Aleppo (Arabic: حلب Ḥalab [ˈħalæb], other names) is the largest city in Syria and the capital of Aleppo Governorate, the most populous Syrian governorate. With an official population of 2,132,100 (2004 census), it is also one of the largest cities in the Levant. For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. Although relatively close to Damascus in distance, Aleppo is distinct in identity, architecture and culture, all shaped by a markedly different history and geography.
Aleppo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world; it has been inhabited since perhaps as early as the 6th millennium BC. Excavations at Tell as-Sawda and Tell al-Ansari, just south of the old city of Aleppo, show that the area was occupied since at least the latter part of the 3rd millennium BC; and this is also when Aleppo is first mentioned in cuneiform tablets unearthed in Ebla and Mesopotamia, in which it is noted for its commercial and military proficiency. Such a long history is probably due to its being a strategic trading point midway between the Mediterranean Sea and Mesopotamia.

For 16 days journalist Elena Yoncheva and her team documented life in one of the world's most dangerous cities, that of Aleppo in Syria.
The team follows rebel units to the front line and moves through Aleppo's deserted neighborhoods, where the rebels have made secret passages.
The journalists meet some of Aleppo's most radical rebel units: al-Nusra, Ahrar al-Sham, al-Tawhid and offer an insight into their tactics and motives.
The film follows the day-to-day life of Aleppo's residents against the backdrop of the civil war and shortages of staple products.
The documentary throws light on the situation in Syria, the interests and money behind the various military formations and the Syrian opposition's real influence on them.

On 29 April, the FSA and Ahrar ash-Sham launched an operation in the old city of Aleppo, which included tunnel bombs and shelling of a barracks. The rebels claimed to had killed 76 soldiers.
May At the beginning of May a coalition of rebel militias declared war upon the YPG-controlled district of Sheikh Maqsood after a dispute over the treatment of an Arab woman by YPG militiamen; this is potentially part of a larger split between the rebels and the YPG in Aleppo.
The Old City of Aleppo is the historic city centre of Aleppo, Syria. Many districts of the ancient city remained essentially unchanged since its construction during the 12th to the 16th century. Being subjected to constant invasions and political instability, the inhabitants of the city were forced to build cell-like quarters and districts that were socially and economically independent. Each district was characterized by the religious and ethnic characteristics of its inhabitants.
The Old City of Aleppo -composed of the ancient city within the walls and the old cell-like quarters outside the walls- has an approximate area of 350 hectares (3.5 km²) housing more than 120,000 residents.
Characterized with its large mansions, narrow alleys, covered souqs and ancient caravanserais, the Ancient City of Aleppo became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986.

Heavy clashes erupted as various brigades attacked Al-Ramouseh district in Aleppo. The fighters managed to capture the district from the Syrian Army after fierce clashes went on for a couple days.
Al-Ramouseh is a industrial district it has many different factories which were being used by the Syrian Army as strategic bastions.
The fighters also managed to capture the Sadkop Fuel Depots, social media activists also claimed that the leader of Jaish Al-Mujahideen has been killed in the offensive on Al-Ramouseh.
Al-Ramouseh is strategically important because it holds the main supply road to the Syrian Army in Western Aleppo. The Syrian Army claims to have full control of the main road while opposition fighters claim that they control it.
The district is known for the Aleppo Artillery School massacre which occurred on June 16, 1979. An officer on duty, Ibrahim el-Youssef, and members of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood calling themselves the Fighting Vanguard (Attali'a el-Moukatillah) and led by Adnan Uqla, massacred between 50 and 83 Alawi cadets in the Aleppo Artillery School. The incident marked the beginning of full scale urban warfare of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood against that ruling Alawite government.

Why is Russia sending troops to Syria?
The United States "remains open to tactical, practical discussions" with Russia over the fight against Islamic State in Syria, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a briefing.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, speaking in an interview with Syrian TV Thursday evening, said no Russian combat troops were fighting in Syria.
“Russia is supporting the Syrian government and is ready to offer everything possible to combat terrorism when it becomes necessary,” al-Moallem said. He said Syria will not hesitate to ask for Russia’s help in future if it is needed. His comments were the first by a senior Syrian official on Moscow’s military moves in Syria. He did not elaborate.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed Thursday that Moscow is happy to talk to Washington about its military co-operation with Syria.
Syrian army starts using new weapons from Russia - military source.
The Syrian military has recently started using new types of air and ground weapons supplied by Russia, a Syrian military source told Reuters on Thursday, underlining growing Russian support for Damascus that is alarming the United States.
"The weapons are highly effective and very accurate, and hit targets precisely," the source said in response to a question about Russian support. "We can say they are all types of weapons, be it air or ground."
Russian troops already engaged in battle against ISIS around Homs.
Contrary to the impression conveyed by Moscow that Russian troops in Syria are not engaged in combat and that none of the sophisticated arms deliveries were destined to the Syrian army, new developments belie both these claims.
Russia is deploying forces and equipment to the Syrian coastal city of Latakia to prop up the Syrian government forces fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as Isis, and other rebel groups.

An anonymous spokesman for the group has stated that it will not have ties with the Syrian National Coalition, though a member of the political bureau of the group, Ahmad Musa, has stated that he hopes for recognition from the Syrian National Council in cooperation for what he suggested "the Syrian people want. Aleppo is Syria's largest metropolitan area and a millennia-old commercial capital. Today, however, it is a relative ghost town, threatened by regime bombing from the air and a militant offensive on the ground.
For two weeks this summer, VICE News embedded with the Islamic Front, a coalition of Islamist rebels fighting the forces of President Bashar al-Assad on one hand and Islamic State militants on the other. From their secret tunnels beneath the ancient city to their threatened frontline outposts in Aleppo's ruined medieval center, we followed the Islamic Front as it battled against overwhelming odds to retain control of the capital of the Syrian revolution.

The Syrian city of Aleppo, under constant bombardment by air and threatened by both Syrian regime forces and Islamic State militants on the ground, is now one of the most dangerous places in the world. In addition to fighting the enemies at the gates, Aleppo’s rebels have to contend with adversaries within the city, including armed gangs of criminals and pro-Islamic State infiltrators.
While the US government is now ramping up military aid to the ostensibly secular Free Syrian Army, Aleppo's Islamic Front rebels are holding their ground with homemade munitions. Considered too Islamist for support from the West, and too moderate for jihadist fundraisers, the Islamic Front is preparing for the final battle. VICE News followed Islamic Front fighters defending the rebel-held half of the city against overwhelming odds from both the might of the Syrian regime and the resurgent Islamic State.

The opposition is putting up fierce resistance because losing this battle would mean losing its strongholds in the city. „Wegen des Konflikts in Syrien ist es nicht weiter möglich, die Unversehrtheit und den Schutz des herausragenden universellen Wertes dieser sechs Objekte zu garantieren", wird die Weltkulturorganisation von der Agentur zitiert.

Componist Merlijn Twaalfhoven en schrijver Abdelkader Benali schreven een korte opera op basis van teksten op postkaarten uit Aleppo, Syrië. Op 19 Juni 2014 klonk de première als voorprogramma voor het Kennismakingsconcert van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest in het Concertgebouw te Amsterdam.
Het project is in korte tijd met crowdfunding tot stand gekomen. Pas in mei zijn de voorbereidingen begonnen. In Aleppo is toen door een kunstenaar een bijeenkomst georganiseerd waar men herinneringen op ansichtkaarten schreef. Deze poetische, tragische maar soms ook luchtige teksten zijn naar Nederland gestuurd. Omdat de post extreem traag is vanuit Syrië, worden de kaarten pas in de loop van de zomer verwacht. Gelukkig was er soms een internetverbinding zodat de scans het team in Nederland konden bereiken.
Musici uit Syrië die naar Nederland zijn gevlucht spelen nu samen met leden van het Concertgebouworkest de première. De makers willen hiermee de menselijke kant van de Syrische tragedie delen met het publiek. Twaalfhoven: “Door een opera te maken zijn we in staat juist subtiele gevoelens, twijfel en complexe emoties uit te drukken. In het journaal is daarvoor geen plaats. In Nederland krijgen we een éénzijdig beeld uit het Midden Oosten. De chaos en het geweld staan centraal terwijl de burgers die in de oorlog zijn gevangen onzichtbaar blijven. Wij willen juist de gewone mensen een stem geven die weigeren om meegesleurd te worden in de spiraal van geweld.”

Syrian rebels launched an attack on Syrian army positions in Aleppo. This is a 50 minutes compilation of the battle covering it from the start to the end.
The fighting was part of a new rebel offensive to reclaim Aleppo province, amid fierce confrontations between militant groups and the Syrian government.
The battle was mostly fought by the so called "Free Syrian Army divisions 101, 16 and 13" on close quarters from room to room.
I wasnt been able to get more information about this battle since it looks like it is an ongoing operation in the battle for Aleppo and much more footage from Aleppo will be released in the next time. If you have any additional informations write it in the comments and I will update this description from time to time.
The fighting here is pretty intense even if it starts a bit slow.

Attack on 2/6/2014 by Japhet al-Nusra who used their specialty, a huge suicide truck bomb, to attack the prison gate but Syrian soldiers hit the truck with a rocket-propelled grenade and blew it up prematurely. The video shows a jihadi unit withdrawing from the prison. Their Chechen leader is killed instantly by mortar shrapnel.
