Safed is the highest city in the Galilee and of Israel.[2] Due to its high elevation, Safed experiences warm summers and cold, often snowy, winters.[3] Since the sixteenth century, Safed has been considered one of Judaism's Four Holy Cities, along with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberias;[4] since that time, the city has remained a center of Kabbalah, also known as Jewish mysticism.

The deer park in Sarnath is where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma. Isipatana is mentioned by the Buddha as one of the four places of pilgrimage which his devout followers should visit. Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta (The Setting in Motion of the Wheel of Dharma) which was his first teaching after attaining enlightenment, in which he taught the four noble truths and the teachings associated with it. This sutta also introduces the Buddhist concepts of the middle way, impermanence, and dependent origination.

The Old City (Hebrew: העיר העתיקה, Ha'Ir Ha'Atiqah, Arabic: البلدة القديمة, al-Balda al-Qadimah, Armenian: Երուսաղեմի հին քաղաք, Yerusaghemi hin k'aghak' ) is a 0.9 square kilometers (0.35 sq mi) walled area[2] within the modern city of Jerusalem. Until 1860, when the Jewish neighborhood Mishkenot Sha'ananim was established, this area constituted the entire city of Jerusalem. The Old City is home to several sites of key religious importance: the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims, the Temple Mount and Western Wall for Jews and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians, It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site List in 1981.
Traditionally, the Old City has been divided into four uneven quarters, although the current designations were introduced only in the 19th century.[3] Today, the Old City is roughly divided into the Muslim Quarter, the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter and the Armenian Quarter. The Old City's monumental defensive walls and city gates were built in the late 16th century by the Ottomans. The current population of the Old City resides mostly in the Islamic and Christian quarters. As of 2007 the total population was 36,965; the breakdown of religious groups in 2006 was 27,500 Muslims, 5,681 Christians, 790 Armenians and 3,089 Jews.[4]
Following the 1948 Israeli War of Independence, the Old City was captured by Jordan and Jewish residents were evicted. During the Six-Day War in 1967, which saw hand-to-hand fighting on the Temple Mount, Israeli forces captured the Old City along with the rest of East Jerusalem, subsequently annexing them as Israeli territory and reuniting them with the western part of the city. Today, the Israeli government controls the entire area, which it considers part of its national capital, although internationally it is recognized as part of occupied Palestinian Territory. The Jerusalem Law of 1980, effectively annexing East Jerusalem to Israel, was declared null and void by UN Security Council Resolution 478 and East Jerusalem is regarded by the international community as part of occupied Palestinian territory.[5][6]

Today we visited the ancient ruins of Bet She'an which dates back as far as the 16th century B.C. under Egyptian rule but reached its peak under Roman rule and during the Byzantine period reached a population of 40,000. Only about 1/10 of the ruins have been uncovered. From there we went to the wonderful city of Safed or Zefat one of the four holy cities in Israel and acts as the center of Kabbalah and Jewish Mysticism. At an elevation of 900 meters it is the highest city in Israel. All I can say about both sites is Wow! -

During the Six-Day War in 1967, which saw hand-to-hand fighting on the Temple Mount, Israeli forces captured the Old City along with the rest of East Jerusalem, subsequently annexing them as Israeli territory and reuniting them with the western part of the city. Today, the Israeli government controls the entire area, which it considers part of its national capital, although internationally it is recognized as part of occupied Palestinian Territory. The Jerusalem Law of 1980, effectively annexing East Jerusalem to Israel, was declared null and void by UN Security Council Resolution 478 and East Jerusalem is regarded by the international community as part of occupied Palestinian territory.[5][6]

Terry takes part in the evening prayer called "Aarti" at dusk offered to Goddess Ganga at Har-Ki-Pauri. A spectacle of sound and colour is seen when, after the ceremony, pilgrims float diyas (floral floats with lamps) and incense on the river, sending out their prayers.
Haridwar is an important pilgrimage city in India. The River Ganges, after flowing for 253 kilometres (157 mi) from its source at Gaumukh at the edge of the Gangotri Glacier, enters the Indo-Gangetic Plains of North India for the first time at Haridwar which gave the city its ancient name, Gangadwára.
Haridwar is regarded as one of the seven holiest places to Hindus. According to the Samudra manthan, Haridwar along with Ujjain, Nasik and Allahabad is one of four sites where drops of Amrit, the elixir of immortality, accidentally spilled over from the pitcher while being carried by the celestial bird Garuda. This is manifested in the Kumbha Mela being celebrated every 3 years in one of the 4 places, and thus every 12 years in Haridwar. Amidst the Kumbha Mela, millions of pilgrims, devotees, and tourists congregate in Haridwar to perform ritualistic bathing on the banks of the river Ganges to wash away their sins to attain Moksha. Brahma Kund, the spot where the Amrit fell, is located at Har ki Pauri (literally, "footsteps of the Lord") and is considered to be the most sacred ghat of Haridwar.

Today we visited the ancient ruins of Bet She'an which dates back as far as the 16th century B.C. under Egyptian rule but reached its peak under Roman rule and during the Byzantine period reached a population of 40,000. Only about 1/10 of the ruins have been uncovered. From there we went to the wonderful city of Safed or Zefat one of the four holy cities in Israel and acts as the center of Kabbalah and Jewish Mysticism. At an elevation of 900 meters it is the highest city in Israel. All I can say about both sites is Wow!

"Ujjayini", is an ancient city of Malwa in central India. Located some 56 km from Indore, this holiest of Hindu cities sits on the eastern bank of the sacred Kshipra river in Madhya Pradesh state in India.
Ujjayani , once capital of the Avanti kingdom is steeped in history, dating as far back as the time of the Buddha. During later times Ujjayani was home to some of the world's most renowned mathematicians, responsible for spreading the modern day number system, as we know it today. It is said that the first meridian of the earth passes through Ujjayani , making " Ujjayani " time" the universal time of the world. For centuries Ujjayani enjoyed much prosperity and was a vital part of the ancient trading route.
Yet quite remarkably, this ancient city retains the very essence of the Hindu faith.
Boasting a reputation of being one of, if not the, most holy ancient city on the Indian subcontinent, Ujjayani , a venerated pilgrimage for so many Hindu's, will inspire even the most seasoned traveler. Nearly all of the sacred Hindu festivals or rituals take place here so visitors are truly spoilt for choice.
The biggest and certainly the most remarkable ritual taking place in the city is a mass Hindu pilgrimage known as "Kumbha Mela" where millions of people make the pilgrimage to the river for a bathing ritual. The Kumbha Mela ritual takes place four times every twelve years, rotating between the four holy cities of Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjayani and Nashik. Every twelve years when the ritual returns to Prayag, it is known as "Maha Kumbha Mela" and is attended by an unimaginable 70 million people or more, the largest single gathering on the planet. Witnessing an event such as this is something which no words could ever explain.
While there are hundreds of awe inspiring temples scattered all over the city, the famous Mahakal temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is the most venerated of all the Shiva temples and no visit to Ujjayani is complete without paying respects at this holiest of temples.

With the rapid expansion of two cities and better road connectivity, the two cities are now almost conjoined and considered as twin cities. The city of Puri is about 60 kilometers from Bhubaneswar and lies on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. Puri is considered a holy city and the abode of the deity Lord Jagannath. It is one of the Char Dhams (Four holy places) of Hinduism. The world-famous "car festival" (rath yatra) is celebrated every year in the Hindu month of Ashadha (Mid June to Mid July) in Puri.
Flowing through the arteries of Orissa, is the living and continuing culture of India... its varied expressions and its rich variety. The very stones speak of the unique history of the nation. The temple-culture condenses the quintessence of India. Whether it is the sacred environs of Lord Jagannath temple, or the eroticism of Konark's Sun temple, the wondrous caves of Jainism or the mystical monasteries of Buddhism, the paintings of folklore or the weaver's magic... In the spring of 1994 another stage in the campaign to restore natural balance in the Hula Valley was completed: the re-flooding of 250 acres now known as Lake Agmon, located approximately two kilometers north of the Hula Nature Reserve. Visitors can visit the re-flooded area to appreciate nature's powers.
While at the Hula Valley Nature reserve don't forget to stop at Oforia, a fun multimedia display that tells the story of the migratory route across the region and the millions of birds that use it.
Continue to Tel Hazor. One of the principal cities on the Fertile Crescent, Hazor engaged in trade with cities in Babylon and Syria. The Bible refers to Hazor as "the head of all those kingdoms" (Joshua 11:10). As you explore the ruins, including the beautifully restored palace, the water system and other gems, you'll understand why Tel Hazor, too, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Proceed to Safed, one of the four holy cities in Israel and the home of Lurian mysticism, a branch of Jewish mysticism conceived by the 16th -century Rabbi Isaac Luria, the traditional author of the seminal mystic work, the Zohar. Stroll along the lanes of the Old City and see its many synagogues, as well as its unique artist's colony.

This beautiful city is not just the capital city of Albania for about last 100 years, it is also the largest city of the country. All important developments, like economic, political and cultural character are happening here. Tirana has also a very educational character, a lot of public and private schools, university and colleges are located in this area.
Almost third of the whole population in Albania lives in Tirana and surroundings. No matter what you visit or explore in Tirana the kindness and affability of the domestic people will meet you. What could you ask more in a foreign city or land?!
As a city with a far history there are a lot of spots which should be visited. Today those walls define the Old City, which has been traditionally divided into four quarters—known since the early 19th century as the Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Quarters. The Old City became a World Heritage site in 1981, and is on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Modern Jerusalem has grown far beyond the Old City's boundaries.
According to the Biblical tradition, King David established the city as the capital of the united Kingdom of Israel and his son, King Solomon, commissioned the building of the First Temple; there is no archaeological evidence that Solomon's Temple existed or any record of it, other than the Bible. These foundational events, straddling the dawn of the 1st millennium BCE, assumed central symbolic importance for the Jewish people. The sobriquet of holy city (עיר הקודש, transliterated 'ir haqodesh) was probably attached to Jerusalem in post-exilic times. The holiness of Jerusalem in Christianity, conserved in the Septuagint which Christians adopted as their own authority, was reinforced by the New Testament account of Jesus's crucifixion there. In Islam, Jerusalem is the third-holiest city, after Mecca and Medina. In Islamic tradition in 610 CE it became the first Qibla, the focal point for Muslim prayer (salat), and Muhammad made his Night Journey there ten years later, ascending to heaven where he speaks to God, according to the Quran. As a result, despite having an area of only 0.9 square kilometres (0.35 sq mi), the Old City is home to many sites of seminal religious importance, among them the Temple Mount and its Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque.

Lord Buddha, the enlightened one, was born here as Prince Siddhartha Gautam in 623 B.C., the son of King Suddhodhan of the kingdom of Kapilvastu and his queen Maya Devi. According to the Buddhist literary sources, on the day of Baisakh Purnima, Maya Devi, while on her way to her maternal home took bath in Puskarini (a pond in the garden of the palace) and immediately felt the onset of her labor pain. She grabbed the branch of a big shady tree nearby for support and gave birth to a beautiful baby prince. It is said that as soon as he was born, the new born prince took seven steps in the holy soil under each of which a lotus flower bloomed immediately. Lumbini garden, where Maya Devi gave birth to Gautam Buddha, remained neglected for a long time but now it has been beautifully maintained, and the region isnow listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Amritsar: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said the Centre was planning to spend Rs 50,000 crore on the farming and irrigation sector and plans were also afoot to roll out an insurance scheme exclusively for the farming sector to compensate for crop loss.
Admitting that the condition of farmers is a "matter of concern", Jaitley said, "In the coming time, we have plans to spend Rs 50,000 crore on farming and irrigation sectors in the country."
Addressing a public rally in chaste Punjabi on Amritsar, the Union minister said if the state governments come forward and utilise these funds, it will bring positive change in the field of agriculture sector.
"The condition of farmers is a matter of concern...We are working on the next challenge wherein if farmer's crop gets damaged, he will automatically get insurance amount for the crop loss while sitting at his home. We are bringing an insurance scheme only for the farming sector," Jaitley said.
Speaking in Mumbai on July 12, the Finance minister had said, "Hopefully, in the near future, a viable and vibrant insurance scheme will be in place for farmers."
The present crop insurance schemes cover only the loans which a farmer has taken from banks. Noting that the agriculture sector presents its own set of challenges with successive low rate of growth over the years, he had admitted, "We have been unable to ensure even a 4 per cent growth consistently in the field of agriculture."
"With productivity levels reasonably low and 85 per cent farmers being small and marginal, the agriculture sector is afflicted by higher input costs, low level of irrigation, high indebtedness, absence of an effective insurance mechanism and adverse impacts of climate change," Jaitely had told the 34th Foundation Day celebrations of Nabard in Amritsar.
Union Minister for Urban Development Naidu put icing on the cake: he said 16 cities of Punjab would get a makeover under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). These cities include: Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, Batala, Moga, Pathankot, SAS Nagar, Abohar, Malerkotla, Khanna, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Barnala.
This would improve drinking water, sanitation and solid-waste management in these towns. Naidu also gave something to Finance Minister Jaitley's Amritsar.
He said the holy city was selected for the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) with Rs 68.45 crore marked for preserving various sites.
Naidu, along with Jaitley, laid the foundation stone for four-lane National Highway-15 connecting Amritsar, Bathinda and Ganganagar at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore. The first phase of the project includes four-laning of Amritsar-Tarn Taran-Harike road and Faridkot-Kotkapura-Bathinda stretch. Jaitley said they had made budgetary allocation of Rs 50,000 crore for the national irrigation network from which Punjab would benefit immensely.
