"People are always asking me, 'Who will you pass the torch to?' The question makes me angry," Gloria Steinem says. "There is no one torch—there are many torches—and I’m using my torch to light other torches." Jane Kramer profiles the eighty-one-year-old activist.
“I’m an entrepreneur of social change,” Steinem says. “I talk. I write. I tell stories. I want to do justice to the women I meet.” Credit Photograph by Inez and Vinoodh for The New Yorker

When Joshua Rothman interviewed the actress Julianna Margulies at the New Yorker Festival, he asked her about a long-rumored, real-life feud. It ignited a series of events that seemed like a plot right out of "The Good Wife."

In this week's issue, Kathryn Schulz reads Henry David Thoreau’s “Walden” and argues that a man often cast as a champion was actually, "in the fullest sense of the word, self-obsessed."
Why, given his hypocrisy, sanctimony, and misanthropy, has Thoreau been so cherished? Credit Illustration by Eric Nyquist

that's some gutsy stuff....glad they tried and I would've hoped the presidents would have at least tried their food....hope it wasn't cause it was "garbage"....maybe they should be aware of how much "food" is wasted, and what it could become....not everyone can eat caviar all the time.
