Borough Market is one of the most famous and renowned fresh markets in London. Get all information here: http://migrationology.com/2014/05/borough-market-london/ There are many famous things to do in London, but if you're a food lover like I am, one of the best choices you can make it to take a trip to the historical Borough Market. The market is one of the most well-known in all of London. The history goes way back, and it was formerly a place where people came and gathered to trade and sell their fresh produce. For many years it was very informal and without structure. But the official Borough Market was established in 1885, the place that we can visit today. We were only in London for a couple of days, attending the Chowzter.com food awards (http://chowzter.com/), and one thing I knew we needed to do, was visit Borough Market with an empty stomach. It was Friday morning at about 10 AM when we decided to go - and I think it was just about a perfect time - because many of the vendors were just opening up, and the market wasn't as packed as it could be. The best things to do as soon as you arrive to Borough Market is to take a leisurely stroll around and see what is available for you to eat - there are too many things to eat in one visit, so it's important that you choose wisely, and decide what you want to eat. Some of the most famous things include the salt beef sandwich, the grilled cheese sandwich, the duck confit sandwich, chorizo, and many other delicious things. But along with cooked food, there's also a range of cured meats, and wonderful cheeses. I also really enjoyed the fresh produce, which included a nice variety of mushrooms and beautiful heirloom tomatoes. But anyway let's get back to the food, and I'm talking about the food ready to be eaten. As soon as I arrived I saw a stack of cheese and olive bread-sticks which were piled high like a pyramid. That was my first treat. The long bread-stick was crusty and embedded with salty cheese and delicious olives. While walking around, in the back part Borough Market, we decided to try a Portuguese egg tart. It was good but I thought it could've been better if it was a little warmer. Next up we tried a sausage on a stick from a place called Boston Sausage. I added a bunch of English mustard to it, and I think that's what made it so good. If you want to drink coffee, when you visit London's Borough Market you cannot miss the famous Monmouth coffee shop. It can be quite busy and hard to find a seat, so we decided just to get takeaway coffee, as I really needed something to wake me up and keep me energized to eat more. My little shot of macchiato was fantastic. Back to the food, we went to a place called Brindisa and ordered up one of their famous chorizo sandwiches. The chorizo was very tasty, and had a nice spicy flavor to it, but I thought the bread was way too big for the amount of meat. If I ordered it again, I would for sure get the double chorizo. Finally for my last sandwich at Borough Market, I went with the famous duck confit sandwich. You'll see the incredible pan of duck confit when you visit the market, and if you're like me, it should entice you to eat it immediately. When you order, the vendor fills up a bunch of duck into a ciabatta roll. The duck was incredibly tender, juicy, and oily, and it was amazingly tasty. That just about wrapped up everything I ate at Borough Market in London. There were still many more things I wanted to try, but like I said, it would be a near impossible feat to eat everything in one visit to the market. If you want to eat and you're in London, this is one of the best places to visit. Visit Borough Market information: Open for lunch on Monday -- Tuesday from 11 am -- 5 pm Full market is open on Wednesday -- Thursday from 11 am -- 5 pm, Friday from 10 am -- 6 pm, and Saturday from 8 am -- 5 pm (closed on Sunday) Prices: It would not be hard to spend 20 GBP per person eating here Website: http://boroughmarket.org.uk/ How to get to there: I think the easiest way is to take the London underground tube to London Bridge Station and then just follow the exit signs that will lead directly to Borough Market. [2014] UKSC 65 UKSC 2013/0273 Loveridge (Appellant) v Mayor and Burgesses of the London Borough of Lambeth (Respondent) On appeal from the Court of Appeal (Civil Division) (England and Wales) Mr Loveridge was a secure tenant of a one bedroom flat owned by Lambeth London Borough Council. On 9 July 2009 Mr Loveridge left the property for a lengthy visit to Ghana. He continued to pay his rent by standing order, but a concern that Mr Loveridge might have died in the property led the Council to effect forcible entry in September 2009. The Council cleared out Mr Loveridge's possessions, and found a replacement occupant. When Mr Loveridge returned his efforts to reinstate his tenancy of the property were unsuccessful. Mr Loveridge brought proceedings against the Council for unlawful eviction, and at first instance was awarded statutory damages and special damages in the total sum of £99,500. On appeal the Court of Appeal substituted agreed common law damages of £16,400. This appeal considered whether the Court of Appeal was wrong to hold that any hypothetical step a landlord could take to affect a tenant's security of tenure, but which had not actually been taken, was relevant to determining the value of the landlord's interest in a building at the time immediately before an unlawful eviction for the purposes of assessing damages under s.28 of the Housing Act 1988 ("the 1988 Act"). It also considered whether the Court of Appeal was wrong to hold that a prospective change in an occupier's rights of occupation, following an actual sale, is relevant to a calculation of s.28(1)(a) damages. The Supreme Court unanimously allows the appeal.

In this video, we meet our auntie and her family in south east London. It was nice of them to let us film part of our visit. We were discussing our Ghanaian roots and enjoying food at the same time. The SE (South Eastern) postcode area, also known as the London SE postcode area, is the part of the London post town covering part of south-east London, England. It loosely corresponds to the London Borough of Southwark, London Borough of Lewisham and Royal Borough of Greenwich, the northern part of the London Borough of Croydon, the eastern part of the London Borough of Lambeth, the western part of the London Borough of Bexley and the northwestern part of the London Borough of Bromley. The postcode area originated in 1857 as the SE district. In 1868 it gained some of the area of the abolished S district, with the rest going to SW. It was divided into numbered districts in 1917, by giving the district closest to London and the location of the head office the suffix "1" and then each district assigned a number alphabetically based on the location of the main office within the district. SE28 is a much later addition carved out of the existing districts SE2 and SE18 in order to accommodate the development of Thamesmead. Unlike in the SW postcode area, where districts are also split into two alphabetical tranches, SE1 is the only head district, and although the numbering begins again at SE19 this is not a head district. The postcode area is part of the London post town. There are no dependent localities used in the postcode area. SE1P is a non-geographic postcode district for PO boxes located in SE1. Postcode districts SE1 and SE11 have extensive River Thames frontages and are central to London. SE2–SE18 are organised in the northern part of the postcode area, with SE2, SE7, SE8, SE10, SE16 and SE18 also fronting the river. Postcode districts SE19–SE27 form a group in the southwest and SE28 is located in the extreme northeast. The postcode area maps roughly to the combined area of the London Borough of Southwark, London Borough of Lewisham and Royal Borough of Greenwich. the eastern part of the London Borough of Lambeth, the northern part of the London Borough of Croydon, the western part of the London Borough of Bexley and the northwestern part of the London Borough of Bromley are within the postcode area. Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SE_postcode_area Akan culture is one of the traditional matrilineal cultures of Africa. Akan art is wide-ranging and renowned, especially for the tradition of crafting bronze goldweights, using the lost-wax casting method. The Akan culture reached South America, Caribbean, and North America. Some of their most important mythological stories are called anansesem, literally meaning "the spider story", but in a figurative sense also meaning "traveler's tales". These "spider stories" are sometimes also referred to as nyankomsem: "words of a sky god". The stories generally, but not always, revolve around Kwaku Ananse, a trickster spirit, often depicted as a spider, human, or a combination thereof. Akan system of giving names to their Akan children is unique. Each Akan child is sometimes given his/her own personal name (first-names and sur-names) irrespective of the surname of the Akan father. The Akan first-names are usually derived from the day an Akan child was born. For an example an Akan male born on Monday is called Kwadwo/Kojo derived from the day Monday which is called Dwoada in the Akan language, the language of Akans. An Akan female born on Monday is called Adwoa. Here are the rest of the days and their various names: Tuesday/Benada - Kwabena for Akan males and Abena for Akan females, Wednesday/Wukuada - Kwaku for Akan males and Akua for Akan females, Thursday/Yawoada - Yaw for Akan males and Yaa for Akan females, Friday/Fiada - Kofi for Akan males and Afua for Akan females, Saturday/Memeneda - Kwame for Akan males and Ama for Akan females and finally Sunday/Kwasiada - Kwasi/Akwasi for Akan males and Akosua for Akan females. Sometimes an Akan baby male born on Wednesday might be called Kofi instead of Kwaku because the Akan person after whom he is named was a Kofi and not a Kwaku. Most likely produced by the council to promote the area during a time of economic and industrial uncertainty, S.E.18 Impressions of a London Suburb takes a rich and finely detailed look at the outer London postcode. The film takes place a year before Woolwich was absorbed into the borough of Greenwich. Narrated by Bruce White and backed by a soundtrack specially commissioned for the film, this highly polished production captures local life, amenities and people – what they did and thought of what was happening in the area at the time. Beginning with the Queen Mother attending and making a speech at the opening of a local housing estate, the film goes on to capture the key features that make up the borough’s identity. This includes Highbury Stadium, where a match featuring Arsenal taking on an unnamed side is used largely as a conceit to segue into a sequence about the Woolwich Arsenal (from where the club originates and takes it name) and it’s threatened closure. The factory would, in fact, go on to shut down production three years later, in 1967. Key sequences also feature the Woolwich Ferry, St Mary’s Church, Woolwich Polytechnic and Woolwich market, among various other points of interest. This film is from the Greenwich Heritage Centre. Hi to all 12 of my subscribers thank you for subscribing and I hope to make more interesting and entertaining videos as I become more and more confident at filming out and about and may be try to get a little bit more adventurous. I have quite a few videos that I have made dating back about 2 maybe 3 months so forgive me if you see a video in the next few weeks that seems out of chronological order I just haven't had the time to get round it them yet and also its taking a very long time to upload even a short video here on youtube for some reason a hell of a lot longer than it ever took before. This video is for instance 8.10 minutes long it is going to take 160 minutes to upload that can't be right can it? Can anyone tell me if that sounds right or not because I don't think it is?

Barnet Trades Council commissioned Tim Sanders (cartoonist) & Hettie Griffiths (Film Editor) to produce this animation to show how Austerity is having an impact on our community in the London Borough of Barnet. Contact details for Tim Sanders Tims@commonknowledge.org.uk What is Barnet Trades Union Council (Barnet TUC)? A group of people in the borough of Barnet who support trade unions and want to defend and improve public services. Part of the structure of the national Trades Union Congress (TUC), our constitution includes the aim: "To improve generally the economic and social conditions of working people, including seeking improvements to the social services, public education, housing and health." Our activities include sharing news and ideas about trade union issues and discussing wider questions such as social justice and opposition to racism and other forms of discrimination. How can I get involved? You can attend Barnet TUC meetings as a non-voting visitor if you live or work in Barnet and you agree with our aims. To become a voting member of Barnet TUC, you should ask your union branch to join us (affiliate). Your union branch can affiliate if you live or work in Barnet. It will cost your union branch 10p per member per year to affiliate, with a minimum payment of £10 per year. Your union branch needs to pass a motion agreeing to affiliate, and elect a delegate to Barnet TUC. They will probably expect their delegate to report back to them regularly on the activities of the trades council. If your union branch is large and you think that the joining fee will put your branch off joining, let us know - we can work something out! How is Barnet TUC run? Our monthly meetings take place on the second Tuesday of every month at the Greek-Cypriot Centre Britannia Road, N12 9RU starting at 7pm and last for an hour and a half. Before each meeting there is an executive meeting for half an hour. Statement on Austerity “But there is an alternative to this failed economic model. Firstly, we need to address the chronic imbalance between capital and labour. Living wage week, which starts on Monday, should provide a stark reminder that in low-pay Britain one in five workers earns less than the living wage. We need a concerted effort to raise workers’ wages, from encouraging employers to pay the living wage to introducing new wage councils. And of course we need more of the most effective way of all to boost pay – collective bargaining.” (Frances O Grady November 4th, 2013) http://www.economicvoice.com/households-are-being-excluded-from-benefits-of-growth-says-frances-ogrady/

A RAINFOREST IN EVERY HOME- SIGN UP NOW! For at least 10 years I have been stuck with the problems of flooding from upstairs. The problem is compounded by a poor leaseholder agreement written in to the sale of that property. This continues to happen and officials from Greenwich council find reasons they cannot intervene. They have just served demolition orders on this neighbourhood. We should have been moved off here years ago. And some of us may still be here for upto 7 years before the estate is finally cleared. Parents from two local primary schools were invited to learn to cycle. People who hadn't cycled before or were unsure of their ability completed the course with the ability to ride and the confidence to cycle on London streets. Their children could benefit too as there's now the opportunity for family cycle rides or shared cycling trips to school or the playing fields. - See more at: http://hyyperlic.com/2015/02/pancake-day-race-2015-im-borough-market-london#sthash.9ly723DZ.dpuf

noodls 2015-03-26The administrative area of Greater London contains thirty-two London boroughs. Inner London comprises twelve of these boroughs plus the City of London. Outer London comprises the twenty remaining boroughs of Greater London.
The London boroughs are administered by London Borough Councils which are elected every four years. The boroughs are the principal local authorities in London and are responsible for running most local services in their areas, such as schools, social services, waste collection and roads. Some London-wide services are run by the Greater London Authority, and some services and lobbying of government are pooled within London Councils. Some London borough councils also group together for such services as waste collection and disposal, e.g. the West London Waste Authority. The London boroughs are local government districts and have similar functions to metropolitan boroughs. Each London borough is a Local Education Authority. Until 1990 the Inner London boroughs were served by a shared LEA, the Inner London Education Authority.
London i/ˈlʌndən/ is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom, and the largest urban zone in the European Union by most measures. Located on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its square-mile mediaeval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms the London region and the Greater London administrative area, governed by the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transport all contributing to its prominence. It is the world's leading financial centre alongside New York City and has the fifth-largest city GDP in the world (and the largest in Europe). London has been described as a world cultural capital. It was the world's most visited city during 2011 and London Heathrow is the world's busiest airport by number of international passengers. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education in Europe. In 2012 London will become the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.
