The Brain for Kids - What is the brain and how does it work?
Educational video for children to learn what the brain is, which are its parts and how it works. The brain is in charge of coordinating all vital functions of our body and gives meaning to what is happening around us. It receives signals from our environment and sends messages to different parts of our body so that they would respond adequately. The brain is divided into three parts: the cerebellum, the encephalic trunk and the cerebral cortex. In this video we're going to look at each part's function with specific examples. The video also explains the division of the brain into two hemispheres: the right hemisphere which is the location of intuition or creativity and the left hemisphere, which controls tasks like calculating, reasoning or language.

You have 3 brains. This is how to use them | Robert Sapolsky

What's the best way to think about the brain? While most of us think of it as a dense gray matter that’s separate from the physical body, that actually couldn’t be further from the truth. Our brain is actually made up of 3 layers, and each layer not only directly impacts the other, but has control over the physical body and how you feel. Neurologist Robert Sapolsky explores these separate brain systems as individual characters, all with different goals and motives.
The brain comes in 3 functional layers: the reptilian brain, the limbic system, and the cerebral cortex. The ...

Step right up, I'm a reasonable guy.
Don't be frightened by the look in my eye.

Well, I'm just shy and scared in this place.

What weighs about three pounds, uses electrical impulses, and stores unlimited amounts of information or data? Your brain! In this video for kids, you will learn a lot more about this fascinating organ of the human body that is almost like a computer. As the main part of the central nervous system, the brain has lot of important functions. This video will teach you about six parts of the brain and what they do.
The cerebrum is the biggest part of the brain. It makes up about 85% of the brain's weight. It allows us to control voluntary muscles so they can do things like kick a ball, walk down the street, or jump in the air. It also allows us to think. We depend on this important part of the brain when it comes to remembering things as well.
The brain stem, which connects the brain to the spinal cord, is responsible for things like breathing, digesting food, and circulating blood throughout the body. It controls involuntary muscles, which are the muscles that work on their own. For instance, the brain stem tells the heart to pump blood or the stomach muscles to break food down. It is below the cerebrum and in front of the cerebellum. Speaking of the cerebellum, this part of the brain controls balance, movement, and coordination. Without it, you would have trouble moving around.
The other three parts are the pituitary gland, the hypothalamus, and the amygdala. The pituitary gland controls how the body grows by producing and releasing hormones. Without it, you would never grow as you age. The hypothalamus controls the temperature of your body. When it's hot, it tells your body to sweat, and it tells your body to shiver when it's cold. And the amygdala is like the control center for feelings and is responsible for your emotions.

On Wednesdays at Hammersmith Hospital in London, a few recently preserved human brains are dissected according to an international protocol and stored in a tissue bank for further research.
The brains have mostly been donated by people with Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis (both degenerative and incurable diseases of the central nervous system), but control samples of healthy brains are required too.
This documentary is a modified version of one which appears in the Brains exhibition at Wellcome Collection, with an added commentary from the neuropathologist, Steve Gentleman. It conveys the craft discipline exercised by scientists in their quest to understand these often-tragic conditions.

The reptilian brain controls the regulatory systems in your body like hormones, body temperature, blood pressure, and even hunger. The limbic system is the emotional function of your brain, making you feel fear, anger, joy, or gratitude. Finally, the cerebral cortex is the most evolved part of the brain that oversees impulse control, decision making, and long-term planning.
With a better understanding of how each part of the brain functions, we can have more mindful thoughts that will influence more favorable decision-making and outcomes in life. For example, when you think of your favorite memory or something that makes you happy, your reptilian brain will quickly cool down your body and even lower your blood pressure. This can then lead to feeling less stressed, and finding more joy throughout the day.

Do we inhabit a multiverse? Do we have free will? What is love? Is evolution directional? There are no simple answers to life’s biggest questions, and that’s why they’re the questions occupying the world’s brightest minds.
So what do they think?
How is the power of science advancing understanding? How are philosophers and theologians tackling these fascinating questions?
Let’s dive into The Well.

LYRICS:
BRAINS!!!
Well hello there little boy.
Don't be shy.
Step right up, I'm a reasonable guy.
Don't be frightened by the look in my eye.
I'm just your average evil meteor from outta the sky.
Well, I'm just shy and scared in this place.
I'm just a fish outta water from outer space.
You can see that the trip has left me tired and drained
so why don't you be a pal...
And bring me some BRAINS!
Go down to your neighbor's place.
See the dull expression on his face.
You'd be doing him a favor if you brought him to me.
He ain't using his brain he's just watching TV!
Go down to Mr. McGee's
He hasn't had a thought since '43.
His brain is the portrait of atrophy.
He ain't using it, why not give it to me?
BRAINS, BRAINS, I won't lie,
I'll eat their brains 'til they're zombified.
Sure they might think it's deranged,
but they won't give it a thought
after I've eaten their brain.
BRAINS, BRAINS, It's okay.
It's not a matter if it isn't gray,
And if at first they think it's strange,
they won't think twice
If they don't have a brain!
Go down to the Wonton shop.
My fortune cookie says that I just can't stop.
I suck the noodle right out of their heads
ANd half an hours later, I'm hungry again!
Creep into the donut stop.
Sneak in tip-toe past the cop.
Pick me up a cruller and a cupful of tea
and any other sweetbreads you happen to see.
BRAINS, BRAINS, I won't lie,
I'll eat their brains 'til they're zombified.
Sure they might think it's deranged,
but they won't give it a thought
after I've eaten their brain.
BRAINS, BRAINS, It's okay.
It's not a matter if it isn't gray,
And if at first they think it's strange,
they won't think twice
If they don't have a brain!
Brains, Brains, I love 'em, I need 'em...
My tummy jumps for joy when I eat 'em.
Big ones, fat ones, short ones, tall ones.
They're so delectable, especially the small ones.
No time to cook 'em in a skillet.
My belly's rumblin', I got a need to fill it.
I don't fry 'em, the heat will only shrink 'em,
I'll just grab myself a straw and I drink 'em!!!(ohhhhhhh...)
You've been swell to go around
and bring me every single brain in town
but with all these brains, I can't help but think
that there isn't one left out there to drink.
Now fess up boy, come on, heck!
Is there someone that you're trying to protect?
Bring her down here to meet her end
and I promise I'll be your bestest friend.
BRAINS, BRAINS, I won't lie,
I'll eat their brains 'til they're zombified.
Sure they might think it's deranged,
but they won't give it a thought
after I've eaten their brain.
BRAINS, BRAINS, It's okay.

BRAINS.....
Bring me her Brain.....
BRING ME HER BRAIN!!!!!!!! x2

Can we, as adults, grow new neurons? Neuroscientist Sandrine Thuret says that we can, and she offers research and practical advice on how we can help our brains better perform neurogenesis—improving mood, increasing memory formation and preventing the decline associated with aging along the way.
