Our second day in Rome started with a 6:30 am jog from our AirBnB apartment in Trastevere to the Pantheon. We were overwhelmed by the number of tourists we encountered on our first day in beautiful Rome, so we thought we'd try to see a site or two bright and early when we rightly assumed that everyone else would be sleeping. ;)
We think an early morning walk or jog is the best way to see the city! There's little traffic and even fewer tourists. We had both the Pantheon and Piazza Navona pretty much to ourselves! The only downside of course is that it was too early to go inside the Pantheon.
We spent the rest of the day visiting the Colosseum and Vatican. We highly recommend purchasing your tickets online! That way you can avoid long lines, especially at the Colosseum. For the Vatican City Museum, you can purchase a voucher online and exchange it for a ticket at the Museum.
To our dismay both the Colosseum and Forum were closed - without prior notification - until 11:30 am due to an official government-sponsored event. Fortunately, much of the Forum is visible from the public sidewalks. In addition, there are several other spectacular monuments all within walking distance of the Colosseum and Forum including Trajan's Column and the Vittorio Emmanuel II Monument. We also took this opportunity to walk back to the Pantheon and go inside.
The Vatican City Museum is a treasure trove of art! Because of our delays getting into the Colosseum, we sadly had to rush through the Museum. But what we saw was breathtaking! It was also amazing to see the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in-person!
From the Museum, it's a short five or so minute walk to the Vatican City where we headed straight to St. Peter's Basilica. We arrived around 5:15 pm, and the light inside the Basilica was stunning! We paid 7 Euro per person to take the elevator + 320 steps to the Dome. The alternative is to pay 5 Euro per person to ascend completely on foot via 551 steps. The 360-degree views of Rome from the Dome are gorgeous!
We enjoyed a simple pasta dinner followed by our daily serving of gelato! We ended the day with a walk along the Tiber River back to our place in Trastevere. The monuments and bridges around the river are beautifully lit up at night!
As always, many thanks for watching!!

As legend has it, Rome, Italy, was founded by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus, in 700 B.C. The former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration.
No Rome tour is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Get in touch with your inner gladiator and stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city.

The Piazza Navona is situated in one of the Italian capital's most beautiful squares in a city that has always been a dream destination for travelers from all over the world. The Romans had a special regard for fountains, the most famous of which is the Fontana Di Trevi. It was designed by Nicolo Salvi for the façade of the Palazzo Poli.

Ciampino Airport to Rome City Center Guide - Travel Italy
This is our travel guide on how to get from Ciampino Airport in Italy to Rome city center (aka Termini Station)
We recently took a trip to Rome. We went through the Ciampino airport. This is the airport most people will land at when they fly from within Europe and with budget airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. This airport is located about a 30 minute drive outside the center of Rome.
There are three common ways to reach the city center (aka termini station) from ciampino.
The first is the shuttle bus, which was what we used and what you see in this video. The price of our bus at the time was 3.90 euros however some of the other buses

Rome Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
As legend has it, Rome, Italy, was founded by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus, in 700 B.C. The former Caput Mundi, or Capital of the World, sits beneath Palatine Hill, where the ruins of its original incarnation are open for exploration.
No Rome tour is complete without stopping by the remains of the Temple of Saturn and Arch of Septimus, both located in the Roman Forum. Get in touch with your inner gladiator and stop by the Colosseum, a relic of Roman bloodsports and perhaps the most recognizable element of the city.
Toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure you’ll return to Rome one day; don’t toss in two coins unless you’re ready to fall in love with a Roman. Continue your Rome sightseeing in St. Peter’s Square, home of St. Peter’s Basilica. The world’s largest church, designed by Michelangelo, is both a remarkable structure and a tribute to faith. You can look down from the famous dome to the Holy Square, which is usually filled with the faithful looking to obtain a blessing from the Pope. After this, it’s just a few steps to restaurants filled with Italian food. Forget coming back to Rome – you’ll never want to leave.
What’s your favorite memory of Rome?

Rome Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
The Eternal City, where all roads lead. The heart of the former ancient empire is now full with the establishments of the 21st century. The Circus Maximus and the Forum Romanum are only ruins now, but the Colosseum, the Triumphal Arch and Trajan’s Column is still standing, while the Capitolium flourishes in its full beauty. One can see the the baths of Diocletian and Caracalla and can put one’s hand in the Mouth of Truth. The later periods added the Castel Sant’Angelo, the Fontana di Trevi, the Spanish Steps and the bridges crossing the Tiber to the landscape of the city built on seven hills. In the middle of Rome, there is a country protected by the Swiss Guards: Vatican, the centre of the Catholic world.

Roma Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Roma in Italy.
Roma Aeterna, eternal city and ancient centre of the world.
The Piazza Navona is situated in one of the Italian capital's most beautiful squares in a city that has always been a dream destination for travelers from all over the world. Three large fountains adorn the large oval square that was built above the ruins of a Domitian stadium that dates back to the 3rd century A.D.
The Romans had a special regard for fountains, the most famous of which is the Fontana Di Trevi. It was designed by Nicolo Salvi for the façade of the Palazzo Poli.
The Via Appia Antica was the most important street in ancient Rome. It connected the southern area with the main city and even today, one can walk over its ancient cobblestones.
Pope Gregory XIII had the Palazzo Del Quirinale built as his summer residence but it was not long after that the Italian monarchs acquired it as their Renaissance palace. Today it is the residence of Italy's President and the daily changing of the guards ceremony is still a popular attraction.
The 17th century St. Peter's Square is the most beautiful square in the world and is situated in the centre of the Vatican, an autonomous Church State in the heart of Rome that also contains the imposing and breathtaking Petersdom, the largest Christian church in the world.
The allure of this city lies in its combination of chaos and joie de vivre, elegance and creativity. Rome is a complete work of art!

Secret spots in Rome Part #1
One of Italy’s most popular tourist destinations (and arguably the country’s most well recognised city), Rome, is one of my favourite places to visit. Hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to the ancient city each and every day, most to visit landmarks such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps…
This year I was lucky enough to have a personalised tour with a local where I got to uncover a couple of secret spots, that will undoubtedly bring me back for more.
The vibrant and energetic local I am referring to is none other than fellow YouTuber and all round Italian enthusiast, Lucrezia, from the channel Learn Italian with Lucrezia who I was trusting with my schedule for the one and only day I was spending in Rome this year.
We started off bypassing most of the regular spots on a scorching Summer day and headed for St Peter’s Basilica. I told Lucrezia that this was a pretty famous spot so we couldn’t claim it as a secret…but she laughed it off as she had one objective in mind – to take me to the best vantage point that most tourists don’t know about.
After checking this beautiful spot out and testing her theory, we moved on to a location not so far away that was as authentically Roman as you can get – but without all the fuss of the tourists. It is a gorgeous strip, full of people from the area going about their lives and filled with stores that withhold the town’s tradition – antiques.
Watch the video to find out more and get a glimpse into my day with Lucrezia. Hopefully it will inspire your own Roman excursion to be an original one too.
(PS: Part two is also pretty delicious as Lucrezia takes me to her favourite Roman trattoria…stay tuned!)

Number 7: Spanish Steps, probably the most important steps in the world. They draw visitors from all over.
Number 6: Piazza Navona, this is a large and popular square. About 1900 years ago this was the site of a stadium which was later converted into a piazza.
Number 5: Piazza del Popolo, another historic and lively piazza of Rome. It is surrounded by beautiful structures. In Italian, Piazza del Popolo literally means people's square.
Number 4: Trevi Fountain, a grand fountain in the heart of Rome. You will not find a more gorgeous fountain anywhere else.
Number 3: Pantheon. Constructed nearly 2,000 years ago, Pantheon is one of the most well-known historical buildings of Rome. You will find it to be remarkably preserved.
Number 2: Vatican. It has been the home of the Pope for hundreds of years. Even though it is situated within Rome, Vatican is an independent country, in fact, the smallest in the world.
Number 1: Colosseum. No visit to Rome is complete without a visit to the Colosseum, the site for the gladiator fights. It is perhaps the most important symbol of the mighty Roman Empire.

The price of our bus at the time was 3.90 euros however some of the other buses cost more. Expect to pay about five euros a person. Be mindful that lines for the shuttle buses can be hectic and not all of the people line up in queues so you may be cut in line a lot, therefore you may have to push your way onto the bus.
The second way you can reach the city center is through subway. There is a station nearby called Casabianca. The subway costs 1 euro 50 and there are shuttle buses you can take to the subway station for about 1 euro. This station is about two kilometers away from the airport, so we do not recommend you walk there.
The third way you can reach city center is through taxi cab. There will be cab stands outside the airport. The set price for Airport the city center is 30 euros, however when we tried taking the cab on our way back from Rome to the Airport, it cost us 45 euros. So be aware of cab drivers trying to scam you.
One last tip to note is that traffic in Rome can be very busy, our bus ride that should have taken 30 minutes ended up taking 50 minutes due to traffic. Please be aware of this when you travel.
We hope you enjoy your time in Italy!

Able to inspire wonder and awe in all who gazed upon them, The Seven Wonders of Ancient Rome - the Pantheon, the Aqueducts of Rome, the Via Appia, the Baths of Caracalla, Trajan's Markets, Circus Maximus and the Colosseum - were the works of great men who translated fantastic visions into the epitome of human achievement. These visionaries included ambitious Emperors like Hadrian and engineers with revolutionary ideas such as Apollodorus. By the second century AD, Rome had become the 'caput mundi' - the head of the world. The Pantheon is still discussed today as a building clouded in mystery. The original purpose of the building is unknown. Although the temple is dedicated to all Greek gods the scale and size of the temple emphasized power and Roman duty. There is also celestial symbolism present in the temple. The representation of celestial symbols and Roman power could be linked to the idea of the empire's far reaches. Hadrian, was a military emperor and conquered many countries during his reign. But we are still unsure of the building's true meaning and purpose.
The interior of the dome was possibly intended to symbolize the arched vault of the heavens.[53] The oculus at the dome's apex and the entry door are the only natural sources of light in the interior. Throughout the day, the light from the oculus moves around this space in a reverse sundial effect.[57] The oculus also serves as a cooling and ventilation method. During storms, a drainage system below the floor handles the rain that falls through the oculus.
The building today represents the architectural advancements during the late Roman Empire . The Pantheon is attributed with inspiring many other buildings such as the Panthéon in Paris and Thomas Jefferson's rotunda at University of Virginia . Considered to be the best preserved Roman temples, the Pantheon will be forever seen as one of the greatest Roman structures ever built.
The Pantheon was dedicated to pan theos, "all the gods." When it became a church, it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and all the martyrs.
The Pantheon is the burial place of several important Italians (including the artist Raphael), and it remains an active church. It is a major tourist destination and a popular place for weddings.

48 HOURS IN ROME | Colosseum, Pantheon, Vatican City
Vlog 5. May 23rd to 25th 2015.
I went to Rome! Whaaaat? It still feels surreal for me to write that. Ever since I was about 13 years old, it's all I've ever wanted to do, and it was fabulous, everything I thought it would be and more. If you haven't been there I 100% recommend it. The food is delicious, the history is incredible and the locals are some of the loveliest people I have ever met.
We were very busy for the two days and I wouldn't change it for the world, but there is still a lot I need to see. So next time I will stay for a whole week.
ps: So sorry I didn't film the journey back to the airport, I came down with really bad hayfever so my nose was completely blocked and I couldn't stop sneezing. Wasn't much fun, and it wouldn't have made for very good commentary haha :P
