I would not exchange what I have for what those poor people are forced to live under. If you think about it, North Korea is contradictory. The leadership works off of the "juche" ideal that they can make it on their own and they emphasize their country and people and they despise America and the West but....North Koreans all wear Western style clothing, hair-styles, some lucky ones watch a TV that was invented BY the West...using electricity that was invented BY the West and talking on phones that were invented BY the West...and the few that drive cars...hey-they were invented BY the West. Moran, a Democrat, retired from Congress this year after 12 terms representing Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church and parts of Fairfax County. “I’m afraid we’re going to shut it down, over Planned Parenthood mostly, but we can’t get them together,” Moran says. Some Republicans in Congress have called for the GOP-led House to refuse to pass a budget that allows any federal money to go to Planned Parenthood following videos from an abortion opponents group. That group says the videos show Planned Parenthood staff discussing the sale of fetal body parts. Planned Parenthood says that is not the case, and only a few of its affiliates provide fetal tissue to researchers who cover the costs of obtaining and transporting it. There are separate debates and political considerations that could factor into a standoff that are tied to the Iran nuclear deal, the now-expired Export-Import Bank, the debt ceiling and sequestration. Based on a deal to resolve the 2011 debt-ceiling debate, the next round of sequestration cuts are set to automatically take effect Oct. 1 unless a deal is reached to avoid them. With so many service members and defense contractors in the D.C. region, local leaders have warned the regional economy could take a significant hit if the military spending cuts go through as scheduled. In its latest bout of saber rattling, North Korea says it is ready to use nuclear weapons against the United States and other foes if they pursue "their reckless hostile policy" toward Kim Jong Un's regime. In a statement carried by the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday, an atomic energy official said Pyongyang is improving its nuclear weapons arsenal "in quality and quantity." "If the U.S. and other hostile forces persistently seek their reckless hostile policy towards the DPRK and behave mischievously, the DPRK is fully ready to cope with them with nuclear weapons any time," the director of the North Korean Atomic Energy Institute said, using an abbreviation of the country's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. North Korea's main nuclear complex at Yongbyon, which includes a uranium enrichment plant and a plutonium production reactor, is operating normally, the official told the news agency.

Fascination and amusement at the expense of what is known as the Hermit State has even extended into pop culture. 30 Rock satirized Jong-Il’s penchant for exaggerating – or outright making up - his own achievements and the ‘truths’ of the country’s state-run media. The Interview depicted Seth Rogen and James Franco embarking upon a mission to assassinate Jong-un but never reached theaters partially in response to alleged threats by North Korea. The weirdness reached new heights when NBA star and noted eccentric Dennis Rodman formed a friendship with Jong-un and even paid a few visits to the difficult-to-access nation. Indeed, separating fact from fiction in North Korea is not easy to do. The shrouded-in-mystery state offers plenty of misinformation through its state-run media and allows for precious few outsiders to provide an unbiased perspective, thanks to an effort by the isolated country’s leaders to block information from entering or exiting the country. Instead, we are left with unsubstantiated but oft-repeated rumors, like Jong-un feeding his uncle, Jang Song Thaek, to 120 starving dogs. Thus, any examination of North Korea can only be facilitated through piecing together various bits of factual information that emerge occasionally from the country. Would you invest in North Korea? The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about North Korea is its unpredictability. Well, as the regime seeks much-needed foreign investment, some adventurous businessmen have identified some opportunities. Arirang News′ Hwang Sung-hee takes a look at how the world′s most closed economy is trying to make money. Its constant military provocations, threats and dangerous brinkmanship over its nuclear program make North Korea the least attractive place for business. But some say the regime is opening up to draw much-needed foreign investment, for example, in tourism. "There is now a growing trade in tourism from the Netherlands to North Korea. So the North Korean government is now inviting Dutch students to go to Pyongyang to give Dutch language lessons to North Korean tour guides." Around 100-thousand tourists visit this untrodden corner of the world every year and North Korea says it aims to raise that number to one-million. For that, it has set up opulent new ventures like the Masikryong Ski Resort. Koryo Tours, a Western travel agency that organizes trips to the North, says the regime is enthusiastic about its program proposals most of the time. "A lot of projects that we have been working on became possible in the last three years. So are things that we were working on beforehand." But North Korea′s unpredictability is troubling. The regime banned tourists last October on Ebola fears with no signs of lifting it anytime soon. In fact, North Korea was placed at the very bottom of the Heritage Foundation′s index of economic freedom, with a score of 1-point-3 points out of a hundred. That′s over 70 points behind South Korea and nearly 30 points below Cuba, which came second to last on the list. "It doesn′t provide any meaningful consistency in terms of policy, and also North Korea remains, many factors in North Korea are unknown. I think that′s the key risky factor for the investors." "Experts say North Korea′s handling of the inter-Korean Kaesong Industrial Complex with its frequent changes in regulations and unilateral suspensions is a good example of such uncertainty." Despite the problem, trade between the two countries hit a record 2-point-3 billion U.S. dollars last year thanks to growing output in the joint business park. Given the lack of resources and capital, experts say, Pyongyang must open up and reform its antiquated economic system. "That′s the only way to improve the daily lives of North Koreans." About 100 people gathered to watch performances of traditional Korean song and dance at a "North Korea Culture and Art Exhibition". The event came as North Korea was poised to send a rocket into space and the nation's young leader ascended to new top political posts strengthening his hold on power. There was no word on Thursday morning on the timing of the controversial rocket launch, which the North has said will take place sometime between Thursday and Monday. In 2009, a similar launch from an east coast site took place on the second day of a five-day window. The launch, which the North says is for peaceful purposes, has raised international concern - and raised tensions in the region. The North's new Tongchang-ri rocket launch site is about 35 miles (55 kilometres) from Dandong. One resident said the cultural gatherings for North Koreans are common in the city, which is one of the main centres for China-Korean relations and trade. Another resident said the intended rocket launch was symbolic for North Korea's new leader, and intended to show the world that he was trying to improve people's lives. "This thing symbolises the economic and scientific improvement in North Korea," he said. "Since Kim Jong Un became the secretary of the Korean Workers Party, he is determined to create development and to improve the North Korean people's lives," he added. When it comes to street food in Asia, Korea reigns supreme as the true heavyweight offering up a diverse spread of delectable street snacks that range from sweet to salty and from savory to spicy. Whether you're in the mood for a small bite - or a huge feast - you'll certainly find what you're looking for at an affordable price as most Korean street food items are priced between 1000 to 4000 Korean Won. When many foreigners think of Korean cuisine the first thought that may come to mind is having Korean barbecue at a Korean restaurant; however, Korean food is so much more than that and I truly believe it is showcased in its finest form on the streets of Seoul - or any Korean city/town for that matter. Where can you get the best street food in Korea? In my opinion, the street food in Seoul is as good as it gets; however, the truth is that Korean street food can be found all over Korea - from sprawling urban center to tiny little rural village. Whether your outing is for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack or even a hangover cure, eating on the street is as real and authentic as it gets in South Korea. Please be sure to let me know how your experience eating Korean street food compares to other types of Asian street food and/or street food from around the world. The following is a guide to some of our favorite Korean street food bites that you'll want to try when you visit Korea for the first time: I've now traveled to over forty countries and I've yet to experience street food that can compete with Korea. Known locally as Pojangmacha, you can tantalize your taste buds with spicy, savory, salty and sweet street snacks. Two of my personal favorites include Tteokbokki (떡볶이) and Hotteok (호떡). The following is a guide to some of our favorite Korean street -- warning -- I hope you're not hunrgy while watching this. And we are going to show you the different kinds of food you can buy in this alley. So that looks pretty appetizing. What do you have there? It sure does. Well we found some food on a stick here. Different kind of battered food objects. So if you want to take a look. We've got what appears to be a rice cake, kind of a lobster roll and as we go down a bit lower sort of like a hotdog/sausage thingamajig. And this is our first little snack food of the day. It looks tasty. Let's try it. Okay, I'm going to have the rice one. Very classy! Mmmmmm. Nice. Alright, now you are up. What are you going to have? I'm going to take a bite of the hotdog. Scarf it. Mmmmm. It's nice and spicy. Is it? This is really good. Yeah. You'll have to try this one. 호떡? 얼마 죠? 1000 원입니다. Okay, so we have got a delicious treat here called Hotteok. And it's a fried kind of sweet treat. Inside it's filled with cinnamon, honey and sugary kind of goodness. You bit into it and it's really warm. Perfect for the fall or winter. So I will take the first bite here. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. That's good. Mmmmmmm....haha So we've found ourselves a nice little back-alley to enjoy it. We're going to feast on the hotteok. It's delicious. Show us how it is done. It's hot. It's hot! Oh nice! The gooey-ness. It's made of honey. Malt. M A L T. Actually honey is liquid right? We boil this for one week. We make it solid because I have to show you a performance. It's hard. This is corn flour. Make a hole. Like this. Like this. Stretch. Stretch. Little by little. I have a clump of candy in my cheek. Nice. We just bought some sticky rice taffy and it is all natural. It is very sweet. It is kind of like a chewy candy. This would appear to be ice cream in some kind of cane. Look at what we've got here. Nice. Big enough? Go take a bite of that. Take a look at this. I think it is big enough to share. Well, good. Is that the biggest ice cream you've ever had? Dandong, October 10 (KCNA Correspondent) -- A DPRK fine art exhibition opened at the Dandong Gallery in China on October 10. On display there are more than 120 pieces of Korean paintings, oil paintings, jewel paintings and embroideries presented by the DPRK artists. Ri Chol, head of the delegation of the Mansudae Art Studio of the DPRK, told KCNA that the exhibition would be conducive to invigorating fine art exchanges and developing the DPRK-Chinese friendship. The chairwoman of the Dandong City Association for Exchange of Culture and Art said: It is my pleasure to have the DPRK fine art exhibition in Dandong. It is of significance in enhancing cultural exchanges between China and the DPRK. The Korean fine art pieces are popular among Dandong citizens. Looking round those fine art pieces on display, they get to know about the spirit of the Korean artists and their sense of patriotism. The fine art pieces vividly represent Korea's long history and present-day realities of the DPRK. Hui Chun, a Dandong citizen, said: I was deeply impressed by all these exhibits. They are indicative of the wisdom and talents of the Korean people. I was admired at the Korean artists' habit of creation. People of DMZ Korea is the only country in the world in the state of ceasefire. South Korea and North Korea have confronted each other for the past six decades over the 248-kilometer-long and 4-kilometer-wide Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the two sides. Outsiders may be nervous about the situation, but there are South Koreans living near the armistice line who go about their daily lives without fear or apprehension. The country′s division has given rise to many unique situations. Fishermen of the northernmost port on the east coast work under the protection of the South Korean Navy, and a village of North Korean refugees has become a popular tourist destination known for its North Korean cuisine. A bustling town deep in the mountains provides a free and happy break for soldiers from nearby bases, and a village located in the bloodiest battleground of the Korean War is inhabited by hard-working farmers who turned mine fields into fertile farmlands. Also, the security tourism program that takes tourists over the Civilian Control Line to the DMZ gives people a chance to think about war and peace. Taekwondo /ˌtaɪˌkwɒnˈdoʊ/ or /ˌteɪˌkwɒnˈdoʊ/ (Korean 태권도 (hangul) / 跆拳道 (hanja), [tʰɛk͈wʌndo]), also known as Taekwon-Do and Tae Kwon Do, is a Korean martial art. It combines combat and self-defense techniques with sport and exercise. Gyeorugi (pronounced [kjʌɾuɡi]), a type of sparring, has been an Olympic event since 2000. Taekwondo was developed by a variety of Korean masters during the 1940s as combination of Okinawan karate, Chinese martial arts, and the ancient Korean traditions taekkyeon and gwonbeop. Modern history During the Japanese occupation of Korea the practice of traditional Korean martial arts was prohibited. Beginning in 1946, shortly after the conclusion of the occupation, new martial arts schools called kwans were opened in Seoul. These schools were established by Korean martial artists who had studied primarily in Okinawa and China during the Japanese occupation. Accordingly, the martial arts practiced in the kwans was heavily influenced by shotokan karate and Chinese martial arts, though elements of taekkyeon and gwonbeop were also incorporated. The umbrella term traditional taekwondo typically refers to the martial arts practiced by the kwans during the 1940s and 1950s, though in reality the term "taekwondo" had not yet been coined at that time, and indeed each kwan was practicing their own unique style of martial art. During this timeframe taekwondo was also adopted for use by the South Korean military, which only served to increase its popularity among civilian martial arts schools. After witnessing a martial arts demonstration by the military in 1952, South Korea President Syngman Rhee urged that the martial arts styles of the kwans be merged. Beginning in 1955 the leaders of the kwans began discussing in earnest the possibility of creating a unified style of Korean martial art. The name Tae Soo Do was used to describe this notional unified style. In 1957, Choi Hong Hi advocated the use of the name Tae Kwon Do, though that name was slow to catch on among the leaders of the kwans. In 1959 the Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA) was established to facilitate the unification of Korean martial arts. In 1966 Choi established the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) as a separate governing body devoted to institutionalizing a unified style of taekwondo. A speech was followed by the international seminar on child health and meeting for swapping experience. Speakers explained in detail the issues arising in the work for child health including child-protecting system in the DPRK, successes and experience gained in protecting babies health and nursing, problems to be solved by the Korean Association for Supporting the Children and its long-term plan. They said that the DPRK government considered it as an important one related to the future destiny of the revolution to bring up well the children, the future of the country, and has paid deep attention to the work. The participants looked round photos showing health service and child health protection in the DPRK, successes made in implementing the preventive medicine policy of the Workers' Party of Korea and cooperation with missions of international organizations here. A performance was given by children of baby homes and kindergartens at the event.

State media later admitted Kim has been 'suffering discomfort.' In the parliament meeting on Sept. 25, political re-shuffling took place. Vice Marshal Choe Ryong-hae and defense minister Jang Jong-nam were both removed from their military posts. Hwang Pyong-so, the vice minister of the Central Committee of Korean Workers' Party, was appointed vice chairman of the country's powerful National Defense Commission, becoming the new second in command in the nation. But, Kim Jong-un was not present in this major meeting. This is the first time he would have missed the meeting since taking power in December 2011, said Voice of America. North Korean TV finally acknowledged Kim Jong-un is 'suffering discomfort.' He was last seen on TV on Sept. 3, according to Reuters. He had been seen walking with a limp on the 20th anniversary of North Korean Kim Il-sung's death. China Affairs magazine editor-in-chief Chris Wu: "I see two factors— one is the internal struggle has not stopped since his uncle was killed; the other is as some people said, he has been ill for eating too much." The 31-year-old Kim Jong-un killed his uncle Jang Sung-taek last December. Jang Sung-taek, the vice chairman of the National Defense Commission, received death sentence on the charges of conspiracy to engage in acts of subversion of state. It was said that the Jang family were also wiped out. After Jang was executed, Choe Ryong-hae had become Kim Jong-un's military second-in-command. But in just few months, Choe Ryong-hae was replaced by Kim’s close aid, Hwang Pyong-so, who has no military background. KCNA reported last December, Kim Jong-un has tried to kill his half-brother Kim Jong-nam, and purged five of the 7 main senior cadres his father had left him. The remaining two were both in their 80s. Chris Wu indicates, Kim Jong-un is just like his father and grandfather. He kills even the ones at his service in order to defend the Kim dynasty. National Chengchi University College of International Affairs Professor Ding Shuh-Fan indicates Beijing would have known DPRK the best. but since Jang Sung-taek was killed, the connection between Beijing and North Korea deteriorated. This July, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) General Secretary Xi Jinping visited South Korea, and broke the custom of Chinese leaders' 'visit to Pyongyang first, Seoul later.' The Japanese analyst has pointed out Xi Jinping's displeased with Kim Jong-un's order to execute Jang Sung-taek. Consequently, North Korean requests for Kim Jong-un's visit to China were rejected, and the CCP 39th Army of the Shenyang Military Region was deployed to the Changbai Mountain area, at the border of North Korea, according to Hong Kong's newspaper, Ta Kung Pao's report. However, North Korea is still dependent on the CCP's support. International Monetary Fund's report showed among the trading countries of DPRK, 55 percent of their trade is reliant upon on China, six times more than India, its second largest trade country. Chen Long-Shan, Center for Northeast Asia Studies of Jilin Province Research Center, said DPRK has survived mainly because the CCP has not only ignored sanctions, but also supplied food and oil, reported Phoenix Weekly. According to JoongAng Ilbo report on July 5, 2012, the CCP provided $100 billion in aid to DPRK over the past 30 years. As to why the CCP supports DPRK, there could be a fall out at any time. SEOUL: Young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is suffering from "discomfort", state media has said in the first official acknowledgement of ill health after a prolonged period out of the public eye. Kim, 31, who is frequently the centrepiece of the isolated country's propaganda, has not been photographed by state media since appearing at a concert alongside his wife on September 3, fuelling speculation he is suffering from bad health. He had been seen walking with a limp since an event with key officials in July and in a pre-recorded documentary broadcast by state media on Thursday appeared to have difficulty walking. "The wealth and prosperity of our socialism is thanks to the painstaking efforts of our marshal, who keeps lighting the path for the people, like the flicker of a flame, despite suffering discomfort," a voice over for the hour-long documentary said. The documentary was followed by a pre-recorded broadcast of a North Korean Supreme People's Assembly meeting from which Kim Jong Un was notably absent.

Finally, in 1910, Korea was annexed by Japan. However, by the end of World War II – when a defeated Japan ceded power over Korea to the Allies – tensions had risen between the Soviet and Chinese Communist-backed Northern section and the United States-supported Southern half. When a resolution was not found by 1948, the country was officially split along the 38th parallel, creating the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea – or DPRK – in the north and the Republic of Korea in the south. Residual friction and the existing Cold War resulted in the beginning of the Korean War on June 25th, 1950. Since the war’s cease fire in 1953, South Korea has evolved into a more liberal and democratic nation, while North Korea is generally considered to be ruled via dictatorship, with control passed down from generation to generation. Kim took the lead to invade the South but after a tug of war between the two nations with China and Soviet Union supporting the North and the US supporting the South, 3 years later, the war concluded back at the original line except with over 1 million casualties in the North and 400k S. Korean and 37k US casualties. There was a period of lagging until Kim Jong Un started the nuclear program in order to gain bargaining power against the US for food aid/other resources. All was well with the Clinton era until Bush came in and scrapped the entire deal. After US invaded Iraq because of WMDs, DPRK decided to arm themselves in fear of what could happen to them.

Build upto WW3 - North Korea Military Mobilized to WAGE a NUCLEAR ATTACK Against U.S. North Korea warns military cleared to wage nuclear attack against US South Korea says North Korea has moved a missile with "considerable range" to its east coast after an unnamed spokesman for the North Korean army warned the U.S. Wednesday that its military has been cleared to wage an attack using "smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear" weapons. South Korea's defense minister said Thursday the missile moved is not capable of hitting the United States. Kim Kwan-jin dismissed reports in Japanese and South Korean media that the missile could be a KN-08, which is believed to be a long-range missile that if operable could hit the United States. Kim told lawmakers at a hearing that the missile's range is considerable but not far enough to hit the U.S. mainland. He said he did not know the reasons behind the missile movement, saying it "could be for testing or drills." The range he described could refer to a mobile North Korean missile known as the Musudan, which has a range of 1,800 miles. That would make Japan and South Korea potential targets, but little is known about the missile's accuracy. North Korea has railed for weeks against joint U.S. and South Korean military exercises taking place in South Korea and has expressed anger over tightened sanctions for a February nuclear test. The army spokesman said in a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency that troops have been authorized to counter U.S. aggression with "powerful practical military counteractions." The deployment of the battery to the US territory of Guam is the biggest demonstration yet that Washington regards the confrontation with North Korea as more worrying than similar crises over the past few years. It also suggests the Americans are preparing for a long standoff. North Korea ramped up its rhetoric on Wednesday, warning that it had authorised plans for nuclear strikes on targets in the US. The North Korean military said that the "moment of explosion is approaching fast" and that war could break out "today or tomorrow". An unnamed North Korea army spokesman, in a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency, said its military had been cleared to wage an attack using "smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear" weapons. Early on Thursday the Yonhap news agency in the South said North Korea had moved what appeared to be a missile that might be capable of reaching Guam to its east coast. The Musudan missile, thought to be untested, had a theoretical range of 1,875 miles (3,000km) which would put all of South Korea and Japan within its reach, said Yonhap, quoting unnamed South Korean and US intelligence sources.

Australian filmmaker Mark Shea (http://www.overlander.tv) takes a trip to North Korea (The People's Democratic Republic of Korea) with Young Pioneer Tours. http://dprk.youngpioneertours.com Listening to the news, watching hatchet job videos on youtube, anyone would believe North Korea was a dangerous place to visit. I myself as a travel video producer was a little concerned before entering, afraid my camera equipment would be confiscated at the border. Instead what I found was a country just starting to open to tourism. I was treated like royalty and allowed to pretty much film anything I wanted, other than groups of soldiers. At the moment, to visit the DPRK one must go with a tour company. I myself went with Young Pioneer Tours who run small group tours for westerners at a budget price. The other options are going with a Chinese tour which are larger and, from what I saw, tend to rush groups through locations quicker. Young Pioneer Tours work in North Korea with two local guides. They have been running tours to North Korea since 2008, so they know how the DPRK works better than anyone. The tours are highly organised and, as tourism is a relatively new endeavour, tend to focus on viewing sites more than interacting with locals. For someone who makes travel videos focusing on meeting the locals, this was a new experience for me, but I still found there were plenty of chances to chat with our guides and various other guides throughout the tour. The first thing that hits you when you travel by train into North Korea is how lush and green it is, every available space is used to grow food such as corn and rice. It looks like an agrarian wonderland, hills of rolling green dotted with small villages. On closer inspection, one notices the lack of machinery, the ox and cart, everything from cutting grass to ploughing fields, done by hand. The contrast with the enormity of China is startling. Arriving in the capital Pyongyang, the next thing to hit you, is the lack of cars, no roadblocks, no bottlenecks, just wide open boulevards. The footpaths on the other hand are full of people, walking, riding bikes, always on the move. The public transport system includes electric buses and a two line subway system. Our tour took in three main locations; sites around the capital -- Pyongyang, Kaesong -- the capital of Korea during the Koryo Dynasty and the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) I'm not going to go into every detail of the tour, but there were many highlights. In each location we were given ample opportunity to take any photos we pleased (apart from photographing groups of military) Highlights for me in Pyongyang included the amazing murals and statues. I particularly liked the quirky 'music room' full of boomboxes in the Grand People's Study House. Kaesong, the ancient capital of Korea, is like a tourism boom town waiting to happen. It did not escape me that we were the only group walking the quaint cobbled streets surrounded by traditional houses. Visiting the museum and learning of the history of the Koryo period, I thought to recent history, political movements, and how only sixty years have made the two Korea's, North and South, so distinguishable. The demilitarised zone really took me by surprise. I was expecting stern faced soldiers ready for attack. Instead I discovered bus loads of Chinese tourists, snapping photos with obliging soldiers. I'd read a fair bit about North Korea before I traveled there, I'm well aware of it's problems. But I also believe tourism can have positive effects on a country. What we are seeing in North Korea is a change, a change I believe will be for the better. There is a lot you won't be able to talk about with your North Korean Guides on current tours and there is a lot of the country you won't see. BUT if you want to see a country like nothing else on earth, at a fascinating stage in history, North Korea is well and truly open for tourism! Travel video about destination Seoul in South Korea. Founded in 1394, Seoul is both the cultural and economic centre of South Korea and with 12 million inhabitants, it is also the 5th largest city in the world. A huge monument commemorates the Korean War during which, between 1950 and 1953, around 400,000 people were killed. At that time, the United States of America and 20 other countries took part in a United Nations military operation to support South Korea against the forces of North Korea and China. In 1988, the 24th Olympic Games took place in Seoul and for this, the Olympic Park was created, a huge area with a monument at its entrance and 200 sculptures that adorn various paths, designed to highlight Korea's global connection with the rest of the world. At the end of the 18th century, the Hwaseong Fortress was built, now a World Heritage Sight. The fortress extends for 130 hectares and the distance from one main gate to the other is such that a dragon train is available for those who prefer not to walk. In 1969, the N Seoul Tower was built to provide South Korea with TV and radio signals. Seoul's main landmark is 236 metres high and is equipped with several high speed elevators, as well as an observation platform and observatory. Historic buildings, palaces, shrines and bridges all serve to underline the ultra modern appearance of Seoul, a mega city in the Land of the Silent Morning.

Train travel from China to Cult Korea: Beijing-Pyongyang. May 2010. See Videos 2, 3 and 4 for the walking tour of NK. This was a propaganda tour that brings tourists to the country's showcase cities and fertile regions. These videos give people thinking about visiting NK an overview of what they will see there (A variety of tours are offered but itineraries are often similar). These videos are neither truncated nor narrated. Footage is exclusive to regions in N. Korea where the elite population resides. Therefore you will not see how the majority of N. Koreans live, with oppression, famine, lack of human rights and medical care, or the most unfortunate 150,000 political victims living in Soviet Gulag/Nazi Concentration style camps. South Korea maintains a cowardly and disturbing indifference to the large scale atrocities occurring in North Korea. In the 60 years since the division of the Korean Peninsula, South Korweakens have lost their sense of unity and urgency. S. Korea has overwhelming military and non-military options if it wanted the Northern regime to collapse. It does not need to wait forever on the the vastly useless and toothless UN to solve South Korea's problem. Yet, the SK government and inhabitants are shockingly content with maintaining their segregation due to the massive financial costs of rebuilding the North's infrastructure and rehabilitating a mentally/physically stunted and uneducated population. Even though the reunification costs increases each year, the Holocaust stays alive because information connected South Korea ignores the suffering when they are morally responsible and fully capable of taking back their own country. The S. Korean government downplays the N. Korean human rights abuses and over-hypes North Korea's military capacity to discourage citizens from talking about the necessity of freeing Korea. South Korea has 50 times greater GDP and generations more advance military, yet cowers to a starving, impoverished country with antique armaments. N. Korean refugees are not warmly received in S. Korean society. South Korea does not voice opposition to China's illegal forced repatriation of N. Korean refugees, of which there may be over 100,000. When men, women and children are repatriated back to North Korea, they face cruel punishment and imprisonment, or if they had communicated with Westerners or religious groups, they are tortured and/or executed. Yet, this does not concern or alarm the prosperous South Koreans. North Korean lives are dispensable to them. And this is all great news for tourists wanting to see a Stalinist/Maoist country in the 21st century. So no need to rush, you still have plenty of time to visit. The UN is powerless, and South Korea is spineless. If you want to help North Korean civilians, I recommend visiting HRNK (The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea) and the UK Manna Mission of Europe (which operates bakeries to feed NK children).

An American tourist's independent tour of North Korea in May 2010. This is 2 of 4 Videos total, for almost 5 hrs of footage. North Korea allows a 21st Century visitor to time travel back to China during the Cultural Revolution or to Russia during Stalin. I recommend a visit there to see this bizarre country: it's open to almost everyone and is extremely safe for tourists. The tour Company I used is Young Pioneer Tours. They are not very organized but do offer younger, smaller group sizes which I like. If you are more risk adverse and prefer a well-run, stress free tour company, and can live with an older, larger group size, Koyro Tours, a British owned tour company based in Beijing, is highly recommended and they do a great job. A big disclaimer with these videos: I went as a tourist and this is a propaganda tour. This is not representative of most of North Korea. This is their Disney World I saw: look for real hidden video that is smuggled out of the country before drawing any conclusions. And one more thing, Shame on South Koreans for allowing the North Korean regime to continue existing. This is even more tragic than the Holocaust, because South Korea knows exactly what is happening there and yet they allow their enslaved brothers and sisters to suffer and perish in silence. 4/30/2010 Set off from Beijing Train Station to Dandong, China. Train passage to North Korea is the best way to see the countryside and get to know some elite North Korean passengers, without your Govt. minders present. Americans have to fly into the capitol however (unless you have dual citizenship). 4/31/2010 Arrive in Pyongyang by train. Meet with Government Minders who serve as the tour guides (two of them) and who rarely leave your side. There is also a separate driver. Drive to Yanggakdo Hotel and discuss itinerary for the trip. This is a very large high-rise hotel on its own little island in Pyongyang. The hotel is one of about 3 that foreigners stay at in the city. It's nice, very quiet: and it's difficult to leave the hotel grounds without having a guard pointing you back. 5/1 Mansudae Fountain Park Grand Monument on Mongu Hill May Day Celebration Rally - tug of war, Korean dancing The Arch of Triumph Lunch at Chongryu Restaurant -(Jongol Boiled Soup) The Monument to the Party Founding Trekking on Moran Hill - meeting locals having picnics, some dancing Subway: two stops Rakwon Beer Bar- right next door took a tour of a shopping mall Duck BBQ- great restaurant 5/2 Kumsusan Memorial Palace: Mausoleum of President Kim Il Song The Revolutionary Marty's Cemetery Temple of Karangbop Kim Song Square Bookshop: purchased books and postcards: not very good To Gaesong: Tomb of King Kong Min- pretty environment Overnight at Gaesong Folklore House (hotel) - individuals courtyards 5/3 Walk from hotel to South Gate- big bell Koryo Museum- not interesting Kaesong Stamp Shop: great place! Panmunjom - DMZ Lunch at Gaesong Restaurant - lots of small plates- good food Drive to Pyongyang: Monipyongdae Native Home of President Kim Sung- looks like it was built 20 years ago Dinner at Mangpyongdae restaurant: cold noodles Diplomats Club: told us it was closed. No luck 5/4 Tomb of King Tong Mysong- lots of these mounds, fairly interesting Jongrung Temple: boring Drive to Wonsan: Songdowon Hotel- interesting drive to see the countryside and poverty Wonsan Triumphal Museum- has a train on display that Kim Song once used: not interesting Songdowon Interntional International Camping House: not International at all: was closed when we visited so very few kids around, aside from those refinishing the courtyard. Songdowon Recreational Park: walk along beach- very nice place- saw lots of women picking wild plants and grass in the park to supplement their diet. Wonsan Square Chosan Corporative Farm: we had to miss this due to running out of time Dinner at Wonsan Seabird Restaurant 5/5 Drive to Mr. Kympang - see the Garyong Falls: great hiking: just me and a Japanese traveler along with guides and some very few North Koreans- First time guides had ever seen this mountain- was closed to South Korea because of an earlier shooting death of a South Korean tourist. Picnic Lunch near the stream Drive back to Pyongyang: lots of rain: very bumpy ride- the highways are empty yet the roads are in terrible shape: felt like horseback riding at 60 mph. Dinner at National Restaurant: which we did not get to because it had closed: instead took dinner at the hotel 5/6 Return by Train to china Stop in Dandong and continue to Beijing.

South Korea’s most famous monastery is located in the Gaya-San National Park. Today the complex and its ninety buildings have become one of the main Buddhist centres in the East.. Tumuli Park is situated in the centre of Kyong Ju, former capital of the Silla Kingdom and contains twenty three royal tombs that look from the outside like large green hills. A huge number of valuable finds were made here thus the National Museum was created in which more than a hundred and fifty thousand exhibits from prehistoric times right up to the Joseon Dynasty are on display. Jeju island is a unique holiday paradise, a volcanic island with temples, waterfalls, tea plantations and several leisure facilities. For Koreans as well as the Japanese, Jeju Island has, due to its tropical climate, become a very popular honeymoon destination. When during dinner a volcano erupts and laser gods battle against each other, the Korean people are reminded of the fact that they have withstood invasion by the Mongols, Chinese and Japanese. At the climax of the show a fiery dragon appears: his sole task to protect glorious South Korea!

South Korea Travel Video Guide: South Korea, formally the Republic of Korea is a country in East Asia. South Korea occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea to the north, China across the sea to the west and Japan a short ferry ride to the southeast. Archeological finds of prehistoric toolmaking on the Korean Peninsula date back to 70,000 BC, and the first pottery is found around 8000 BC. Comb-pattern pottery culture peaked around 3500-2000 BC. Legend has it that Korea began with the founding of Gojoseon (also called Ancient Chosun) by the legendary Dangun in 2333 BC. Archeological and contemporaneous written records of Gojoseon as a kingdom date back to around 7th-4th century BC. Gojoseon was eventually defeated by the Chinese Han Dynasty and its territories were governed by four Chinese commanderies. The political chaos following the fall of the Han Dynasty in China allowed native tribes to regain control of Korea and led to the emergence of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, namely Goguryeo, Silla and Baekje. Despite repeated attempts by China, namely the Sui Dynasty and later the Tang Dynasty, to conquer the Korean Peninsula, northern-based Goguryeo managed to repel them. Eventually, Goguryeo fell to a Silla-Tang alliance, which had earlier defeated Baekje. This unified Korea under the Silla dynasty. Even though Tang later invaded, Silla forces managed to drive them out, thus maintaining Korea's independence. Unified Silla was replaced by the Goryeo (also called Koryo) dynasty, from which the modern name "Korea" derives. One highlight of the Goryeo dynasty was that in 1234 the world's first metal movable type was invented by a Korean named Choe Yun-ui (200 years before Gutenberg's printing press). Goryeo was replaced by the Joseon (also called Chosun) dynasty, after a coup by one of its generals. The Joseon dynasty ruled Korea from 1392 to 1910, being one of the longest actively ruling dynasties in world history. It was during the early part of the Joseon dynasty that Korean technological inventions such as the world's first water clock, ironclad ship, and other innovations took place. During the rule of King Sejong the Great, the world's first rain gauge was invented and the Korean alphabet known as hangul was created. These journeys from Pyongyang to Moscow contributed to the close historical connection between the countries and paved the way for desperately needed assistance.When North Korea was still a colony of Japan during World War II, Kim Il-sung relied on the Soviet Union for support in his fight of resistance. The Soviet Union provided assistance again in 1945, when the Workers’ Party of North Korea was founded, and on Sept. 9, 1948, when Kim Il-sung founded the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. In the 1950s and 60s, support from the Soviet Union led North Korea to have a rate of industrial development that was second only to Japan in Asia. When the Soviet Union dissolved, this generosity abruptly ended. Desperate for support in the face of international sanctions, as North Korea began to drift away from the Soviet Union, it turned to China. While Russia is still North Korea’s third largest exporter, proportionally it is far behind China, which places first in terms of both exports and imports. The discrepancy is apparent by looking at flight schedules. There is one daily direct round trip flight between Pyongyang and Beijing and no regular direct flights between Pyongyang and Moscow. In terms of the most widely spoken foreign languages in North Korea, Russian trails English and Mandarin.Former StudentKim Il-sung UniversityOf course English is the official language of the world. But in our country, China and Russia are so nearby. So we must study English first, after that we need to study Chinese and Russian as a second foreign language.North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, had chosen Russia as his first foreign state to visit since taking power. While the trip was later cancelled, it still carried important symbolic meaning. Recently, Russia has proposed building a railway that cut across North Korea from north to south and links to the Trans-Siberian Railway. Saudi Arabia's most senior cleric, the grand mufti, has said Thursday's stampede that killed more than 700 people at the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca was beyond human control.
