Discover our introduction to the science of timekeeping. We love watches for many reasons, but the timepiece's main mission is to keep time. Before they became items to appreciate and wear, watches and clocks were scientific instruments that allowed humankind to conquer the world, particularly at sea. Of course, technology brought many improvements, in particular the introduction of electronic mechanisms. But these don't have the same appeal that mechanical ones do -- by far. So come with us and follow our saga of 5 episodes that begin with this question: what does it really mean to measure time?

They are spectacular, and for this reason they embody the craftsmanship of haute horlogerie. But the tourbillon and the carrousel were invented for other reasons. Their first role is to average out the impact of gravity on the movement's rate. Invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet at the end of the 17th century, the tourbillon makes the whole escapement revolve around its own axis. Created by Bahne Bonniksen in 1892, the carrousel follows the same principle but in a more secured way. -

The COSC certificate is the most widespread label validating a watch's precision. Respecting the ISO 3159 international norm, it ensures the accuracy of a movement, and rarely a finished watch. We visited one of the three workshops that control more than 1.6 million calibers every year to interview its director Andreas Wyss. He underscores one particular fact: even if the norm was implemented in 1976, the level of precision remains, in particular as the thousands of movements produced every day must respect it.

They are spectacular, and for this reason they embody the craftsmanship of haute horlogerie. But the tourbillon and the carrousel were invented for other reasons. Their first role is to average out the impact of gravity on the movement's rate. Invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet at the end of the 17th century, the tourbillon makes the whole escapement revolve around its own axis. Created by Bahne Bonniksen in 1892, the carrousel follows the same principle but in a more secured way.

We found that slowing down the time in Super Smash bros gives us more time to think of what move to pull next, and speeding up the clips back to normal speed gives the illusion that we actually know how to play this game!
