Academic support
Get help with assessments, writing, English, and learn how to manage your time.
The Department of Academic Support & Development at Victoria University (VU) provides a range of face-to-face and online language and learning support for all students.
We can help you with your university assessment tasks, writing skills, and English language support, as well as show you effective ways to study and manage your time.
As well as the writing support offered by the Department of Academic Support & Development, postgraduate research students can access a range of support services through the Graduate Research Centre and the Library research support.

Complaint resolution
Victoria University has a Student Complaint Resolution policy to guide you through the steps you can take to resolve problems.

Counselling
Counselling services provides professional services designed to assist you as a student in your personal, psychological and social development.
Our staff support student academic success and provide counselling wellbeing resources.
Disability support
If you have a disability or medical condition that may impact upon your studies, Disability Services can support and assist you with our range of support and resources.
Disability support services at VU include academic and in-class support, facilitating alternative arrangements, library support, and access to specialist equipment and software.
There are also a range of off-campus external support services that may assist you with your studies and participation in university life.
Health & wellbeing advice
We can help you with different aspects of your physical, emotional and psychological well-being. We can provide confidential support to help you develop practical skills to better manage your time, money and personal issues. Our health adviser at VU can provide advice, information and referrals.
Information technology support
As a student, you have access to a rich collection of online resources, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which includes:
- databases or material housed within the Library
- student email
- e-learning content for courses you are enrolled in
- student software packages innovative social networking tools.
If you need specific help not available online you can contact the ITS service desk during opening hours.
Student advocacy - know your rights
Our Student Advocacy service provides confidential advice, support and representation to help you progress successfully during your time at university. We will help you prepare and present your own views with regards to:
- contacting your lecturer or teacher in your College to discuss your progress in your course
- preparing for an academic progress meeting, hearing or appeal
- attending a discipline hearing when you have been accused of cheating in an exam or plagiarism
- guiding you through the student complaint resolution process.

Other student support & services available
Specialty staff in other departments are available to provide advice on a range of other issues including:
- career preparation support and jobs board
- chaplains - irrespective of your faith background we can support pastoral / personal or spiritual concerns
- finance
- housing - finding accommodation
- indigenous student support through the Moondani Balluk Academic Unit
- International student support
