Urtica dioica
Urtica dioica, often called common nettle or stinging nettle (although not all plants of this species sting), is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant, native to Europe, Asia, northern Africa, and western North America, and is the best-known member of the nettle genus Urtica. The species is divided into six subspecies, five of which have many hollow stinging hairs called trichomes on the leaves and stems, which act like hypodermic needles, injecting histamine and other chemicals that produce a stinging sensation when contacted by humans and other animals. The plant has a long history of use as a source of medicine, food, and fibre.
Description
Urtica dioica is a dioecious, herbaceous, perennial plant, 1 to 2 m (3 to 7 ft) tall in the summer and dying down to the ground in winter. It has widely spreading rhizomes and stolons, which are bright yellow, as are the roots. The soft, green leaves are 3 to 15 cm (1 to 6 in) long and are borne oppositely on an erect, wiry, green stem. The leaves have a strongly serrated margin, a cordate base, and an acuminate tip with a terminal leaf tooth longer than adjacent laterals. It bears small, greenish or brownish, numerous flowers in dense axillary inflorescences. The leaves and stems are very hairy with nonstinging hairs, and in most subspecies, also bear many stinging hairs (trichomes), whose tips come off when touched, transforming the hair into a needle that can inject several chemicals: acetylcholine, histamine, 5-HT (serotonin), moroidin,leukotrienes, and possibly formic acid. This mixture of chemical compounds causes a painful sting or paresthesia from which the species derives one of its common names, stinging nettle, as well as the colloquial names burn nettle, burn weed, and burn hazel.

Mountain Rose Herbs
Mountain Rose Herbs is an American herbal distribution retailer based in Eugene, Oregon and founded in 1987. It is the first Fair Trade Certified supplier of medicinal herbs in the United States.
Background
Herbalist Rosemary Gladstar started Mountain Rose Herbs in order to provide herbal materials and supplies to students of the California School of Herbal Studies. The retailer continued as a home-based business in Humboldt County, California until the late 1990s, under several different owners, filling orders by mail from a small catalog. In 1998 the company moved into a larger residential location in North San Juan, California.
Mountain Rose Herbs relocated to a commercial location in Pleasant Hill, Oregon in 2001 to be closer to many of its farms and suppliers. The retailer became a certified organic processor through Oregon Tilth in 2002. In 2010, the company moved again to a larger facility in Eugene, Oregon.
Education and events
In 2011, Mountain Rose Herbs created and hosted the four-day Rootstalk Festival in Salem, Oregon. Over 700 people attended herbal education workshops and classes taught by herbalists, botanists, and environmental experts. All proceeds went to the nonprofit known as Cascadia Wildlands.

Salad Fingers
Salad Fingers is a British animation series originally created by David Firth in July 2004. It gained rapid internet popularity in 2005. The San Francisco Chronicle ranked it in the "Top 10" pop culture phenomena for that year.
The cartoon revolves around the eponymous Salad Fingers, a thin, green, mentally troubled man who inhabits a desolate world with three lifeless, scruffy finger puppets. Already a well-known flash animation series available on the internet, Salad Fingers premiered in Australia at the 2007 Sydney Underground Film Festival at the Factory Theatre. The first seven episodes were shown back to back, along with a variety of other animated short films, during the "Re-Animation" session.
Music
The eerie music featured in the background is the tune "Beware the Friendly Stranger" from the Boards of Canada album Geogaddi. The dark music in the soundtrack that appears when Salad Fingers is scared is actually Firth playing the guitar, slowed down and reversed. Other music included in Salad Fingers episodes includes work credited to Brian Eno, Sigur Rós, Aphex Twin and Lustmord. David Firth frequently inserts references to Aphex Twin in his flash cartoons; for example, the Aphex Twin logo can be found on the telephone in Salad Fingers episode five. Firth has also cited the works of David Lynch, South Park, Tim Burton, The League of Gentlemen and Chris Morris as sources of inspiration.
