The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, working in 177 countries and territories. In The Gambia, UNDP and the Government of The Gambia entered into a basic agreement to govern UNDP’s assistance to the country (Standard Basic Assistance Agreement – SBAA), which was signed by both parties on 24 February 1975.

The report, entitled "Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience" highlights the need for both promoting people’s choices and protecting human development achievements. It takes the view that vulnerability threatens human development and, unless it is systematically addressed, progress will be neither equitable nor sustainable.
