The Jedi are major characters in the Star Wars universe. The Jedi use a power called the Force and weapons called lightsabers, which emit a controlled energy flow in the shape of a sword, in order to serve and protect the Galactic Republic and the galaxy at large from conflict or governmental instability. Sometimes, the Jedi mediate peace negotiations among planets and other factions and, if necessary, use their formidable fighting skills to quickly end unrest or neutralize dangerous individuals. The Jedi are governed by a Council, consisting of twelve of the most powerful and wise members of the Jedi Order. They are bound to a code of morality and justice. The Jedi are trained to use the Force through rejection of passions and commitment to justice, as opposed to the ideals of the aggressive, highly passionate school known as the Dark side, favoring instead what is known in contrast as "the Light side."
The Jedi are first introduced in the 1977 motion picture Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope as an order of warrior monks who serve as "the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy" and embrace the mystical Force. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) explains that the Galactic Empire had all but exterminated the Jedi some twenty years before the events of the film, and seeks to train Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to be the Order's last hope. Darth Vader (David Prowse/James Earl Jones) is also established as the Jedi's main enemy. By the end of the film, Luke is on the path to becoming a Jedi. In the sequel, The Empire Strikes Back, Luke receives extensive Jedi training from the elderly (and only surviving) Jedi Master Yoda (Frank Oz), even as he learns that Vader is in fact his father, former Jedi Anakin Skywalker. The third film in the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi, ends with Luke redeeming Vader and helping to destroy the Empire, thus fulfilling his destiny as a Jedi.

Plot

Okay, so I don't think Jedi has as many added scenes, shots and adjustments as A New Hope, but I think it certainly has the most controversial changes. What's more is how RotJ seems to get a major revision with each release. At least with Episode IV and V, they remained relatively the same since the 2004 DVD.
I have no strong opinion on the changes, really. Being someone who grew up watching the 1997 VHS (which I still own), I like some elements from the original and some of the enhancements later added.

All Changes Made to Return of the Jedi (Comparison Video)
A comparison video comparing all changes added into Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in the 1997 Special Edition and subsequent releases. This video is purely objective and I've refrained from making any kind of strong opinion on anything, its here to show off all the changes as far as I know of while presented in an organized, relatively chronological order of the film. Okay, so I don't think Jedi has as many added scenes, shots and adjustments as A New Hope, but I think it certainly has the most controversial changes. What's more is how RotJ seems to get a major revision with each release. At least with Episode IV and V, they remained relatively the same since the 2004 DVD. I have no strong opinion on the changes, really. Being someone who grew up watching the 1997 VHS (which I still own), I like some elements from the original and some of the enhancements later added. (AP) -- A TV reporter and cameraman were shot to death during a live television interview Wednesday by a gunman who recorded himself carrying out the killings and posted the video on social media after fleeing the scene. Relatives of a pregnant Honduran teenager, who had been buried after being pronounced dead at a hospital, broke down her tomb and pulled out her coffin after apparently hearing banging from the inside. Nelsy Perez, 16, was then rushed to a clinic, still lying in her coffin and dressed in the wedding gown she was going to wear when she married the father of her unborn child, but doctors there found no signs of life....

One thing Star Wars, as a franchise, has always been great at is marketing. We can all wax nostalgic about the awesome Star Wars toys we all had (that some of us still have), and with new movies on the way, you can bet your ass a tidal wave of new toys waits for us ... With the prequels, we saw that fervor and enthusiasm for Star Wars toys has not dampened one bit since the original trilogy wrapped up with Return of the Jedi in 1983 ... ....
