Deer (singular and plural) are the ruminant mammals forming the family Cervidae. Species in the Cervidae family include white-tailed deer, mule deer such as black-tailed deer, elk, moose, red deer, reindeer (caribou), fallow deer, roe deer and chital. Male deer of all species (except the Chinese water deer) and also female reindeer grow and shed new antlers each year. In this they differ from permanently horned animals such as antelope; these are in the same order as deer and may bear a superficial resemblance. The musk deer of Asia and water chevrotain (or mouse deer) of tropical African and Asian forests are not usually regarded as true deer and form their own families, Moschidae and Tragulidae, respectively.
The word "deer" was originally broad in meaning, but became more specific over time. In Middle English der (Old English dēor) meant a wild animal of any kind. This was as opposed to cattle, which then meant any sort of domestic livestock that was easy to collect and remove from the land, from the idea of personal-property ownership (rather than real estate property) and related to modern chattel (property) and capital. Cognates of Old English dēor in other dead Germanic languages have the general sense of "animal", such as Old High German tior, Old Norse djur or dȳr, Gothic dius, Old Saxon dier, and Old Frisian diar.

Plot
A series of typical Avery spot gags set around wild animals. A dainty deer drinks very loudly and rudely from a lake. A pack rat swaps an egg and an acorn, then back again ("monotonous, isn't it?"). A flock of ducks lands; a hunter fires; all fly away, except one with an American flag on its side. A termite fells a huge tree. A cowboy rides across the plains well, no; his horse is just slapping itself with the front hooves. A coyote calls to its mate: "Hey, Mabel, come on out!" A camel contradicts the narrator, saying he's really thirsty. A wild dog: because of the lumbermen.

Narrator: An interesting animal is the camel, often called the ship of the desert. He is noted for being able to go for weeks without water. Day after day, he plods over scorching desert sands in terrific heat, never once desiring a cool refreshing drink of water.::Camel: I don't care what you say. I'm thirsty. [continues walking]
Half a year and here you are again
I'd go out in public if nobody ever asked
I sit home and drink alone and hope that bottle speaks, like you, like us, like me
Half a year again, now it's a whole
February stationery from you on the wall
And I sit home and plead the throne to speak to speak to me to me to me Hasn't said a single thing
You're probably too busy with your work
Or am I just excusing you for leaving me alone
There' s nothing in these wooden drawers to bring you back or to keep me bored
I don't know what to do with me no more
Dear everyone I ever really knew
I acted like an asshole so I could keep my edge on you
Ended up abusing even those I thought immune
I killed the kingdom with one move and now it's time to move
Dear everybody that has paid to see my band,
It's still confusing, I'll never understand
I acted like an asshole so my albums would never burn
I'm hungry now, and the scraps are dirty dirt
Hunters seeking clues
Tracks are fresh
Swift to the kill
Deep into it
You'll lose all sense
He goes by touch
Deciphering
Broken codes in me
I don't know how to move
This state I'm in
Hold fast my beating heart
Here's a deer amongst the hunted
A gentle anarchist who knows no fear
See, I'm an elk and you're a deer
Hunter you've found the clue
Silver lines around his eyes
The sprawling fawn
Try not to speak
Caught by his eyes
It was blood on ice
I don't know how to move
This state I'm in
Hold fast my beating heart
Here's a deer amongst the hunted
A gentle anarchist who knows no fear
See, I'm an elk and you're a deer
Hold fast my beating heart
Here's a deer amongst the hunted
A gentle anarchist who knows no fear
See, I'm an elk and you're a deer
Warm is the mouth
That feeds
You love
And his heart
Beat so loud
It's all
