Breakfast Seminar: Climate Risk and Decarbonization in Canadian Context @ Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Manitoba Room, Main Mezzanine (MM) Level
Sep 18 @ 8:30 am – 10:00 am

Join us for an eco-friendy breakfast and new insights on climate risk and decarbonization. Amundi Asset Management, co-founder of the UN-supported Portfolio Decarbonization Coalition (PDC), will share insights from their work on decarbonization and managing climate risk without sacrificing returns. Amundi manages close to USD $3 billion in decarbonized equity portfolios.

In this discussion, Frédéric Hoogveld, Investment Specialist, will focus specifically on the Canadian context. Frédéric will present findings from backtests on 3 different carbon strategies against the S&P/TSX Composite Index, explaining how these carbon strategies impact returns, volatility, carbon emissions intensity, and carbon reserves intensity (i.e. “stranded assets” exposure).

About the Speaker

Frédéric Hoogveld has been an Investment Specialist with Amundi since 2011. Before joining Amundi he worked with Factset Research systems. Frédéric Hoogveld is a graduate of Ecole Centrale Nantes (Masters, Engineering), of Panthéon La Sorbonne University (Masters, Corporate Finance) and holds an MBA from INSEAD. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst charterholder.

Climate, COP21, and Paris: Behind Closed Doors @ SFU Harbour Centre, Room 7000
Sep 24 @ 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

One of the largest and most important international climate conferences is about to take place.

On November 30, governments from around the world will gather at COP21 in Paris to (hopefully) finalize and agree to a deal that keeps the global temperature increase to below 2°C. The outcome in Paris could signal the future direction and ambition of global climate action. Many greet this optimism with cautionary notes, reminiscent of countries’ previous failures to secure a global deal, and muted expectations heading into COP21. There are already some hints of what we can expect in Paris, including the US, China, and other countries recent pledges to reduce emissions.

But what actually happens behind closed doors? What can COP21 achieve and what does that mean for the future governance of our climate?

Join us for a free public dialogue with a seasoned veteran of global climate negotiations. Jen Allan will shed light on how COP21 is organized and how the various negotiators interact. She’ll also give an insiders perspective on some of the stories we’re expecting to emerge as well as key countries and actors to watch.
