Snohomish High School Classes of ‘49 and ‘50 meet with boundless memories
 SNOHOMISH — The Snohomish High School classes of 1949 and 1950 met for a reunion recently and their life stories were varied and bright.
Approximately 40 class-mates and their spouses came from as far away as Arizona as well as the wide span of the Puget Sound area.

Windstorm takes out power across Puget Sound

A rare late summer storm created strong winds that toppled trees and brought down power lines throughout the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, Aug. 29. Damage was extensive from Portland to Vancouver B.C.
in Snohomish County most of the county was without power at times throughout the weekend, with the majority of Snohomish included in being without power. The most extensive damage occurred in the south county areas including the south end of Everett. The Lynnwood Park and Ride, for example, had trees toppled over cars in the parking lot.
Above in Snohomish, a tree lies across the northbound lanes of Avenue D just north of 10th Street while a power line blocks the southbound lanes. As of Sunday evening, Aug. 31 the Snohomish County P.U.D. was reporting about 55,000 customers were still without power as power crews from eastern Washington were in route to assist.

Tribune wins journalism award
Tribune reporter Melanie Russell took honors in the five-state Society of Professional Journalists Northwest Excellence in Journalism Awards earlier this month.
Russell’s Aug. 27, 2014 profile of a woman whose daughter’s heroin addiction deeply impacted her family, which showed how there are secondary victims of drug abuse, won third place for crime and justice reporting in the weeklies category for 2014.
The story’s title was “Heroin: Use Impacts More Than Just The User.”
The annual Society of Professional Journalists awards honor the best print, broadcast and online news reports in a region spanning from Alaska to Montana.
This is the second year in a row the Tribune has won in the contest.
