They include the tropical semi-evergreen forests and Tropical evergreen Forests. The trees do not have any particular season to cast off their leaves. The forests are also known the archetypal rain forests. The important varieties of trees are Rosewood, Mahagony, Bamboos, and sandalwood. Tropical rain forests are found on the slopes of the Western Ghats and North eastern regions of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, Tarai Areas of Himalayas and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. TROPICAL DECIDUOUS FORESTS They are called deciduous as the trees cast leaves for about 6 to 8 weeks in summer. They grow in regions having 75 cm to 200 cm of annual rainfall and thus are often referred as monsoon forests. The important trees found in these forests include TEAK, SAL and SANDALWOOD. Most of the tropical deciduous forests are found in the State of Kerela. They are also found on the eastern slopes of western Ghats and also in the North eastern parts of the Peninsular plateau and in the valleys of the Himalayas. DESERT VEGETATION This type of Vegetation grows in areas where rainfall is less than 10 cms. Desert Vegetation consists of thorny trees and bushes. The plants that grow in this region have long roots and thick fleshy stems. These types of Vegetation are found in Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat, Punjab and Karnataka. Babool, Cacti and Keekar are the main trees found here. MOUNTAIN VEGETATION These forests are mainly located at a high Altitude in the Mountains. The Himalayas are the main place where these mountain forests can be found in India. Sal, Teak, Bamboo and cane grow abundantly here. The conifer trees like Pine, Oak, Maple etc grow in plenty on the higher slopes. The Alpine Grasslands appear up to the snow field. Beyond these vegetation belts the areas are permanently under the snow cover. MANGROVE FORESTS Also known as the Tidal Forests, they can be found along the Coasts and Rivers and are covered by Mangrove Trees that can live both in Fresh and Salt water. These trees supply Timber and Firewood. Theses forests grow on the edges of the Deltas. For Example: The Ganga, Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna and Kaveri Deltas.
