Most optical phenomena can be accounted for using the classical electromagnetic description of light. Complete electromagnetic descriptions of light are, however, often difficult to apply in practice. Practical optics is usually done using simplified models. The most common of these, geometric optics, treats light as a collection of rays that travel in straight lines and bend when they pass through or reflect from surfaces. Physical optics is a more comprehensive model of light, which includes wave effects such as diffraction and interference that cannot be accounted for in geometric optics. Historically, the ray-based model of light was developed first, followed by the wave model of light. Progress in electromagnetic theory in the 19th century led to the discovery that light waves were in fact electromagnetic radiation.

Nye began his professional entertainment career as a writer/actor on a local sketch comedy television show in Seattle, Washington, called Almost Live!. The host of the show, Ross Shafer, suggested he do some scientific demonstrations in a six-minute segment, and take on the nickname "The Science Guy".[14] His other main recurring role on Almost Live! was as Speedwalker, a speedwalking Seattle superhero.
From 1991 to 1993, he appeared in the live-action educational segments of Back to the Future: The Animated Series in the nonspeaking role of assistant to Dr. Emmett Brown (played by Christopher Lloyd), in which he would demonstrate science while Lloyd explained. The segments' national popularity led to Nye hosting an educational television program, Bill Nye the Science Guy, from 1993 to 1998. Each of the 100 episodes aimed to teach a specific topic in science to a preteen audience, yet it garnered a wide adult audience as well.[15] With its comedic overtones, the show became popular as a teaching aid in schools. When portraying "The Science Guy", Nye wears a light blue lab coat and bow tie.

An optical fiber (or optical fibre) is a flexible, transparent fiber made of extruded glass (silica) or plastic, slightly thicker than a human hair. It can function as a waveguide, or “light pipe”, to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber. The field of applied science and engineering concerned with the design and application of optical fibers is known as fiber optics.
Optical fibers are widely used in fiber-optic communications, where they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths (data rates) than wire cables. Fibers are used instead of metal wires because signals travel along them with less loss and are also immune to electromagnetic interference. Fibers are also used for illumination, and are wrapped in bundles so that they may be used to carry images, thus allowing viewing in confined spaces. Specially designed fibers are used for a variety of other applications, including sensors and fiber lasers.
Optical fibers typically include a transparent core surrounded by a transparent cladding material with a lower index of refraction. Light is kept in the core by total internal reflection. This causes the fiber to act as a waveguide. Fibers that support many propagation paths or transverse modes are called multi-mode fibers (MMF), while those that only support a single mode are called single-mode fibers (SMF). Multi-mode fibers generally have a wider core diameter, and are used for short-distance communication links and for applications where high power must be transmitted. Single-mode fibers are used for most communication links longer than 1,000 meters (3,300 ft).
Joining lengths of optical fiber is more complex than joining electrical wire or cable. The ends of the fibers must be carefully cleaved, and then carefully spliced together with the cores perfectly aligned. A mechanical splice holds the ends of the fibers together mechanically, while fusion splicing uses heat to fuse the ends of the fibers together. Special optical fiber connectors for temporary or semi-permanent connections are also available.

Total internal reflection is the man principle of the optical fiber communication, that depends on the concept of critical angle. In the above video TIR (Total Internal reflections) is possible only when the ray enter between the range of incident angle 0 to Acceptance Angle. Otherwise it is possible that it penetrate the classing region.

The journey of Optics Cycling for Sight has gone from strength to strength every year.
Optics Cycling for Sight was founded in 2011 by Bradford University student optometrists Jessica MacIssac, Fares Hatoum and Abubakr Patel to raise money for Optometry Giving Sight.
In 2011 the cyclists travelled from Glasgow Caledonian University to Cardiff University, stopping at each mainland UK optometry department on the way. This first cycle raised £2875!
In 2012 the route extended to almost 1000 miles by starting at the new optometry department in Plymouth university and finishing at Glasgow Caledonian University. Cyclists Fares Hatoum and Maadhav Kothari again visited each optometry department and were joined by 18 other cyclists for different legs. They raised £3300.
2013 the entire optical profession was invited to take part in the challenge and help collectively cycle 25,000 miles, the equivalent of the circumference of the world and organise their own events up and down the UK . The goal was to try and raise £1.00 for each mile cycled. They raised £12,500!
2014 the UK profession cycled over 8,000 miles and Eyecare by Perceptive also organised a CET credited Optics Tour of Yorkshire – the Yorkshire route mirrored the opening stages of the Tour de France with the ride divided into 3 stages: with 200km, 100km and 50km routes were available. Over £12,000 was raised across all collective events, and generously matched by Essilor UK Limited generating over £24,000!
2015 See details under Event 2015 and learn how you can be part of this.
Now several years on, it’s captured the hearts and imagine of the entire eye care profession and those that care about vision. Thousands of miles have been cycled, along with thousands of pounds being raised to help fund sustainable eye care projects.
Watch this short video to see why you should take part:

All funds raised will go to Optometry Giving Sight.

Optometry Giving Sight is the only global fundraising initiative that specifically targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision due to uncorrected refractive error – simply the need for an eye exam and a pair of glasses. More than 600 million people around the world are blind or vision impaired because they do not have access to the eye examination and glasses they need. Your donations allow Optometry Giving Sight to fund the solution by supporting programs that: Train local eye care professionals and establish vision centres for sustainability to deliver eye care and low cost glasses.

The FBI is investigating string of attacks against the Internet backbone in California, including one early Tuesday morning.
The high-capacity lines, which aren't much thicker than a pencil, carry vast amounts of data. Everything from phone calls to computer transactions, emails, and even the security cameras feeds watching the cables themselves travel down the plastic or glass fibers as pulses of light. The cables are the interstate highways of the information superhighway.
The FBI says whoever has been attacking the cables usually opens a underground vault, climbs inside and then cuts through the cables' protective metal conduit before severing the lines themselves.

No it's not a full legal division yet. USPSA is just thinking about it now and urging folks to beta test this concept. It's a proposal for a division that makes use of a red dot optic on carry/range guns which is becoming a pretty popular thing recently.
Larry is in a way very passionate about USPSA adopting this concept and discusses the advantages it could bring for the sport of practical pistol shooting. If you have any comments and feedback, discuss this with us on the comments section or on Facebook.

In this video we give you guys an in depth overview of the Armasight Zeus Thermal Optic lineup. These optics are simply amazing, and with that commands a premium over other standard optical devices.
A quick note guys, some of the footage may appear to be lacking in contrast but when you are out in the 100° F Georgia heat filming this video it doesn't help matters. With a cooler background, such as in a nighttime scenario, the contrast between subject and background would be far greater and easier to distinguish.
We hope you enjoy this fun look at Thermal technology, and be on the lookout for more footage filmed using these optics in other videos as well as overviews of other thermal units and night vision devices in the future.

The fiber optics is the communication technology, it was initiated in 1976 in UK and USA. All the telephone copper wire has been replaced by the optical fiber. In copper wires the signal were travelling in the form of electric current while in optical fibers the information carries from one place to the other in the form of light i.e. electromagnetic waves.
The optical fibers have many advantages over the copper wires. These are given below;
1. Long distance signal transmission: low attenuation and super signal integrity.
2. Large bandwidth, light weight and small diameter
3. Easy installation and upgrades
4.Security
These are of three types of fiber optic cables commonly used, namely single mode, multimode optical fiber.

The USMC issued Unertl MST-100 scope, the US Optics ST-10 and SN-3, and the new Vortex Razor HD scopes are compared in this review. Rex examines their long range suitability for the LONG RANGE 101 series.
1. Unertl MST-100 is a great scope for the .308 Win and was designed for the USMC M40 sniper rifle. Rex reviews the interesting features on this optic and categorizes its long range suitability.
2. US Optics ST-10 is the most rugged scope you can get and has some of the best glass in the world. If you want an extremely tough battle optic that will put up with whatever you throw at it... this may be it. Price is way too low even at $1600 considering it beats most scopes that cost $1000 more. The SN-3 is the toughest variable scope you can get and has top notch glass as well. If you really want a variable power scope and want ruggedness at the same time, look at this scope.
3. Vortex Razor HD has some great feature design and looks like it should be a great choice, however, conflicting reports as to construction quality loom in the air. Rex cannot endorse or reject the Vortex Razor HD at this time...

As the body count from the horrific Hajj stampede reached 719, the backlash started. Within hours, Saudi Arabia's regional rival Iran had laid the blame for the deaths squarely on the heads of the House of Saud.
