FULL CNN GOP Debate: CNN Republican Presidential Debate Part 1 Sept. 16, 2015
FULL- CNN Republican Presidential Debate, GOP DEBATE Part 1 Sept. 16, 2015.
7 things to watch at the CNN Republican debate.
Simi Valley, California (CNN)—Donald Trump will play the lead role in the second Republican presidential debate tonight -- but his rivals are jockeying to steal his spotlight.
As the GOP's frontrunner, Trump will once again take center stage at CNN's debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. With Reagan's Air Force One as the backdrop, Trump will be flanked by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has been increasingly eager to take on the combative businessman.
Meanwhile, one newcomer to the prime-time debate -- Carly Fiorina -- seems poised and ready to take on Trump directly.
With the Iowa caucuses less than five months away and pressure mounting for the middle-tier candidates, the CNN debate offers an opening for candidates to deliver a presidential performance -- and avoid getting lost in the Donald Trump show. But a misstep could damage their presidential prospects.
Here are seven things to watch in tonight's debate:
What will Trump say this time?
The question isn't whether Trump will shock and awe -- but how?
At last month's GOP debate, the wealthy real estate magnate had the audience both booing and cheering within minutes of taking the stage, when he refused to rule out a third-party run and took a shot at comedian Rosie O'Donnell.
His unorthodox performance has only fueled his popularity -- his national numbers have gone up and he's leading in key states like Iowa and New Hampshire.
But while Trump will no doubt deliver another explosive performance Wednesday, the debate stage this week will probably feel more hostile than last time.
Trump vs. Fiorina
Can Fiorina do the impossible -- and upstage The Donald?
With a standout performance at the first GOP debate and a subsequent uptick in the polls, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO won a spot at the main debate alongside her top-ranking rivals. With her quick, effortless delivery and sharp attack lines, Fiorina seems one of the best equipped in Wednesday's lineup to take Trump head-on.
Dan Pfeiffer, former adviser to President Barack Obama, said Monday on "The Lead" that Trump may be better off staying away from Fiorina altogether.
What hand will Carson play?
Carson's devout faith is one of his most powerful political assets.
A Seventh Day Adventist, Carson speaks openly about his spiritual beliefs on the campaign trail. His appeal to evangelicals is proving to be particularly potent in a state like Iowa, which has a sizeable population of born-again Christians.
The Bush reboot
Under fire from Trump for lacking charisma, Bush is trying to ditch his old self. The new Bush is more confrontational, personable and energetic.
The reboot signals an acknowledgment that taking the backseat and waiting for Trump's campaign to implode is -- at least right now -- a losing game.
Can Scott Walker salvage his campaign?
He was supposed to be an A-list candidate.
But these days, Walker is simply trying to stop the slide in his poll numbers.
The Wisconsin governor has lost his lead in Iowa, a state now dominated by Trump. Only 3% of GOP caucus-goers in the Hawkeye State said they were supporting Walker in a recent Quinnipiac University poll.

Carly Fiorina
For the second debate in a row, Fiorina was once again the breakout star of the night, taking on Republican front-runner Donald Trump with finesse and capturing the crowd with polished, zinging answers and an impassioned charge against abortion.
Fiorina earned perhaps the biggest applause of the night as she skewered Planned Parenthood.
Fiorina dodged an early opportunity to hit Trump but didn't make that mistake again when she was asked to address the businessman's recent comments about her appearance to Rolling Stone, in which he suggested her face would make her unelectable.
Fiorina takes on Trump
New York journalist and CNN contributor Errol Louis said after the debate that Fiorina was "the clearest winner."
Marco Rubio
Rubio proved Wednesday night why so many GOP elites have long considered him a top contender for the Republican nomination: He can weave his strong handle of policy with a compelling personal narrative.
Rubio took on Trump differently than Fiorina or Bush, dispatching the front-runner without attacking him directly, instead steering the debate toward his strengths.
When Trump pointed out Rubio's voting absences in the Senate, Rubio refused to retort with an attack of his own.
Jeb Bush
"You know what? As it relates to my brother, there's one thing I know for sure. He kept us safe," Bush told Trump to one of his strongest applause moments of the night. "You remember the fire fighter with his arms around it? He sent a clear signal that the United States would be strong and fight Islamic terrorism, and he did keep us safe."
And he also successfully tackled Trump over the billionaire's suggestion that Bush's Mexican-American wife was the reason for his support for comprehensive immigration reform.
"To subject my wife into the middle of a raucous political conversation was completely inappropriate, and I hope you apologize for that, Donald," Bush said. "Why don't you apologize to her right now." Trump declined.
Chris Christie
"While I'm as entertained as anyone by this personal back-and-forth about the history of Donald and Carly's career, for the 55-year-old construction worker out in that audience tonight who doesn't have a job, who can't fund his child's education, I've got to tell you the truth. They could care less about your careers, they care about theirs," Christie said. "Let's start talking about that on this stage and stop playing -- and stop playing the games."
Earlier in the night, Christie suggested the problem with the debate was "we're fighting with each other up here" over how to approach defunding Planned Parenthood even though "we agree."
Unclear
Donald Trump
Trump stumbled in responding to Fiorina's deft answer to his comments about her face, awkwardly calling her "beautiful" after suggesting her looks would keep Americans from voting for her.
Former Bush aide and CNN political commentator Ana Navarro spoke highly of the move.
And when Bush attacked him for a "lack of judgment" and "lack of understanding about how the world works," Trump resorted to an oft-used tactic of tying Bush to his brother's presidency suggesting that "your brother's administration gave us Barack Obama because it was such a disaster ... that Abraham Lincoln couldn't have been elected."
Bush's quick answer -- that his brother kept the country safe -- knocked Trump off balance as the crowd roared in approval.
And as he faced questions over foreign policy and his flubbed response to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, who was one of the debate's questioners, Trump smartly pivoted to Hewitt, insulating himself from further attacks from his rivals.
Conservative analyst Mercedes Schlapp said Trump was silent for more than 30 minutes of discussion n serious policy issues.

'Donald Trump Interview CNN'' Donald Trump Interview Chris Cuomo' 'Donald Trump CNN Interview' CNN Chris Cuomo takes on Clinton, Bush and the Pope Donald Trump Interview on CNN Donald Trump takes on Clinton, Bush and the Pope CNN Special Report: The Donald Trump interview" at 9 p.m. ET for CNN's Chris Cuomo's full sit-down interview with Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.
New York (CNN)Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump took on an array of subjects and political figures during a lengthy interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo on Wednesday, including Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush, Pope Francis and even Caroline Kennedy.
Asked first about his standing in a recent CNN/ORC poll, Trump said the controversy surrounding Hillary Clinton's email use is "devastating," and that it's not surprising that he came within 6 points of the Democrat in a head-to-head polling match-up.
"I think it's devastating for the election, but I think her bigger problem is not the election. I think her bigger problem is going to be the criminal (problem)," Trump said. Immigration
Trump isn't backing down from his call to revoke automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrant parents despite concerns he'll turn Hispanic voters off to the GOP.
"I have to do the right thing," the mogul said in an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo Wednesday, when asked about his immigration plan being under fire.
Trump has called for building a wall along the border with Mexico, revoking the right to citizenship to children born the U.S. if their parents aren't documented, and for deporting undocumented immigrants and then allowing "good ones" to re-enter the country.
He has been hit with criticism from some Republicans while taking and heavy fire from the left.
He even took flak as he sat down for the interview with CNN in Trump Tower, when an onlooker in the lobby of the building shouted: "You will never win the Latino vote. The Latino (voters) don't like you."
RELATED: Trump's immigration plan: the specifics
Trump didn't respond to the heckler, and after the interview finished taping, two people watching from the crowd told Trump they were Mexican-American and would gladly support him, which he relayed to Cuomo.
"You know, this country is so politically correct. Nobody wants to take a stance on anything," Trump told Cuomo. "Now they like to use the word undocumented because it's more political -- I don't use that word. They're illegal immigrants. They came over illegally. Some are wonderful people, and they've been here for a while. They've got to go out. They've got to leave."
He did say there were "a lot of good ones" among immigrants, and that he would try to bring them back.
"These people -- the really good ones, and we have some great ones -- we're going to try and expedite so they can come back," he said. "But they're going to come back legally."
RELATED: Trump's immigration plan: the specifics
The candidate also reiterated that he believes in changing birthright citizenship -- which grants automatic citizenship to all children born in the U.S. -- though he said he wouldn't need to amend the Constitution to do it.
"No. 1, the 14th Amendment is very questionable as to whether or not somebody can come over, have a baby and immediately that baby is a citizen. OK?" Trump said. "Amending is too big a deal. It's going to take -- it'll be two terms. I'd be in my second term or my eighth year by the time -- assuming everything went smoothly. ... I believe you can win it legally."
He said people can't be allowed to just "walk over" the border to give birth.
"You have people on the border and in one day they walk over, have a baby. And now all of a sudden we're supposed to pay the baby ... medical, Social Security," Trump said.
Clinton email scandal
While he said Clinton is not his "focus right now," he predicted she would struggle to get over the bad headlines generated by the investigation into her private server and the possible transmission of classified information in her private email, as well as the money she has raked in for speeches since leaving office.
"I think that Hillary's going to have a hard time being in the election based on what's going on with the emails, the servers, maybe even the speeches," Trump said. "I think it's going to be a very hard thing for her to overcome."

CNN Town Hall: Hillary Clinton's Hard Choices (June 17, 2014)
Washington (CNN) -- Hillary Clinton did at CNN's town hall meeting on Tuesday what most politicians do: She staked out a position on some issues, catered to her base in others and avoided some questions altogether.
There were comments during her hour-long interview with CNN International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour and a studio audience at the Newseum as well as Tumblr that are sure to make the base happy.
Those included how far Clinton went to attack pro-gun activists and her states-rights approach to marijuana, which was a departure from her earlier position.
Between the answers and dodges, though, Clinton sounded, acted and presented herself very much like a candidate, not solely as a former secretary of state.
She was careful, at times, about not going too far on an issue and when asked about forward looking policy questions, she regularly used the word "we."
Clinton also entertained questions about 2016.
She said she's "not going to be rushed to" decide on whether to run for president and that she was not moving any closer to making a decision.

Odds of Trump nomination drop after debate
John Kasich
Losers
Rand Paul
Scott Walker
Ben Carson
It wasn't for a lack of opportunities: Carson got several openings to knock Trump, but refused, even when Trump put forward some sketchy scientific backing for his views on vaccines.

Trump Calls Out NBC For Citing A CNN Poll Over Their Own Poll
VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
Savannah Guthrie: Let’s turn now to Donald Trump, he joins us on the phone. Mr. Trump, good morning to you.
Donald Trump: Good morning, Savannah.
Guthrie: I will mention at the top, because I know you’ll remind me if I don’t, that you still lead in every single poll, but this latest national poll by CNN does show a decrease for you.
Donald Trump called out the network for promoting a CNN poll over their own NBC poll.
Trump: As far as the polls are concerned, the only poll you didn’t put up was the NBC poll where I’m way at the top, I’m much more than double. And I don’t understand why NBC is using a CNN poll, which was also a good poll, I’m leading by a lot. But the NBC poll that you announced yesterday was fantastic. And you didn’t talk about that.
Guthrie: No, I meant to, well I tried to.
Trump: Why aren’t you talking…? I’m just saying this: Why aren’t you talking about your own poll? Why are you showing a CNN poll? Which is very good, but not as good as the one you put up yesterday.
Guthrie: Well, I should have mentioned our NBC poll by name, but I did say at the outset that you are leading in every poll and I meant…
Trump: I know, but you put up the CNN poll, you didn’t put up the NBC poll.
Mr. Trump questioned why NBC would intentionally hide their own poll numbers.
Trump: And you’re the ones that are paying for the NBC poll, so I don’t get it, other than the NBC poll is a very good poll for Trump.
Guthrie: It’s a good poll for Trump by the way the CNN poll is a good one for you too, sir.
Trump: That’s true.
Guthrie: You’re leading by double digits.
Trump: NBC was better.
Guthrie: Thank you for your time. We always appreciate it.
Trump: Thank you very much, Savannah.
Willie Geist: Yeah, Donald’s up 15 in that NBC survey/Monkey survey.
Is this an instance of Trump being unfairly single out by the media?

From the day Ronald Reagan was shot and the crumbling of the Berlin Wall to Anita Hill’s fight on Capitol Hill and the Arab Spring, Breaking News: 35 Years of CNN will showcase more than 35 of the most iconic, defining and pivotal moments in recent history. The special report will delve deeper into six of the biggest news stories over the past three-and-a-half decades, including Baby Jessica, the first Gulf War, the O.J. Simpson trial, September 11th, Hurricane Katrina and the Boston Marathon Bombing.
Past and present CNN anchors and correspondents will walk
viewers through these events, reflecting on the stories and history they witnessed unfold first-hand, including:
Former CNN national correspondent Tony Clark and former CNN executive vice president Bob Furnad recall the marathon rescue effort to save “Baby Jessica” McClure who was trapped in a well for 58 hours. The dramatic rescue played out live on CNN, capturing the attention of a nation. It also, according to Furnad, helped CNN “solidify our presence to the public that, when there’s a major news event, you know that CNN’s gonna stay with it.”
Wolf Blitzer, who has been with CNN since 1990, and Bernard Shaw, one of CNN’s first anchors who was with the network for over two decades, recount their award-winning reporting during the Gulf War. This unprecedented coverage of a war by CNN made television history, with Shaw, John Holliman and Peter Arnett reporting live from Baghdad during the first, intense hours of battle.
Larry King, who has interviewed nearly every prominent public figure during the 25-plus years his show was on CNN, and former CNN anchor Jim Moret recollect the infamous O.J. Simpson car chase and criminal trial that dominated the air waves for nine months in 1995. “It was the first reality show,” says Moret. King, who interviewed Simpson by phone the day after his acquittal, notes “if we had God booked for that day, we would’ve bumped God.”
September 11, 2001. Former CNN anchors Aaron Brown and Paula Zahn discuss reporting from a Manhattan rooftop 30 blocks from Ground Zero, and the shock and sadness they shared with viewers on a day unlike any another in American history.
Hurricane Katrina left more than 1,800 dead and caused utter devastation along the Gulf Coast. CNN anchor Anderson Cooper and CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta remember their dismay, grief and eventual anger while reporting on the ground during the powerful storm and the devastating aftermath.
CNN national correspondent Deborah Feyerick, CNN investigative correspondent Drew Griffin and Cooper, who were all on the ground in Boston after two bombs went off on Marathon Monday, recall covering the unfolding tragedy and desperate manhunt that had the city on edge.

Marijuana should be immediately rescheduled to Schedule 3. Marijuana is less harmful than heroin, cocaine and crystal meth, with accepted medical uses in the United States, moderate potential for physical dependency in some populations and high potential for psychological dependency in some populations.
Given the need for establishing a consensus with social conservatives, Schedule 3 is the most conservative scheduling that is honest and truthful for now, although we may choose to revisit this issue again at a later date after the science is in and we know more about the issues of dependency in specific vulnerable populations from a large scale scientific perspective. We need to do this now on a bipartisan basis. It's about openness and transparency in government. We need to be told the truth and not be lied to by our government. Schedule 1 is official state propaganda hard coded into the law of the land. It's insane. It is a glaring example of official abuse of power, given what we know today.
Both Congress and the executive branch (e.g., U.S. Attorney General) have the authority to reschedule marijuana. It can be an Act of Congress or an act of an official in the executive branch.
Drug scheduling is a multiple choice with five options. The question is, "Which schedule most correctly and accurately and truthfully describes marijuana according to all available scientific evidence and medical research?" Some answers are more correct and truthful than others, as can be attested to by scientists, academics, doctors, nurses and other health care professionals. Schedule 1 is the wrong answer, based on the evidence presented in the three CNN videos above. Since it has a variety of scientifically proven medical uses and it has been proven to be safe under medical supervision, Schedule 1 is patently untruthful with respect to marijuana and there is a growing political consensus on that point. Keep in mind that heroin is a Schedule 1 drug and cocaine and crystal meth are Schedule 2 drugs. Marijuana is less addictive and dangerous than all three of these drugs and it currently has accepted medical uses in the United States. So what's the best answer? Schedule 3, of course, at the very least. Marijuana is medicine. Case closed.
(1) Schedule I. (A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse. (B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. (C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
(2) Schedule II. (A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse. (B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States or a currently accepted medical use with severe restrictions. (C) Abuse of the drug or other substances may lead to severe psychological or physical dependence.
*(3) Schedule III. (A) The drug or other substance has a potential for abuse less than the drugs or other substances in schedules I and II. (B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. (C) Abuse of the drug or other substance may lead to moderate or low physical dependence or high psychological dependence.
(4) Schedule IV. (A) The drug or other substance has a low potential for abuse relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule III (B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. (C) Abuse of the drug or other substance may lead to limited physical dependence or psychological dependence relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule III.
(5) Schedule V. (A) The drug or other substance has a low potential for abuse relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule IV. (B) The drug or other substance has a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. (C) Abuse of the drug or other substance may lead to limited physical dependence or psychological dependence relative to the drugs or other substances in schedule IV.

Odds of Trump nomination drop after debate
John Kasich
Losers
Rand Paul
Scott Walker
Ben Carson
It wasn't for a lack of opportunities: Carson got several openings to knock Trump, but refused, even when Trump put forward some sketchy scientific backing for his views on vaccines.
Mike Huckabee & Ted Cruz

Since its first broadcast on June 1, 1980, the Cable News Network has covered wars, natural disasters, acts of terror, politics and pop culture, both in America and abroad. To mark 35 years of CNN’s worldwide news coverage, the first 24-hour news channel will air a one-hour special report, looking back at the some of the biggest stories with personal accounts by the people who covered them, behind-the-scenes footage and a treasure trove of archived video.

We're also visiting a community known as "the quietest town in America" for its lack of wireless connections, radio and microwaves -- all in the name of science.

CNN's Jake Tapper Facilitates False Claim About Planned Parenthood's Abortion Services. On the August 30 edition of CNN's State of the Union, host Jake Tapper allowed Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) to make a false claim regarding Planned Parenthood's health services. Blackburn incorrectly claimed that "94 percent of their business is abortion services," and Tapper failed to correct her and ended the discussion by telling Donna Brazile and Blackburn that they must "agree to disagree." From State of the Union:
BLACKBURN: Ninety-four percent of their business, 94 percent-- 94 percent is abortion services, their own numbers -- 327,600 were abortion services.

Here are CNN's Special Reports (also see "Weed 2" at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2qFDb8LExo&list;=PL2sS6bGk1mzHh0Lz_h8jsLj87MZQhew3Y) by Dr. Sanjay Gupta showing the clear proven medical benefits of high CBD marijuana and why marijuana should not be classified as a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance by the U.S. Federal Government.
Here is Sanjay Gupta's newest high tech animation on THC and CBD in the brain, along with an interview with Congressman Scott Perry of Pennsylvania discussing his new landmark bill that would legalize low-THC high-CBD medical marijuana at the Federal level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf-iLBmf8pM&list;=PL2sS6bGk1mzHh0Lz_h8jsLj87MZQhew3Y&index;=3

Donald Trump says he "can't guarantee" that all of the workers he employs have legal status in the United States and said that if he were to discover any illegal immigrants working for him, "We would get rid of them immediately." In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper, the billionaire businessman and Republican presidential candidate addressed questions about a recent report that there are illegal immigrants working at the Old Post Office Pavilion construction site in Washington, which Trump is converting into a luxury hotel.
