stone Age, rocks have been used for tools. The minerals and metals found in rocks have been essential to human civilization.

Three major groups of rocks are defined: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. The scientific study of rocks is called petrology, which is an essential component of geology.

Classification

At a granular level, rocks are composed of grains of minerals, which, in turn, are homogeneous solids formed from a chemical compound that is arranged in an orderly manner. The aggregate minerals forming the rock are held together by chemical bonds. The types and abundance of minerals in a rock are determined by the manner in which the rock was formed. Many rocks contain silica (SiO₂); a compound of silicon and oxygen that forms 74.3% of the Earth's crust. This material forms crystals with other compounds in the rock. The proportion of silica in rocks and minerals is a major factor in determining their name and properties.

Stones (Dan Seals album)

Stones is the debut solo album released by Dan Seals after he parted ways from the duo England Dan & John Ford Coley to pursue a career in country music. It is his only album using the 'England Dan' moniker. "Late at Night", "Stones (Dig a Little Deeper)", and "Love Like the Last Time" were released as singles but did not appear on the Hot Country Songs charts, although "Late at Night" did appear on the US Hot 100 chart, and peaked at #57 on that chart. This album was finally released on CD in 2006 on the Wounded Bird label.

Beatles (song)

"Beatles", written by Sven Olov Bagge and Claes Bure, was the song that, performed by Swedish dansband Forbes, won the Swedish Melodifestivalen 1977. The song's lyrics are about the popular 1960s British rock group the Beatles and include the phrase "Yeah, yeah, yeah" as an homage to the Beatles song "She Loves You". Forbes took the song to the United Kingdom for the Eurovision Song Contest 1977, with Anders Berglund as conductor. The audience cheered at the song, not unexpectedly since the contest took place in the United Kingdom, but the jury had another opinion. The song finished last, with only two points, from West Germany.

At the Swedish singles chart, it peaked at #3.

The song was at Svensktoppen for four weeks during the period 17 April 1977 – 8 May 1977, peaking at #6.

Oasis (Gackt song)

"Oasis" is a single released by Gackt on February 16, 2000. It peaked at seventh place on the Oricon weekly chart and charted for six weeks. It is Gackt's seventh best selling single, with 126,280 copies sold. The song "Oasis" was used as the ending theme for the New Fist of the North Star OVA in 2003, and released along "Lu:na" as a single "Lu:na/Oasis".

Oasis (TV series)

Oasis was a short lived CITV drama series which was about a group of children who ran an inner city farm. It's best known for featuring John Simm and Dean Gaffney. It was set in a wasteland site in south London.

The drama series ran from 5 January to 9 March 1993 for 10 episodes, made by Zenith North, the team behind Byker Grove for Carlton; their first children's drama series for the ITV network.

Oasis (O.C. & A.G. album)

Oasis is the first collaboration album by New York rappers O.C. and A.G., both members of the D.I.T.C. crew. The album was released on November 24, 2009, through a joint venture between Nature Sounds and D.I.T.C. Records, after several pushbacks dating as far back as the spring of 2008. The album was first premiered in its entirety on the duo's Myspace a week before the official release.
