HighBeam Research is an online, subscription-based search engine for newspapers, magazines, academic journals, newswires, trade magazines and encyclopedias. The site has access to over 80 million articles from 6,500 publications, most of which are not available free elsewhere on the internet. Thousands of new articles are added daily, archives date back over 25 years including trade journal, newspaper articles, and peer-reviewed journals covering a wide range of subjects and industries; and there are tools for finding, saving, organizing, and sharing information as documents. Aside from a free seven-day trial (credit card required), access to HighBeam costs $30 per month or $200 per year for the first year and $300 for subsequent years.

As of March 13, 2012 HighBeam has generously agreed to give free, full-access one-year accounts for Wikipedia editors to use, at the discretion of the community. HighBeam is excited about this and does not expect there to be a shortage of these free, one-year accounts; however, editors will have to have a one-year-old account and 1000 edits in order to qualify for one. At the end of one year, editors who found the resource useful can simply re-apply.

  1. Sky Harbor (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Requesting for renewal of my access. HighBeam has an extensive archive for the Manila Bulletin and the Manila Times, two major Philippine newspapers, and I'm beginning to migrate references using these two newspapers to HighBeam as the newspapers' websites are notoriously unreliable when it comes to maintaining older articles. It would be really great if I can get access again. :) --Sky Harbor (talk) 04:33, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

  4. Rhododendrites (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Looking to renew. I've used HighBeam quite a bit on a variety of articles. Particularly handy when looking for sources at AfD, but I've used it in history, cultural studies, and technology topics among others. Thanks. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 03:11, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

  5. meetthefeebles (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)Looking to renew. I've used High Beam in the past for geographical articles on Tyne & Wear and on Sports articles such as Gateshead International Stadium. I'm currently working on Jackie Milburn and HB access will hopefully give me access to much needed match reports and reliable statistical data for that era... 6. GaryColemanFan (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Looking to renew. I've used it for my research over the past year, and I'm currently working to reference 20+ old sports articles. Renewing this would be very helpful. GaryColemanFan (talk) 17:32, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

  7. Sionk (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I believe my Highbeam account may be coming to an end shortly (I was granted access for several accounts at this time last year). Highbeam has been useful on many occasions over the last 12 months and seems to have a far broader and more useful reach than Questia, for example. Even when news articles have been freely available online, the Highbeam search seems a far quicker way of pointing me in the right direction. I think I would benefit from continued Highbeam access. 8. Curlymanjaro (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Looking to use HighBeam to provide source material for several British schools, where otherwise it would be lacking. It would also be useful in regard to other articles local to myself, for which I struggle finding referable material. Curlymanjaro (talk) 19:17, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

  12. MSJapan (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) - I edit in many areas, and I do a lot of verification. Highbeam would be especially useful to me on a draft article on Henry Clay Barnabee (who appears notable so far), as well as research on Freemasonry to get scholarly sources, as well anything I can find on bands to verify in whatever area I happen to be working in at a given moment. 14. Mz7 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I've primarily been active in creating articles about books which were published in the very early days of the Internet (e.g. Wings for My Flight, Poppy (novel)). Because of this, online sources may not be readily available, and I think HighBeam would be an invaluable resource. Mz7 (talk) 03:55, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

  16. Pi.1415926535 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Requesting renewal of my access (it expired in January, but from then until this month I'd been able to get access through my previous university). I work on articles related to the MBTA and other transit articles in Greater Boston, particularly their histories. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 04:11, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

  17. Balko Kabo (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) - I hope to find extra source material in order to save articles from deletion. On nl-wiki a common reason for deletion is that the Encyclopediewaardigheid (Encyclopaedic Worthiness) of the subject cannot be established because the article does not contain reliable sources. Balko Kabo (talk) 17:57, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

  18. Epicgenius (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I'm primarily active in expanding US- and railroad-related articles on enwiki, especially on articles about New York. 21. Raintheone (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Account renewal. I would like my old account renewed because it previously helped me create a wide selection of articles I perhaps otherwise would not have been able to. It unlocks many early 2000s and 90s sources I cannot find elsewhere. Used to use it a lot on older entertainment topics.Rain the 1 23:30, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
  22. Nizil Shah (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I create new articles about Indian topics but there is lack of sources for it, especially in English and before 2000. I also edit and translate content to Gujarati Wikipedia sometimes. The access would help me add more quality sources.--Nizil (talk) 20:27, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
  23. Checkingfax (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)-- I frequently run in to the Highbeam paywall and would be nice to have free access to Highbeam so I can continue my volunteer editing on Wikipedia. Finding reliably sourced references for many topics is difficult. Thank you. Checkingfax (talk) 01:44, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
  24. Mr RD (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I am primarily active with WP:AFC and new page patrolling which requires searching for news citations about the articles to establish their notability. Mr RD (talk) 16:47, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
Note Mr RD is a paid editor - see their userpage. We would appear to need confirmation that they will not "Use the access provided through the Pilot for any commercial purpose". SmartSE (talk) 22:54, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
  1. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I primarilly create new articles and expand stubs on medieval history; Highbeam would allow access to (especially some of the more obscure) peer-reviewed journals which would mean a greater breadth of sourcing and detail. Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi 15:48, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
  2. Mabalu (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Please can my account be renewed? I mainly work on fashion related articles and Highbeam is extremely useful for finding pieces on British/European designers and brands that were active in the 1980s and 1990s, but are less known nowadays. I am currently working on Deborah Milner and can see a number of interesting articles in searches but am unable to read them due to an expired account. Mabalu (talk) 23:08, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
  3. Peripatetic (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I've created over a thousand articles in my 10+ years as an editor. Resources like HighBeam are extremely handy. Thanks! --Peripatetic (talk) 01:13, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
  4. Cerevisae (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have been using HighBeam for sometime now. I found that it is quite useful to repair link rots in Malaysian related articles. Therefore, I would like to renew my High Beam subscription. Thank you. Cerevisae (talk) 12:39, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
  5. Parkwells (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) An editor since 2008, I have 100,000+ edits, working on improving sources, cites and content of articles. Have concentrated on 19th-century US frontier and southern history, including fur trade and frontier, with histories of the many Native American families involved in these, but have also worked on 20th century history, and the Americas. Access would be useful.Parkwells (talk) 14:21, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
