For prisoners and families — as well as victims of crime — waiting on the courts is undoubtedly difficult, like an endless dance on the knife edge. But for those challenging wrongful convictions, there is a double standard that is especially impossible to ignore. While parties on either side of a conviction face myriad rules and strict filing deadlines as a case moves through the appeals process, virtually no such rules or deadlines apply to appellate courts.
