Jamaica (
i/dʒəˈmeɪkə/), officially the Commonwealth of Jamaica, is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, 234 kilometres (145 mi) in length, up to 80 kilometres (50 mi) in width, and 10,990 square kilometres (4,240 sq mi) in area. It is situated in the Caribbean Sea, about 145 kilometres (90 mi) south of Cuba, and 191 kilometres (119 mi) west of Hispaniola, the island harbouring the nation-states of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The indigenous Arawakan-speaking Taíno name for the island was Xaymaca, meaning the "Land of Wood and Water" or the "Land of Springs".
Once a Spanish possession known as Santiago, it became an English colony in 1655 under the name "Jamaica". It achieved full independence from Britain on August 6, 1962. With 2.8 million people, it is the third most populous anglophone country in the Americas, after the United States and Canada. It remains a Commonwealth realm in concert with the Monarchy of Jamaica holding ultimate executive power, where Queen Elizabeth II is the current head of state and Queen of Jamaica.Kingston is the country's largest city and the capital.

This video shows BW flight 011 with non-stop service from Montego Bay to New York JFK Airport on December 14, 2011. Route took us over Freeport, Bahamas, Willmington, Delaware and Atlantic City,NJ. Meal included a Chicken or Turkey Sandwich with 2 snacks IIRC. Movie was Larry Crowne. Flown by Aircraft reg: 9Y-JME and I was seated at seat 14F. Really nice to know that they had RECARO seats. Departed MBJ at Gate 5 and arrived at Gate A7B in JFK I think. We parked beside a company B737 from POS reg. 9Y-SXM and 2 LAN B767-300ER W/L aircraft at Gates 3 and 5. In this video there is also Spirit Airlines A320 on its way to FLL and a Air Jamaica Boeing 737-800 9Y-JMB going to PHL from Gate 4. If you ever travel Caribbean Airlines or Air Jamaica it's best you do Web-Check to save you a whole lot of... -

Air Jamaica/Caribbean Airlines Flight 10 to Montego Bay B737-800 [HD]
This video show Air Jamaica/Caribbean Airlines Fight 10 Non-Stop Flight to Montego Bay on December 29, 2011. I was very tired when I recorded this flight so I have less footage than normal. Aircraft Reg. is 9Y-JMB. Beside our Aircraft at Gate A5, was a TAM Airbus A330-200 preparing for departure to GRU as JJ 8083. Also there was a company B738 preparing to go to Port of Spain (The Transavia Livery B737) as BW 521. Departed from Gate A7B. Taxied to Runway 31L (thanks oogmastaa4 for the correction) for takeoff and had to wait for a Jetblue A320 to BQN (B6 725). Also we had to wait on a Delta B757-200 to land from Los Angeles (DL 1162). I slept for the initial hour of the flight and woke up for breakfast. I took the Turkey Baguette, Chocolate Cookies and Kettle Cooked Potato Chips (All were ...

Meal included a Chicken or Turkey Sandwich with 2 snacks IIRC. Movie was Larry Crowne. Flown by Aircraft reg: 9Y-JME and I was seated at seat 14F. Really nice to know that they had RECARO seats. Departed MBJ at Gate 5 and arrived at Gate A7B in JFK I think. We parked beside a company B737 from POS reg. 9Y-SXM and 2 LAN B767-300ER W/L aircraft at Gates 3 and 5. In this video there is also Spirit Airlines A320 on its way to FLL and a Air Jamaica Boeing 737-800 9Y-JMB going to PHL from Gate 4. If you ever travel Caribbean Airlines or Air Jamaica it's best you do Web-Check to save you a whole lot of time at the counter. Remember to Subscribe! Thumbs Up and Leave a comment! Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park is a national park in Jamaica. The park covers 495.2 km2 and accounts for 4.5% of Jamaica's land surface. The park is globally known for its biodiversity. This park is the last of two known habitats of the Giant Swallowtail Butterfly (Papilio homerus), the largest butterfly in the Western Hemisphere and also the habitat for the endangered Jamaican Blackbird (Neospar nigerrimus), a refuge for the Jamaican Boa (Epicrates subflavus) and the Jamaican Hutia (Geocapromys brownii). The park was nominated UNESCO World Heritage Site for mixed criteria (cultural and natural) in 2011.

For the preparation of anti-colonial movement in Jamaica this is a reminder to the late 1600s, then African slaves who fled into hiding in the mountains John Crow. After 80 years of war, a peace agreement was made in 1739 between the people living on this island with England.
According to the treaty, above all people who live in the territory of the island near Cuba will be allowed to stay on the land without having to pay taxes on different parts of the Muslim region Cameroon Town Ray Evans.

"Love Is In The Air" was written by George Young and Harry Vanda and made popular by John Paul Young as a disco song. This video has been sharpened 97%, and the color, saturation, and contrast boosted. The audio track has been remastered, though it's better, it's not as good as I would have liked it to sound. Too much noise in the original track. -

This video is a followup to my recent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kApJrVqhcDU This time around I sat on the opposite (right hand side) of the aircraft so I could get an alternative view of approach and landing into Kingston. I'm sorry about the shakiness during the initial view of the aircraft at the start of the video. I haven't used this particular camcorder often, and I may have accidentally switched off image stabilization. British Airways 777 - flight 2262 - full takeoff and climb out from Kingston Jamaica
Though my last video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kApJrVqhcDU has been well received to date, I was disappointed by the audio of my Panasonic Lumix TZ10 compact camera. It does a great job of recording HD video but the audio is simply not up to capturing the nuances of engine startup and the take-off roll. So on my most recent Jamaic trip I took along the heavy artillery :) - a much larger Panasonic HDC-HS300 semi pro camcorder with built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 microphone. It does a fantastic job of reproducing the audio - in particular the deep bass of the engine start. For best results I recommend you use headphones or quality speakers. This flight was flown by aircraft G-VIIP, which is a Boeing 777-236 powered by 2 x General Electric GE90-85B turbofan engines. I flew on the Rolls ... -

This time around I sat on the opposite (right hand side) of the aircraft so I could get an alternative view of approach and landing into Kingston.
I'm sorry about the shakiness during the initial view of the aircraft at the start of the video. I haven't used this particular camcorder often, and I may have accidentally switched off image stabilization.

I did have a couple of additional clips of the aircraft overflying the Turks & Caicos islands and Haiti, however these were spoiled by a large amount of scratches on the aircraft's window, so I did not include them. I also have not included the First Officer's flight update while overflying Haiti as due to a problem with his PA link, his message was largely unintelligible :(
I have included the full pushback. This pushback is probably the longest required at Gatwick as this particular gate is at the very end of the pier.
The video includes the full approach and landing into Norman Manley International Airport. This approach includes a fly past of the runway, followed by a 180 degree turn to line up for final approach.
Unfortunately the skies were slightly overcast as we came into land, so the landscape views are perhaps not as great as they could have been. Still I hope you enjoy.

has been well received to date, I was disappointed by the audio of my Panasonic Lumix TZ10 compact camera. It does a great job of recording HD video but the audio is simply not up to capturing the nuances of engine startup and the take-off roll.
So on my most recent Jamaic trip I took along the heavy artillery :) - a much larger Panasonic HDC-HS300 semi pro camcorder with built-in Dolby Digital 5.1 microphone. It does a fantastic job of reproducing the audio - in particular the deep bass of the engine start. For best results I recommend you use headphones or quality speakers.
This flight was flown by aircraft G-VIIP, which is a Boeing 777-236 powered by 2 x General Electric GE90-85B turbofan engines. I flew on the Rolls Royce powered G-YMMR on the way out -

As BA have relaxed their restrictions on the use of portable electronic equipment (other Airlines please take note ...) I was able to capture the complete pushback, engine start, taxi and takeoff into a fantastic sunset.
The climb-out view of Jamaica over the southeast corner, as seen from the left hand side of the aircraft is simply awesome - beats Barbados I'm afraid! The flight was pretty heavily loaded and the take-off on this occasion seemed particularly powerful.

Here we go again!
We board a flight from Amsterdam and in 9 hours we are in the Caribbean. After a layover of just a couple of hours on Curacao, we fly on to Jamaica. We land in Kingston around 11 am local time. The air is hot, but not too humid.
We have a 3 hours layover, so we decide to get out of the airport and go have lunch in Port Royal, half an hour away on the coast. It's a bit of a ghost-town, once a very rich merchant harbor, destroyed at the end of the seventeenth century by a powerful earthquake. It looks like it never really recovered…
We eat lunch in a small fish-restaurant, famous for its snapper. But I eat jerk chicken because I am picky with my fish, and the jerk-spices here are amazing!
Of course we drink some Red Stripe beers, and Simon and myself decide it's time to find some weed. It does not take long before we hit the jackpot: literally on the side of the local Police station, along the seaside, there are some barracks and shacks; inside a group of Rastas is busy cleaning and chopping weed and rolling it up in small balls, using rolling papers as containers.
We ask if we can buy some, and the guys are thrilled. It's cheap, less than 1 Euro per gram. But it's a bit bitter, very leafy, and we enjoy it just because it's been a while since we smoked in Amsterdam! Some of the Rastas in the back are smoking crack cocaine in a glass pipe, the smell is terribly sour. They ask if we like some, and we politely tell them we are just here for the ganja; they nod, and scream "Jah Rastafari"!
We sit and smoke a joint with them, and chat a bit about the local weed, and the cops. It's incredible that this is all happening next to the Police station.
We leave as soon as the joint is over, and we go back to the restaurant to join the rest of the crew.
It's time to get back to the airport and catch a Jamaican Airlines flight to Montego Bay, where our local contacts are waiting. The flight is really short, under half hour, and we arrive in MoBay before sunset. Bigga, Shanti, Nampo and Taleban are waiting for us and it's great to see them again; Arjan and myself spent some crazy days with these guys not long ago, during our scouting trips on the island.
These guys are a tight crew, and they are going to take care of us during the next days of this filming trip.
Nampo is a older Rasta, wise man, with lots of contacts and very respected.
Taleban, his friend, is a grower and a smuggler, a real pirate and one of the funniest guys we ever had with us during our expeditions.
Bigga is our driver/bodyguard, he's a man of the road and he knows who and what you need to know to keep us safe.
Shanti is a local singer, a reggae artist with an amazing talent and a great personality. I know him since he was 10 years old, back in 1994, when I spent a few weeks near where he lived with his father (the man supplying me with fine herb at the time). It was really special to find Shanti during our scouting trips back in July, he's now a grown up man… and I am getting old! Shanti will come along and make sure the soundtrack of our travels is inspiring and inspired.
We get the cars, two Toyota Fortuner, and we load up the mountain of gear we are carrying. Then we drive down to Negril in the sunset light, and when we arrive it's already dark. We decide to spend the first night at the Blue Cave Castle, a really cozy place on the rocky cliffs of Negril.
It's another true 1994-flashback for me, this is one of the places where I stayed when I was a 20-years-old ganja-traveler, already a Strain Hunter without knowing it…. Of course to make the flashback even more intense the same room where I slept then is available, so I take it.
It still looks the same.
We are tired from the long travel, and we decide to go for some food. Unfortunately the chef is sick, so we decide to find something not too far away. We hit a jerk-chicken stand by the side of the road and we eat like there's no tomorrow.
After a few Red Stripes and a few joints we go back to the hotel, where we smoke some good amount of high-grade weed, and some "gum", the local finger-hash.
The weed is definitely an indica-cross, it tastes sweet and strong, and they say it's from a site not too far from where we are. We make a plan for tomorrow, and we go to sleep. Jamaica is great. It's a true privilege to be here again.

Bigga is our driver/bodyguard, he's a man of the road and he knows who and what you need to know to keep us safe.
Shanti is a local singer, a reggae artist with an amazing talent and a great personality. I know him since he was 10 years old, back in 1994, when I spent a few weeks near where he lived with his father (the man supplying me with fine herb at the time). It was really special to find Shanti during our scouting trips back in July, he's now a grown up man… and I am getting old! Shanti will come along and make sure the soundtrack of our travels is inspiring and inspired.
We get the cars, two Toyota Fortuner, and we load up the mountain of gear we are carrying. Then we drive down to Negril in the sunset light, and when we arrive it's already dark. We decide to spend the first night at the Blue Cave Castle, a really cozy place on the rocky cliffs of Negril.
It's another true 1994-flashback for me, this is one of the places where I stayed when I was a 20-years-old ganja-traveler, already a Strain Hunter without knowing it…. Of course to make the flashback even more intense the same room where I slept then is available, so I take it.
It still looks the same.
We are tired from the long travel, and we decide to go for some food. Unfortunately the chef is sick, so we decide to find something not too far away. We hit a jerk-chicken stand by the side of the road and we eat like there's no tomorrow.
After a few Red Stripes and a few joints we go back to the hotel, where we smoke some good amount of high-grade weed, and some "gum", the local finger-hash.
The weed is definitely an indica-cross, it tastes sweet and strong, and they say it's from a site not too far from where we are. We make a plan for tomorrow, and we go to sleep. Jamaica is great. It's a true privilege to be here again.

We board a flight from Amsterdam and in 9 hours we are in the Caribbean. After a layover of just a couple of hours on Curacao, we fly on to Jamaica. We land in Kingston around 11 am local time. The air is hot, but not too humid.
We have a 3 hours layover, so we decide to get out of the airport and go have lunch in Port Royal, half an hour away on the coast. It's a bit of a ghost-town, once a very rich merchant harbor, destroyed at the end of the seventeenth century by a powerful earthquake. It looks like it never really recovered…
We eat lunch in a small fish-restaurant, famous for its snapper. But I eat jerk chicken because I am picky with my fish, and the jerk-spices here are amazing!
Of course we drink some Red Stripe beers, and Simon and myself decide it's time to find some weed. It does not take long before we hit the jackpot: literally on the side of the local Police station, along the seaside, there are some barracks and shacks; inside a group of Rastas is busy cleaning and chopping weed and rolling it up in small balls, using rolling papers as containers.
We ask if we can buy some, and the guys are thrilled. It's cheap, less than 1 Euro per gram. But it's a bit bitter, very leafy, and we enjoy it just because it's been a while since we smoked in Amsterdam! Some of the Rastas in the back are smoking crack cocaine in a glass pipe, the smell is terribly sour. They ask if we like some, and we politely tell them we are just here for the ganja; they nod, and scream "Jah Rastafari"!
We sit and smoke a joint with them, and chat a bit about the local weed, and the cops. It's incredible that this is all happening next to the Police station.
We leave as soon as the joint is over, and we go back to the restaurant to join the rest of the crew.
It's time to get back to the airport and catch a Jamaican Airlines flight to Montego Bay, where our local contacts are waiting. The flight is really short, under half hour, and we arrive in MoBay before sunset. Bigga, Shanti, Nampo and Taleban are waiting for us and it's great to see them again; Arjan and myself spent some crazy days with these guys not long ago, during our scouting trips on the island.
These guys are a tight crew, and they are going to take care of us during the next days of this filming trip.
Nampo is a older Rasta, wise man, with lots of contacts and very respected.
Taleban, his friend, is a grower and a smuggler, a real pirate and one of the funniest guys we ever had with us during our expeditions.
