Palayamkottai

Palayamkottai (Palamcottah Tamil: பாளையங்கோட்டை  pronunciation ), known as the "Oxford of South India", is a town in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. It is part of the Tirunelveli city corporation. It is on the eastern bank of the Thamirabarani river, while its twin city Tirunelveli is on the western bank.

Etymology

The archaic word Palayamkottai in Tamil means a small administrative region or district. A Kottai is a fort. The portmanteau Tamil word Palayamkottai was hence derived historically from an ancient fort that was in the centre of the region. Today, the fort lies in ruins and is almost camouflaged by its surrounding old residential edifices. To anyone who reads about Palayamkottai for the first time, it may be surprising to see that atlases and other books refer to the city with both, an M or an N (Palayamkottai or Palayankottai). This uncertainty is because the actual Tamil word for the city uses an alphabet that is phonetically between M and N, and sometimes even completely substituted by G (pronounced Palayangkottai in colloquial Tamil). Natively speaking, it is hence correctly pronounced as Palayamnkottai. Historically during the British Raj, the area was referred to as Palancottah and also Palamkottah. The anglicization of the word was dropped by the locals immediately after independence, and the city is now called both Palayankottai and Palayamkottai according to official government documents and records. For disambiguation, the city is referred to as Palayamkottai in this article.

Malini 22 Palayamkottai

Malini 22 Palayamkottai (or Malini 22) is a 2014 Indian film, directed by Sripriya. It stars Nithya Menen in the title role while Krish J. Sathaar and Naresh play supporting roles. A remake of the Malayalam film 22 Female Kottayam (2012) by Aashiq Abu, the film features musical score by Arvind-Shankar. It was released on 24 January 2014.

Plot

Malini (Nithya Menen), a nurse from Palayamkottai, works in Chennai. She dreams of going to Canada to make it big in her life. Varun (Krish J Sathar) works for a consultancy service and helps her complete all the formalities. While Malini awaits for her visa, Varun tries to woo her and she in turn falls in love with him.

Malini stays at Varun's apartment, gets seduced by his charms, and they both get intimate. The next day, when Malini is alone, Varun's boss Prakash (Naresh) comes and rapes her. Varun vows to take revenge and convinces Malini that they relocate to Coimbatore. There she gets arrested for carrying illegal drugs and is lodged in prison. She finds out that Varun and his partner-in-crime Prakash have conspired to get her arrested. The rest of the story is about how she takes revenge against Varun and Prakash.

Nithya Menen

Nithya Menen is an Indian film actress and playback singer. She has acted in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada language films, as well as an English film.

Early life

Nithya Menen was born in Bengaluru, Karnataka to a Malayali family and studied journalism at the Manipal Institute of Communication. She once said in an interview that she never wished to become an actress but a journalist, as she was "an idealist", but felt journalism was "not what it used to be". She then decided to become a filmmaker as she could express her ideas "better through films", and enrolled for a course in cinematography at the FTII Pune. During the entrance examination, she met Nandini Reddy, who "brainwashed" and convinced her to take up acting. Vamshidhar Reddy would later turn director and sign Nithya for the lead female role in her first project.

Career

Menen appeared first on screen as a child artist when she was ten in the Indian English language film, The Monkey Who Knew Too Much (1998), playing the younger sister to Tabu's character. The 2008 off-beat film Aakasha Gopuram, directed by National Film Award-winning director K. P. Kumaran, marked her debut in a leading role, in which she was paired with Mohanlal. She was in the midst of her 12th class exams when she was offered the role, after Mohanlal had spotted her on the front cover of a tourism magazine, Stark World Kerala. Her performance was well received, with critics writing that she shows "sparkle in her debut venture" and "makes her entry in an impressive role", though the film, based on the Norwegian play The Master Builder, got mixed reviews and was a financial failure. She next made her Kannada debut with the film Josh. She played a supporting role in the film, which received rave reviews, and became a commercial success as well, with her performance garnering her a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 57th Filmfare Awards South.

Bose Venkat

Bose Venkat (born 15 May 1975) is an Indian film actor who appears in Tamil films and television serials.

He is married to actress Sonia in 2003. The couple have a son, Tejaswin and a daughter, Bavadarani .

Careers

Bose Venkat came to Chennai at the age of 17, hoping to make it big in films. After facing an unsuccessful start to his career, he worked briefly as an auto rickshaw driver while attending auditions. He subsequently got selected for a role in the soap Metti Oli. Recognising his work in the serial, director Bharathiraja offered him a role in Eera Nilam (2002).

Krish J. Sathaar

Krish J. Sathaar (born as Unnikrishnan) is an Indian film actor and entrepreneur who primarily works in Malayalam and Tamil films.

Career

Krish was born to actors Sathaar and Jayabharathi on 14 September 1984. He has studied engineering and pursued a master's degree in management as well. Krish was working in America after he completed his studies in England.

Being born into a film family, he received several acting offers. He chose the Mohanlal starrer Ladies and Gentleman directed by the very successful film maker Siddique as his debut vehicle. He was pursuing a course at the New York Film Academy before entering the film industry. In 2014, he made his Tamil film debut in Malini 22 Palayamkottai directed by Sripriya, the Tamil remake of Aashiq Abu's, 22 Female Kottayam. His upcoming film is To Noora with Love in which he plays a happy-go-lucky guy. He had agreed to be part of the film Thakkali but later opted out due to date issues.
