Banking on ID
Pledgebank is the latest project from My Society, the people who brought you FaxYourMP.com, WriteToThem.com, TheyWorkForYou.com and Not Apathetic. The idea behind Pledgebank is that a person pledges to do something if a given number of people also pledge to do that thing.
The idea appears to have been picked up by anti-ID card campaigners and with not inconsiderable success. Phil Booth, national co-ordinator of the NO2ID coalition pledged, "I will refuse to register for an ID card and will donate £10 to a legal defence fund but only if 10000 other people will also make this same pledge." The deadline to sign-up for this is not until 9 October, but there are already 10,921 pledgers.
It is still possible to sign up, but there is also now a pledge to support those refusing to register for ID cards. Franky Ma has pledged to donate at least £20 to a legal defence fund provided 50,000 others do so as well. This hardly seems like a great sacrifice and I've already put your name to it. You might want to think about doing the same.
