  • Surely there are more GPs and Pharmacies open. This article is very misleading and in case of emergencies you should always call 000 or go to a hospital.

Note: I am not a GP or a Pharmacist.

    • There are many businesses open in the western suburbs or even all over the other areas in Melbourne suburbs. Maybe a more collective suggestions would be handy for subscribers, next time around.

          • Silliest excuse for a holiday ever, where else in he world they have a holiday the day before a game or even on the day of the game, for heavens sake Victoria there is more to this world than afl. I will never ever vote labour again in my life, such childish behaviour. I feel sorry for the business owners they tend to lose a lot of money. his premier is nothing but an afl representative.

            • @man cuddles, Yep no difference, silly as well, but at least the MC has followings all over the world or near enough to that, where is afl is more a Victoria thing with a sprinkling of interstate interest.

          • Sounds to me the simplest solution is to have the public holiday on Monday like most of the rest of the country. Still provides a long weekend but everyone is in town for the parade and then has an extra day off to recover.

            • So what about the Melbourne Cup public holiday? Surely there's more to this world than a horse race?

Something I, for one, have absolutely no interest in.

              • I'm 50 later this year, and can remember 20-30 years ago when we were told to prepare for a greater amount of leisure time (less hours of work!). What happened? Are times that tough? Are we being sold the dream that requires us to work till we drop? Can we deal with having enough, or do we need to chase the dollar to have more money less, but less time to enjoy it. I don't care one way or the other but 1/2 billion dollars lost to the economy (turn over or profit?). Show me the cost versus happiness scale. If our economic profits were shared more equally amongst the citizens, we might care a little more, but a holiday versus profit, for the average joe/jolene doesn't even enter their thoughts. Melbourne Cup? If the economy matters so much ,call off that holiday. I'm not sure, but I would imagine that more people care about and are involved in footy, than thoroughbred racing.
