Q. Do I need a subscription to access newyorker.com?
A. Our Web-only content and the full contents of each week’s magazine, plus everything we’ve published since 2007 and select older magazine stories, are available on newyorker.com. All readers are able to enjoy the home page, section pages, the video hub, Goings On About Town listings, and six articles per month at no charge before being asked to subscribe. Q. Why should I “link my subscription”?
A. In order to get full digital access. When you link your subscription, you’re connecting your subscription account information—your status as a paid subscriber with digital access—to a newyorker.com login. Once you’ve linked and signed in, you get unlimited access to newyorker.com, including full access to every issue we’ve published since 1925, at archives.newyorker.com, and to our magazine app for tablets and smartphones.

Q. Why should I “sign in”?
A. When you’re signed in to newyorker.com, you can enter or vote in the Cartoon Caption Contest, and, if your login is linked to a current subscription, you can get unlimited access to newyorker.com, including full access to every issue we’ve published since 1925, at archives.newyorker.com.

Q. How do I manage my newyorker.com account to make changes, such as to my e-mail address or password?
A. Please sign in. You will then see a MY ACCOUNT link. Clicking there will take you to a profile page, where you can manage your newyorker.com account information, including your e-mail address and password.

Q. I forgot my password, or need to reset it. How can I do that?
A. Please click SIGN IN in the upper right corner of the screen. You will see a FORGOT PASSWORD? link on the sign-in screen; follow the prompts from there.

Q. How do I manage my New Yorker subscription?
A. At this time, our subscription accounts are managed through our Customer Care site. After logging in or creating an account, you can update your mailing address, your payment information, and more.

Q. Why are some older stories formatted differently?
A. Every story we’ve published since 2007 is available on newyorker.com in the same easy-to-read format as the new stories we’re publishing each day. A sampling of older stories is also available in that format. Every issue of the magazine since its founding, in 1925, is available in a digital replica format—to subscribers only—at archives.newyorker.com. When you search for an article on newyorker.com that is available only in the replica format, you’ll get a summary of the article, along with a prompt to sign in or subscribe to see the full article.

A. Everything we’ve published since 1925 is available—to subscribers only—at archives.newyorker.com, which contains a digital replica of every issue of the magazine. Q. I can get to the cover, but then the pages won’t turn. What’s going on?
A. It is possible that you are not signed in. This may be a problem with your browser’s cookies. Open your browser’s preferences or settings and delete all cookies related to archives.newyorker.com. Then quit the browser, reopen it, and try signing in again. You may need to update your browser. To access archives.newyorker.com, use the login you created on newyorker.com or through our magazine app for tablets and smartphones. Q. How do I search for articles at archives.newyorker.com?
A. Hit SEARCH in the bottom toolbar, then type in your search term. Choose whether you want to search the current issue or the entire archive, using the red tabs. “OCR” search will scan every single word in the issue, including those in advertisements.

Q. How can I share articles from archives.newyorker.com?
A. Because only subscribers can access the archive, we do not allow sharing at this time. However, for everything published since 2007, you can share the equivalent newyorker.com page, which is a full version of the story, and, for older pieces, a summary of the story, plus a link to view it in the archive viewer, and a prompt to sign in or subscribe for access. Just search for the story on newyorker.com and share from there.

Q. How can I print articles from archives.newyorker.com?
A. Hit PRINT in the bottom toolbar, then click once on every page you want to print. A printer icon will appear at the top of each page once you have selected it. When you have selected the full range of pages you want to print, hit the red PRINT button.

Q. How do I enlarge the text in the archive viewer?
A. Click once on the page to enlarge it.

Q. Is the archive viewer optimized for tablet browsers?
A. Yes. If you visit archives.newyorker.com on a tablet browser, you will see a version of our archive viewer that has been optimized for a tablet screen. However, the viewer still presents a replica of the printed magazine page.

Q. Can I buy single issues through the archive viewer?
A. We no longer offer single digital issues for purchase through our archive viewer, but monthly digital subscriptions offer access at a similar price. You can also buy single copies of our magazine app for tablets and smartphones. However, issues published prior to our launch date on each device are not available on that device. A. Back issues may be available if you already have access to your subscription on a device. If you want to purchase a single back issue, the issue may be available on some devices. A. Goings On is a free guide to New York City culture from the staff of The New Yorker, with searchable listings and audio tours by our writers. It’s the Goings On About Town section of our magazine, which features arts and entertainment coverage—specifically, things to do in New York City—optimized for mobile use, and supplemented with additional content. Q. What is the New Yorker Festival app? How do I download it?
A. A. If you purchased a subscription directly from Barnes & Noble or Next Issue Media, your subscription is not available on the iPhone at this time. If you subscribed directly from Amazon on the Kindle Fire, you may have access if you entered an e-mail address and created a password for additional benefits when you purchased your subscription. Q. I bought my subscription directly through the App Store. How do I get my unlimited access to newyorker.com and archives.newyorker.com?
A. If you have not yet set up your digital-access e-mail address and password, you can do so by going to the Newsstand folder on your iPad and opening the New Yorker app. Tap on MY ACCOUNT and then “Complete account setup for iPad subscribers” to create a login.

Q. I live in Canada and I am having trouble getting access to the magazine app for tablets and smartphones using my print-subscription information. Can you help?

Q. If I cancel my subscription, when does the cancellation go into effect?
A. The cancellation will go into effect immediately, but please keep in mind that we date our magazines a few weeks ahead of time, so you may receive one or two additional issues.

A. Yes, you will get a prorated refund based on the number of unserved copies.

Q. If I cancel my subscription, do I still have access to my old issues through my tablet or smartphone app?

Q. Why do I need to provide a mailing address for a digital subscription?
A. Should your e-mail address ever become undeliverable, we will use your street address as an alternate means of notification for your subscription.

Q. How can I cancel my print subscription and continue with digital only?

Q. What if I suspend my print subscription? Do I still get access to newyorker.com, the archive, and your app for tablets and smartphones?
A. During the time that your subscription is suspended, you will have limited access at newyorker.com. You will be able to enjoy the home page, section pages, the video hub, Goings On About Town listings, and six articles per month. The archive is available to active subscribers only. You will continue to have access to your old issues through your tablet or smartphone app. When your subscription is reinstated, full digital access will resume.
