Justice pour les victimes de bavures policières!

MARCHE COMMÉMORATIVE
...SAMEDI
23 octobre, 12h30

Justice for Victims of Police Killings!

COMMEMORATIVE MARCH
SATURDAY
, October 23, 12:30pm
Gathering at the corner of Guy & de Maisonneuve
(métro Guy-Concordia, Guy exit)
facebook event:

We remember: Anas Bennis, Claudio Castagnetta, Ben Matson, Quilem Registre, Gladys Tolley, Fredy Villanueva and all the other victims of police killings.

JOIN US on the North American Day to Stop Police Brutality & Repression to show your support and solidarity with all victims of police killings. Together with the families and supporters of police victims, we demand truth, justice and dignity.

Family friendly - Welcome to all!
INFO: 514-848-7583 – 22oct.mtl@gmail.com -- www.22octobre.net
----------

The families of people killed by the police, their friends and their allies are organizing a commemorative vigil and march to remember victims. These families, who face an uphill battle in uncovering the truth and obtaining justice for their loved ones, need our support.

Friday, October 22: There will be a family-led vigil in front of the Police Brotherhood (480 Gilford St., Laurier metro, St-Joseph exit) between 4 and 6 p.m. We will end the vigil by lighting candles in memory of the victims of police killings.

Saturday, October 23: There will be a family-led, family-friendly march against the systemic impunity in the face of police killings and police violence. The march will begin at 12:30 p.m. on the corner of Guy St. and de Maisonneuve. We strongly encourage as many supporters as possible to come out on the streets and show our support for the families. There is power in numbers!

What we are seeking is DIGNITY, JUSTICE and TRUTH.

The main purpose of the march is to:
- REMEMBER the victims who lost their lives to police violence and abuse and;
- SUPPORT their families in any way we can

We support the list of demands of the Bennis, Castagnetta, Matson, Registre, Tolley and Villanueva families. Their demands include:
- END police brutality
- END police impunity
- END racial, social and political profiling
- ACCESS all information in a prompt manner
- LAY criminal charges in police killings
- HOLD public independent inquiries in police killings
- APPLY the recommendations of the coroner
- STOP the use of tasers

This initiative came out of the Forum Against Police Violence and Impunity in January of 2010, during which the families expressed their desire to come together to remember their loved ones and strengthen their respective struggles for dignity, justice and the truth. The symbolic date of October 22 was subsequently chosen for a family-friendly march to commemorate the victims of police killings to coincide with the National Day of Protest in the United States organized by the October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation, which has been mobilizing every year since 1996.

We ask for your group’s endorsement. To get involved contact us at (514) 848-7583 or at 22oct-mtl@gmail.com . You can pick up flyers and posters for the event at QPIRG Concordia (1500 de Maisonneuve St. W 2nd floor).

Family friendly - Welcome to all!

ANARCHIST MUSIC VANCOUVER:
ANNE FEENEY BENEFIT CONCERT RESCHEDULED:

Hey folks if you're out Vancouver way this weekend try and check out anarchist musician Joey Only's benefit concert for singer Anne Feeney. Here's Joey's empathic appeal.
♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪
Anne Feeney Fundraiser Date Changed=October 9th

DATE CHANGED FOR MY ANNE FEENEY FUNDRAISER!!!!
TO HELP COVER HER CANCEROUS CANCER BILLS!!
NOW SATURDAY OCTOBER 9th AT CAFE RHIZOMENEAR MAIN STREET AND BROADWAY IN VANCOUVER
8:30PM, $5-25 donation, for Anne Feeney
with Jeff Andrew, Joey Only and comrades
Howdy friends...many of you know my good friend and folk singer from Pittsburgh Painsylvania known as Anne Feeney. You ought to know her, she's been croonin songs for more than 35 years and doing it for the working class. She and I traveled around last year touring after being friends for much of the last decade and she'd never miss a chance to stop at a picket line for striking workers and sing em some songs to cheer em up...
...it was as dreary as an April hell could be when we stopped into that rainy picket outside the big steel mill in Hamilton Ontario where she lit faces up with songs against the goons and ginks and company finks. Those guys had been wanderin around in circles for weeks striking while the big bosses sez the economy's no good anymore so all these guys have to get fired so that rich pigs can stay rich pigs
...in all that time only Anne and I came to sing em some good old fashioned fighting songs and they sure did like it. Even fed us afterward. Lately she fell ill with some cancer, a big tumor in her lung nearly half a foot big? Imagine having half a cancerous foot in your lung? Down in Pittsburgh the system doesn't care if you can afford to live or not, so it's up to me and my friends to raise a few bucks to ease the burden on her lungs, brains and hearts because Obama won't do it for her. Hell, when I was sick with tuberculosis and dying she went out of her way for me
...so I would be an ungrateful bastard if I didn't do something back. All her beautiful curly Irish hair fell out and she looks sorta funny now, which is all the more reason to have pity on her and send her some money so she can pay her hospital bills or at least buy a wig...or a hat. And you know, us Irish folk are like Samson..when we're sober all our power comes from our hair!
So the date has changed from the 8th to the 9th...or maybe it didn't change and I was just wrong all a long. At any rate, I hope that wouldn't hold you back from coming out to the cafe, having some soup or beer or beer-soup and having a good old time with us there. And if we can send Anne $5 or $500 it would be something she didn't have already
...I guess I mean to say I am hoping more than one person comes cause five bucks sucks when you're in the hole ten grand! How bout it friends...let's party like it's 1999. If you want to know more about my radical folk singing comrade Anne Feeney, who Utah Philips once called the greatest labor singer in North America...go to her website and lookie for yourself. (www.annefeeney.com ). She's one of those IWW (Industrial Workers of the World types..she gave everything to everyone else and has nothing left for herself. Anyway, there's no room for sectarian crap at this event..just room to sing a few Feeney songs and have a good old time...and if you don't have any plans and you don't like hockey but decide not to come anyway, you must be a heartless capitalist pig, why else would you sit at home doing nothing but facebookin people who don't even care about you
...come out and see some real people instead. till then my friends

CANADIAN POLITICS INTERNATIONAL POLITICS:
PITY SOUTH KOREA:

Now this is getting a jump on things. Having experienced what happens at summits directly people in Toronto are going to be demonstrating next Friday at the Korean Consulate to protest the next G20 summit to be held in November in guess what country. Here's the callout from the Toronto Community Solidarity Network.

Call for Action:
The G20 Sucks! Our Condolences to South Korea

October 1st- International Day of Action against the pre-Summit attack on Democratic and Human Rights in South Korea

Three months have passed since the G20 invaded Toronto. Behind miles of security fencing and lines of riot police, representatives from the world’s twenty richest countries and central bank governors met to discuss and further implement their policies of systemic exploitation and destruction. Citywide mobilizations greeted the summit as communities took to the streets in opposition to the G20 and everything it stands for.

Our resistance was met by state-sanctioned violence, police brutality, harassment, and intimidation. The criminalization of dissent is ongoing and our communities are still feeling the painful repercussions. The healing process will be a long one.

Unfortunately, the G20 continues and this upcoming November will spread its terror elsewhere. The legacy of the G20 summit, widespread repression, the targeting of community activists and the attacks on democratic and human rights will be brought to South Korea. To our allies and our friends organizing in Seoul we send our condolences.

For all they are currently going through, for all they will surely have to deal with as the summit approaches we send our condolences. We realize the G20 is nothing to celebrate, but rather something to ragefully mourn. And so, on October 1st, the ‘International Day of Action against the pre-Summit attack on Democratic and Human Rights in South Korea’ we will gather in front of the South Korean Consulate (555 Avenue rd.) at 5pm to deliver the following demands to the South Korean government:

1. The G20 Summit is NO excuse! Stop the crackdown on migrants, street vendors and homeless people!

2. Honour international labour standards and ILO recommendations! Stop labour repression and labour flexibilisation policies!

3. Repeal the “Special Law on the Safe Escort of the G20 Summit” and end repression of the rights to freedom of expression and assembly!

Come out in solidarity and show your support for all those organizing against the G20 in Seoul! Food will be served, and materials will be on hand to construct condolence cards and paper flowers that will be put together in a creative package to be sent to our comrades organizing in South Korea.

CANADIAN ANARCHIST MOVEMENT LONDON ONTARIO:
THE LONDON ANARCHIST BOOKFAIR:
It's another first. Anarchist bookfairs are popping up all over the place, and the latest domino to fall is London Ontario. Here's the announcement of the first anarchist bookfair in that town from Linchpin, the website of the Ontario platformist group Common Cause.
@@@@@@@@@@

London, Ontario Anarchist Bookfair

The London, Ontario Anarchist Bookfair and Gathering is scheduled to take place on Saturday October 23rd. This is our first of what we hope will be many annual bookfairs and your participation would be much appreciated. With the attention focused on anarchists recently it is important to offer folks outside of our communities a chance to see what it really is all about and dispel media myths. It is equally important that we gather to further strengthen and build our movements to carry forward with our agendas of radical transformations.

Calling all anarchist distros and publishers! We are not charging anything for tables, but we ask that a small percentage of profits, after expenses, be donated to the bookfair to allow it to sustain itself and grow.

Present a workshop! We are running workshops throughout the day and are excited to hear from you if you have a workshop you’d like to present. We will do our best to accommodate all workshop requests.

Everybody! We have an interest in helping meet your housing, childcare and transportation needs and the venue is accessible. Food Not Bombs will be providing food and we plan on having a social event in the evening including performances by talented anarchists…

Get in touch if you’d like to table, present a workshop, or simply attend so that we can help meet your needs and answer any questions.

AMERICAN LABOUR MINNEAPOLIS:
JIMMY JOHNS WORKERS FILM SHOWING:

As part of their continuing organizing efforts the IWW Jimmy Johns Workers Union are showing the film 'Eyes on the Fries' about working conditions in the fast food industry. Here's the promo.>>>
IWWIWWIWWIWW

Jimmy John's Workers Union Film Showing of "Eyes on the Fries"
Twin Cities IWW

Time Thursday, September 30 · 6:00pm - 8:00pm

------------------------
Location West Bank, U of M, exact location TBA

------------------------

More Info
Join us for a free showing of the 20-minute film "Eyes on the Fries", which offers a look into the current system of labor in the low-wage service sector. After the film, there will be a discussion/q&a session with a panel of Jimmy John's workers who have been active in the union organizing effort.

From the website progressivefilms.org:

"Low wages, erratic schedules, no health care, work-school conflicts. This film looks beyond the stereotypes of carefree and undeserving youth to uncover a reality that millions of young working people know all too well: no matter how hard you work and how well you do in school, it can be difficult to stay afloat when you're coming of age in a "McJob" economy. But there are ways to improve things - and young people are taking the lead.

"Examines the rise of the low wage service sector and what it means for a generation of young Americans whose lives depend on it. Also features the successful struggle to raise the minimum wage in San Francisco, and the daily struggles of young workers from Oakland to New York."

Producer: Jeremy Blasi (Center for Labor Research and Education)
Director/Editor: Casey Peek

And from jimmyjohnsworkers.org:

"The union campaign at Jimmy Johns could hold deep implications for other companies in the fast food industry, a sector known for the lowest rates of unionization- and lowest wages- in the United States. Only 1.8% of food service workers were represented by a union in 2009, far below the nation-wide figure of 12.3%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The question of unionization of the food and service industries looms is assuming greater focus as employment in these non-union sectors increases, while manufacturing, the traditional stronghold of unionization, slides further into decline.

"The Jimmy Johns Workers Union, open to employees at the company nationwide, is affiliated with the Industrial Workers of the World labor union. Gaining prominence in recent years for organizing Starbucks workers, the IWW is a global union founded over a century ago for all working people."

WE HAVE NO LEADERS! Benefit show for Kelly Pflug-Back
Mike XVX, Jeff Andrew, Star, Comrade Black, Chase, Sasha n Nedjo & more friends
$5-$15 sliding scale, no one turned away! All money raised goes to Kelly's legal defence
7:30 pm, BCGEU, 2994 Douglas St (PLEASE NOTE NEW ADDRESS)

Kelly Pflug-Back is a long time community organizer, whom has been targeted by the police and scape-goated as "the leader of the black bloc" from the G20. She is facing 13 charges including conspiracy, and mischief. The courts are viewing her charges as "hate crimes" against the police, meaning if she is convicted she will be given a stiffer sentence than normal.

This is a blatant misuse of hate crime legislation originally intended to protect identifiable minorities from racist, homophobic or sexist violence. We believe Kelly is being targeted for her roll as a community organizer doing anti-racist and anti-poverty work in her community.

URBAN CAPTURE THE FLAG
8:00 pm in Bastion Square

Capture the Flag is a team-based game popularized by the Boy Scouts of America as a way to prepare boys for conscription during the World Wars. Urban Capture the Flag (UCTF) is a 21st Century detournement of this practice, primarily organized by anarchists in North America as a way to build community, reclaim the streets and public space, develop insurrectionary and protest tactics for affinity groups, produce a counter-spectacle for passers-by and build group morale through risk-taking together.

PRISONS AT THE FRONT LINE OF REVOLUTION
A Victoria Anarchist Reading Circle event with Juliet Belmas
7:30 pm Camas Books, 2590 Quadra Street

After a lengthy prison term for smashing the state, Juliet Belmas has gone on to produce several award-winning short films about women in prison. Her painterly cinematic style and experimental production values have been characterized ‘subtle, yet harrowing.’ This evening she will discuss the politics of incarceration, including recent round-ups at the G-20 summit in Toronto, and why prisons are a “front-line” in the anarchist struggle. ( Sad as it is we have to interrupt this recorded announcement here and now. Julie "fucking" Belmas !!! Now I can die happy because I have indeed seen everything. It's things like this that make me doubt the sanity of some of my presumed "comrades". I have learned over the years that the way they see "reality" is quite different from the way I see it or, more importantly the way that over 99% of the population views it. And I think that a "health warning" should be put on much of their pronouncements insofar as the stated content is quite remote from their actual motivations. If I didn't claim the "anarchist" label I'd perhaps feel pity rather than annoyance. On the other hand I see what I have been doing for almost 40 years as 'politics', and they see it as ???? )

END:CIV SCREENING
Franklin López--Director/Producer, subMedia
7:30 pm, Camas Books, 2590 Quadra Street

END:CIV examines our culture’s addiction to systematic violence and environmental exploitation, and probes the resulting epidemic of poisoned landscapes and shell-shocked nations. Based in part on Endgame, the best-selling book by Derrick Jensen, END:CIV asks: "If your homeland was invaded by aliens who cut down the forests, poisoned the water and air, and contaminated the food supply, would you resist?"

Taking the long view: endless economic growth has turned into a global economic crash. What will the next hundred years bring? Students of history know that all civilizations eventually come to an end. The ancient Mayans, the dynasties of China, and the mighty Roman Empire, as long-lived and powerful as they were, could not escape this inevitability. The same goes for the culture we call Western Civilization. The causes underlying the collapse of civilizations are usually traced to overuse of resources. As we write this, the world is reeling from economic chaos, peak oil, climate change, environmental degradation, and political turmoil. Every day the headlines re-hash stories of scandal and betrayal of the public trust. We don't have to make outraged demands for the end of the current global system -- it seems to be coming apart already.

But acts of courage, compassion and altruism abound, even in the most damaged places. By documenting the resilience of the people hit hardest by war and repression, and the heroism of those coming forward to confront the crisis head-on, END:CIV illuminates a way out of this all-consuming madness and into a saner future.
