Las Vegas (/lɑːs ˈveɪɡəs/) is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Nevada and the county seat of Clark County. Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city for gambling, shopping, and fine dining. The city bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its consolidated casino–hotels and associated entertainment. A growing retirement and family city, Las Vegas is the 28th-most populous city in the United States, with a population at the 2010 census of 583,756. The 2010 population of the Las Vegas metropolitan area was 1,951,269.
Established in 1905, Las Vegas was incorporated as a city in 1911. At the close of the 20th century, Las Vegas was the most populous American city founded in that century (a distinction held by Chicago in the 19th century). The city's tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City, and this image has made Las Vegas a popular setting for films and television programs. There are numerous outdoor lighting displays on Fremont Street, as well as elsewhere in the city.
The Las Vegas Valley is a metropolitan area in the southern part of the US state of Nevada, and is the heart of the Las Vegas–Paradise, NV MSA also known as the Las Vegas–Paradise–Henderson MSA which includes all of Clark County, Nevada. The Valley is defined by the Las Vegas Valley landform, a 600 sq mi (1,600 km2) basin area that contains the largest concentration of people in the state. The history of the Valley significantly intertwines with the history of the city of Las Vegas and one of the two primary cities (as used by the census bureau) in the MSA, with the other being Paradise. The valley is home to the three largest incorporated cities in Nevada: Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas.
The names Las Vegas and Vegas are used to indicate the valley, the strip, the city and are used as a brand by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and used to denominate the entire region. The metropolitan area's population was at 741,459 in 1990. The population was approximately 2 million in 2010 (estimated). The valley is an area generally defined by the Spring Mountains on the west, Sheep Mountains to the north, Muddy Mountains and Lake Mead to the east, and the Black Mountains to the south.[citation needed]
Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the Arizona-Utah state line (around 36°59′N 110°6′W / 36.983°N 110.1°W / 36.983; -110.1), near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163.
The area is part of the Colorado Plateau. The floor is largely siltstone of the Cutler Formation, or sand derived from it, deposited by the meandering rivers that carved the valley. The valley's vivid red color comes from iron oxide exposed in the weathered siltstone. The darker, blue-gray rocks in the valley get their color from manganese oxide.
The buttes are clearly stratified, with three principal layers. The lowest layer is Organ Rock shale, the middle de Chelly sandstone and the top layer is Moenkopi shale capped by Shinarump siltstone. The valley includes large stone structures including the famed Eye of the Sun.
There's everyone in Las Vegas
Having some fun in Las Vegas
Everything's bright
Stay out all night
Get in the fight in Las Vegas
Playing the cards in Las Vegas
Gambling hard in Las Vegas
People in debt
Losing their bet
On the Roulette in Las Vegas
Cabaret shows
Everyone goes
Just to be seen
You know what I mean
In Las Vegas
They'll start the roll in Las Vegas
Plenty of soul in Las Vegas
People dig bands
Clapping their hands
Down at the sands in Las Vegas
Sammy and Dean in Las Vegas
They're proud to be seen in Las Vegas
Even Noel Coward
Walks in the crowd
Singing out loud in Las Vegas
Everyone's there
Nobody cares
Well, you got a good plan
That's where it began
In Las Vegas
You can stay cool in Las Vegas
Down by the pool in Las Vegas
Shooting the dice
Bourbon on ice
All very nice in Las Vegas
New second wife in Las Vegas
Marry for life in Las Vegas
Then, leave her, of course,
Without remorse
Get a divorce in Las Vegas
The money you earn's
Ready to burn
Everyone knows
That's how it goes
In Las Vegas
Where's everyone in Las Vegas?
Having some fun in Las Vegas
Everything's bright
Stay out all night
You'll feel right in Las Vegas
Get all the minks in Las Vegas
Have a few drinks in Las Vegas
Take in a show
Spend all your dough
Watch it all go in Las Vegas
At night, you can play
Then sleep through the day
And 'round about ten,
You're living again
In Las Vegas
In Las Vegas (in Las Vegas)
In Las Vegas (in Las Vegas)
(repeat and fade out)
Count up my money
It's in the pocket of my coat
We passed a motel a mile or so back
We've both been yelling
We're tired and we're angry
Now it's started raining on us both
[Chorus]
I heard you say you're homesick for Nashville
I heard you say you miss your folks in Escanaba
I want to hear your ideas on direction
Call up your father
If you think you want to go home
I'll take you there if you say so
But I can remember
When we bought this automobile
From a used up junky
In the southern hills
[Chorus]
I want to know what I did so wrong in Vegas
I obeyed every word you said
My ears must have been so tightly covered
To miss every grateful word you said
To miss every grateful word you said
To miss every grateful word you said
Two nights short of a good night's sleep
So twenty miles later we're searching
For anything when you pull me over
To the side of the road
You sit there, you shut up
I look for my magazine
You begin reading while I'm scared to speak
Unable to bed I go to the street
Well this storm's hurt my feelings
And I'm made to feel stupid
And I come back coughing
Lord and I come back
Doch zum Glück gibt es Las Vegas
wo die Sonne immer scheint
kühle Drinks & heiße Ladies
und der Roulettetisch ist dein Freund
yes zum Glück gibt es Las Vegas
die Stadt mit Shows & Flair
hey Buddy lass die Würfel rollen
es ist schon so verdammt lang her
oh Las Vegas, Las Vegas
du Sündenpfuhl
oh Las Vegas, Las Vegas
du bist so cool
der Teufel hat die Stadt gesegnet
wünscht beim Black Jack mir Toi Toi Toi
ja dort bist du mir begegnet
und mit dir Siegfried & Roy
oh Las Vegas...
"Las Vegas" (in English and French)
I've got a room here at the Mandalay bay
J'ai une chambre ici a la baie de Mandalay
I'll take a shower then I'm on my way
Je prends une douche et puis je m'en vais
I'll bring a friend if someone picks a fight
J'emmene un copain si quelqu'un fait des histoires
Here in Las Vegas tonight
Ici a Las Vegas ce soir
It's close to midnight when I hit the strip
C'est presque minuit quand j'arrive
The “maiden voyage” on my Vegas trip
Le premier voyage de mon tour a Vegas
The night is young and everything's alright
La nuit commence et tout va bien
Here in Las Vegas tonight
Ici a Las Vegas ce soir
Prechorus Dancing girls and cabarets
Pre-refrain Les filles dancent, les cabarets
You can spend your money in a million ways
Vous pouvez depenser votre argent de cent mille facons
Let's have a ball
Prenons une bille
The winner takes it all
Le gagnant recoit tout
In Las Vegas
A Las Vegas
In the neon lights
Dans la lumiere des neons
You'll be a star if you do it right
Vous deviendrez une star si vous vous en sortez
In Las Vegas
A Las Vegas
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
You better hold on tight
Il faut vous accrocher
In Las Vegas
A Las Vegas
Can't believe your eyes
Vous n'en croirez pas vos yeux
Your luck can turn in a throw of the dice
Votre chance peut tourner en un jet de des
In Las Vegas
A Las Vegas
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
You better hold on tight
Il faut vous accrocher
I'm leaving with a million dollar smile
Je pars avec un sourire d'un million dollar
The hotel manager can check my file
Le directeur de l'hotel peut ranger ma fiche
Fred the Limo-driver's asking polite
Fred, le chauffeur de la limousine demande poliment
- Leaving Las Vegas tonight?
- Vous partez de Las Vegas ce soir?
Dancing girls and cabarets
Les filles dancent, les cabarets
You can spend your money in a million ways
Vous pouvez depenser votre argent de cent mille facons
Let's have a ball
Prenons une bille
The winner takes it all
