Is Gordon Ramsay a Great Chef?

Answer by Jonas Mikka Luster, former cook, jml.is:

Depends how you define “great” and “chef.”

Up front, I believe that he's one of the few genuinely nice, warm, and approachable people in his levels of the industry today. Kitchen lore is full of stories of Gordon Ramsay rescuing someone, quietly helping, or being there when needed.

Is IQ a Good Predictor of Success?

Answer by Peter S. Magnusson, senior vice president, Cloud Development, Oracle; formerly Snapchat, Google, and Virtutech:

As the question is stated, the answer is simply “yes.” If you take a “real” IQ test (see comments below), then the result is a strong statistical predictor of multiple future life outcomes—income, education level, health, even longevity. There are loads of studies that confirm these correlations. So in that sense, it “predicts” your future “success.” However—and it's a big however—be careful what inferences you draw from this answer.

What Are the Most Underrated Female Rock Bands?

Answer by Julie Anne Exter, board-certified music therapist, writer of mediocre songs:

This is a deceptively complicated question. The short answer is actually all of them.

I happen to be a female rock musician, and rock music is still very much a boys' club in terms of respect for musicianship and songwriting skills. The first hurdle that women in rock music have to overcome is the fact that whatever music they're making is forever tied to their sexuality and femaleness, like it or not. If you're playing a guitar and you happen to own boobs, I'm embarrassed for humankind to report that your guitar-playing is not the first thing lots of people notice. Right, right, #notallmen. Still. A woman can have crazy musical chops and still be shelved in this day and age as “pretty good, for a girl.” Does that sound crazy? I'm the drummer in an all-girl rock band, and a well-meaning (male) audience member came up to me after our lastest gig and, thinking he was paying me a compliment, said those words verbatim. I didn't know whether to be embarrassed for him or indignant for myself.

How Do Police Sketch Artists Accurately Depict Perpetrators?

Answer by Michelle Victor, desktop support technician:

When I was a victim of an armed robbery, I was eager to get this violent criminal off the streets. Unfortunately, the Bay Area city in which this occurred did not employ a composite sketch artist, and my case was not considered high-profile enough to warrant the investigator traveling an hour to another city with me to do the drawing. This was not satisfactory. I began working with a private investigator to help find the attacker and put him behind bars where he belongs.

What’s It Like to Be a Colorblind Designer?

Answer by Abhinav Sharma, product designer:

Colorblindness is really hard to describe if you don't have it. My closest experience to not being colorblind is wearing EnChroma glasses, through which I can distinguish between green and brown, as well as see red as a much stronger color than I do otherwise. It was while wearing those that I first understood why a red dress is such a powerful image. My reaction to most of the spectrum, with the exception of red, green, and brown, is like anyone else's.

What Did Christopher Nolan Get Wrong in His Batman Films?

Answer by Mark Hughes, screenwriter, film critic at Forbes:

As someone who loved Christopher Nolan's Batman films and considers them to still be the best superhero films of all time (I personally rank them in the Nos. 1, 2, and 3 spots on my list of the greatest superhero movies), there isn't much about the films that I dislike. However, that doesn't mean there aren't things in the films that I feel were ultimately either less ideal characterizations or depictions or that might not have worked quite as well as some other choice could have possibly worked instead. But I really want to stress that as of today, these films are “my” Batman; they are the closest thing I've ever seen to my ideal perfect approach to bringing Batman to life in live-action cinema, and Batman Begins is probably the single best Batman story ever told in any medium, as far as I'm concerned.

Answer by Barack Obama, 44th president of the United States:

What’s the Difference Between General Practice Physicians and Specialists?

Answer by Ben Howell, general practitioner, ex-R.N.:

The easiest way to understand the differences between the various specialties in medicine is to identify the health questions they would answer with: “Dunno. That's not my job.”

Internal medicine and general practice are simply two of the many different types of medical colleges. Other colleges include surgery, anesthetics, dermatology, intensive care, psychiatry, ophthalmology, public health, emergency medicine, radiology, pathology, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics.
