Flamenco (Spanish pronunciation: [flaˈmeŋko]) is a genre of music, song and dance from Andalusia in southern Spain, noted for its energetic, staccato style. It grew from Andalusian and Romani music and dance styles.
The cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance) and palmas (handclaps) are the principal facets of flamenco.
In recent years flamenco has become popular all over the world and is taught in many countries; in Japan flamenco is so popular that there are more academies than in Spain. On November 16, 2010, UNESCO declared Flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
There are questions not only about the origins of flamenco, but also about the origins of the word itself. There are many theories (summarized below), but no solid evidence for any of them. The word was not recorded until the late 18th century. The Spanish word Flamenco literally means flamingo. The dance does resemble the form of the elegant bird which is not only native to Southern Spain but can be found all along the migratory routes of the Romani people across moorish North Africa even to their origin in India. Since the dance style of Flamenco may well have originated in (or been strongly influenced by) the expressive Kathak dance of north-western India the term flamenco may have originally been a Spanish colloquialism to label the dance.
Ottmar Liebert (born February 1, 1959) is a German-born guitarist and composer best known for his distinct New Flamenco sound. A five-time Grammy Award nominee, Liebert has received 38 Gold and Platinum certifications in the United States, as well as certifications in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. His debut album Nouveau Flamenco (1990) sold double-platinum in the United States and has become one of the best-selling guitar albums of all time.
Ottmar Liebert was born February 1, 1959 in Cologne, Germany to a Chinese-German father and a Hungarian mother. As a child, he spent most of his time traveling throughout Europe and Asia with his family. He began playing guitar at 11. After performing rock music in his native Germany, he moved to the United States and settled in Boston for a few years, performing in various rock clubs. In 1986 Liebert settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he began looking to create a new musical sound.
In 1989 Liebert founded the first incarnation of his band Luna Negra (black moon). That year he recorded a self-produced album titled Marita: Shadows and Storms. The initial thousand copies were were sold in the gallery of Santa Fe artist Frank Howell. When the record found its way to radio stations and began generating a response among listeners, Higher Octave Music picked it up and released a remastered version titled Nouveau Flamenco (1990). The album eventually sold double-platinum in the United States and has become one of the best-selling guitar albums of all time.

Does it diminish your
Super-capacity to love?
Does it diminish your
Super-capacity to love?
Walk like a matador
Don't be chicken-shit
And turn breezes into rivulets
Flamenco-sweep the air
And weave the sun
Stamp your feet for everyone
Does it exhibit your
Natural tendency to hate?
Does it exhibit your
Natural tendency to hate?
Maybe a prostitute
Could teach you
How to take a compliment
Maybe I'll go to New York
I'll drag you there
You said, "No one drags me anywhere"
Does it diminish your
Super-capacity to love?
Does it diminish your
Super-capacity to love?
To love
To love
does it dimish your super-capacity to love
walk like a matador, don't be chicken shit and turn breezes into rivulets
flamenco-sweep the air and weave the sun and stamp your feet for everyone
does it exhibit your natural tendency to hate
maybe a prostitute could teach you how to take a compliment
