Men greatly outnumber women in the STEM subjects: Science, technology, engineering, and math. But why is that? Everywhere we hear about massive gender bias against women in these fields, but what if it's just not true? In the first episode of "Tough Sh*t", host Michelle Boley breaks down gender disparities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields, and pokes fun at performance review gender bias in a comedic sketch. ***** Tough Sh*t! was made as part of the YouTube "Women Create" Initiative, and was created, written, and directed entirely by women. "It was an amazing process and I am so grateful to YouTube and TYT Network for their support," creator and director Michelle Boley said in a behind-the-scenes interview. "I wish more resources were available for women to get their voices out there and be real! This initiative definitely shows that the creative talent is there, now we just need more money, resources and distribution outlets to open those doors." Boley adds, “Women consume mo...
According to a new U.S. Census Bureau report, college students with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or STEM degrees have a greater chance of finding employment after graduation, but not necessarily in their field of study. The report says very few science majors are working in STEM fields, with only 26 percent of people with a physical science degree work in STEM jobs. The report also says 15 percent of biological, environmental and agricultural science majors, 10 percent psychology, and 7 percent of social science majors are actually employed in their STEM fields. According to Dr. Jim Peach, Regents Professor of Economics and International Business at New Mexico State University, the idea that everyone with a STEM degree is going to work in their field is not suppor...

There is a lot of resources being allocated into STEM fields. It is worth knowing about. Would you like to study engineering in Rome? Would you like to study math in Spain? Would you like to study biology in the jungles of Costa Rica? Would you like to study computer science in England? If so, the poach a scholarship in the STEM field and use it for study abroad. If not, then great! You know one more thing you don't want to do.

Read your free e-book: http://hotaudiobook.com/mebk/50/en/B00OZLQ3OM/book Across the world Stem (learning and work in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) has taken central importance in education and the economy in a way that few other disciplines have. Stem competence has become seen as key to higher productivity, technological adaptation and research-based innovation. No area of educational provision has a greater current importance than the Stem disciplines yet there is a surprising dearth of comprehensive and world-wide information about Stem policy, participation, programs and practice. The Age of Stem is a state of the art survey of the global trends and major country initiatives in Stem. It gives an international overview of issues such as:stem strategy and coordinatio...

Survey data collected from graduate students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) at Berkeley suggest that both underrepresented minority and women graduate students publish fewer papers as graduate students, on average, than majority male students. While not definitive, the survey data suggest reasons for this disparity. This and other studies indicate that performance expectations and how they are communicated in different departments might explain observed patterns of disparities in publishing. Mitigating against the effects of unclear expectations may be crucial for ensuring that minority students are fully competitive when applying for academic positions, and hence crucial to diversifying the academy.Join us as we discuss disparities between minority and majori...
